NEW DELHI: A top-level Israeli military delegation will be in India next week on a hush-hush visit to discuss counter-terrorism and anti-infiltration strategies in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources said the delegation, to be led by Israeli deputy chief of general staff, Major General Moshe Kaplinsky, will be visiting some places in J&K, including the 16 Corps headquarters in Nagrota, which is responsible for guarding the line of control south of the Pir Panjal range.
The Israeli visit comes at a time when the LoC has suddenly become hot with terrorists making concerted efforts to sneak into India from across the border. Official Army figures show a two to three-fold jump in infiltration in April and May this year compared with the same period in 2005 and 2006.
“In May alone, 11 terrorists were killed in seven infiltration bids foiled by our soldiers along LoC. But many crossings go undetected,” said an officer.
Army chief General J J Singh himself said on Wednesday that there were reports to show that ‘‘some elements’’ of Pakistan Army and ISI were giving “support” to infiltrating terrorists.

Even today, the israelis have a very interesting relationship with them and that is to say that malaysia, indonesia usually mind their own business [compared to Pakistan].

This is how mushy keeps radicals under control (by letting them do whatever they want when it comes to kashmir, so that they dont question his authority as a president very much). Recently he even offered to withdraw troops from LOC (to divert attention from indias accusation of increased infiltration and also to show to the outside world how peaceful he is). Eventually, he wants radicals to keep liking him/rather not questioning him on the home turf.

Israel needed friends in the 1960's before it had relations with Egypt or Jordan. The Arabs were gearing for war with Israel and Israel needed to increase its strategic alliances and Singapore in the 1960's offered such a chance.

Pakistan doesn't need to officially recognize Israel. We already have had secret relations with them for over 50 years. That's good enough.

I still don't see why we need official relations when everyone in the world knows that Pakistan deals with Israel from time to time.

thats because Pakistan is seen as an extremist state
recognizing Israel will remove that label from Pakistan and Pakistan will be seen as a progressive moderate Islamic Country on the lines of Turkey and thus it will be economically beneficial for Pakistan

Ah, I don't think its that simple. Pakistan may be seen as an extremist state, but I think that has to do with our support for the Taliban, our ISI connenctions with al-Qaeda, and the fact that our country's political establishment has no control over its own capital of Islamabad and we actually yield to idiots like those in Lal Masjid. (Guess we can't make fun of Karzai anymore, :( )
Add in women being gang raped by Mullahs as well.
Recognizing Israel officially will not change all of that, or the world's perception about Pakistan.
Furthermore Turkey is not Islamic, it is extremely secular to an oppressive point, so much so, that the EU even has reservations on Turkey's joining the EU.
