by not officially recognizing it, the Pakistani leadership keeps it so called "extremist" populace happy and by secretly meeting with Israel from time to time, it assures Israel and the rest of the world that Pakistan will not do anything to undermine Israel.

How is that a contradiction?
Israel needed friends in the 1960's before it had relations with Egypt or Jordan. The Arabs were gearing for war with Israel and Israel needed to increase its strategic alliances and Singapore in the 1960's offered such a chance.
What could Singapore offer when it isn't even in the same vicinity as Israel? I could see why Israel would court Turkey [and even Iran during Shah times] to counter arabs..

That is the same route taken by India until recently mercenary [even now it is hush-hush lol] so what do you say now?
I say we keep the relationship as it is. We don't need to get involved too much with either of the two warring sides. As it is said, apne paon chadar dekh kar phelao?

It's not hush-hush at all. India can afford to recognize Israel because it has control over its Muslim population. I agree that we should keep the relationship as is, and not get too involved with either side.

That is because Singapore was a vital trade conduit in which Israel received goods from the Eastern half of the world.
If Singapore gave into pressure from its muslim neighbours to shut off trade to Israel, it would have been a disaster for Israel.
By helping Singapore build up its military it guaranteed that trade and shipping of goods from the eastern half of the world will continue.
And besides, Israel went to war in 1967 due to Egypt shutting off the Straits in the Red Sea which was Israel's only link to the eastern half of the world.

Why would Singapore [a british colonial outpost] shut off the straits? Singapore has nothing to do with malays or any political islamic alliance. Even indonesia and malaysia never have shut off the strait in support of arabs.

^^ Singapore has no islamic alliance but all of its neighbors are muslims. They could pressure Singapore into isolating Israel.
Back in the 1960's this was a very real possibility due to Egypt doing the same to Israel via the Suez Canal

another reason why pakistan should recognize Israel and thus end this severe pro-India tilt by Israel
Israel can marry the Indians if the like them so much... Pakistan on its part should have nothing to do with them.
