KARACHI: Pakistan is the major mover in the final FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking of 2002, climbing three ladders to get all-time the best 178th rank in the world and 37th spot in Asia.

According to the latest FIFA Ranking, issued from Zurich, Switzerland, Pakistan, which had slumped the lowest 191st position earlier last year, finished with an encouraging slot in the end of year 2002.

“It’s really a moment of delight for us that our country jumped three ladders at the end of this year to record the most improving position so far in world and in Asia as well,” informed Agha Liaquat Ali, Secretary General, Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) from Quetta on Thursday.

He said that their efforts to raise the standard of soccer and keep it out of doldrums had started meeting with success.

“This has happened first time in our history that our football is keeping on improving in world and Asian rankings and I hope we’ll continue to progress,” he commented.

However, it would be injustice if one does not praise the sincere efforts, made by foreign coach John Layton of England, who turned the tide in favour of Pakistan football after getting three junior teams qualified for Asian final rounds and securing first ever point in World Cup 2002 qualifying rounds.

He has been released by the PFF after the suspension of AFC aid programme. Let’s see what steps would the PFF hierarchy take to keep on lightening the lantern, illuminated by the foreigner. As per the FIFA Ranking, Pakistan is above 26 countries amongst 203 FIFA members.

:rotfl: good work PFF :k:
looks like we might be able to qualify for the WC after all
in the year 3030 :hehe:

Yes Brazil,

Just wait and watch, we're coming!

We’re gonna be some serious World Cup Contenders now! :hehe:

In 3030…hahahahaha…I think thats toooo soon Saby  :hehe:

Yes Pakistan would have been actually higher if had not been for cricket. When it comes time for World Cup football in Pakistan everyone forgets about cricket and kids all over the country play football on street but soon as the WC is over they go back to their normal routine of playing cricket. Pakistan sports committee needs to keep kids playing football the whole year around not just for 2 months.

If small third world countries like Senegal can qualify for WC so can Pakistan, but we need more commitment from the players and the officials.

:k: cool bhaee

:hehe: @ watch out Brazil

wah kis scene ho ga Razzaq Baloch (or whatever) face to face with Ronaldo. Abdul Ghafoor Chema tackling Revaldo

"Slow And Steady Win's The Race" lets just keep our spirits high.

Football isn't that easy game. it needs a lot of patience which is something most of the Pakistanis lack, besides cricket is more popular among kids in Pakistan.

Some1: no one can excel everything.

Pakistan moves further up in FIFA and Asia Rankin’.

Rock on! :k:

Pakistan’s football ranking gets better

KARACHI: Pakistan, who have made a visible improvement at the international level since December 2002, jumped seven more steps to get the 164th position in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Football Rankings. :k: :k:

According to the rankings issued from Zurich, Switzerland, **Pakistan also improved their rating amongst Asian countries and climbed to the 33rd spot as compared to the previous 40th position. ** :k: :k: This upward trend is the result of their consistent performances at international level as the country produced excellent results in the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Cup Championship held in Dhaka three months ago and finished fourth, while their recent success came against Macao when they won 2-0 in the Asian Cup pre-qualifying rounds Group E encounter in Singapore.

For Pakistan, their latest ranking in the world and Asia is their best since the country slumped to the 194th spot two years ago and three stairs up among 44 members of Asia.

The ranking sees Spain (2nd, up by 1) outgun France (3rd, down 1) and trail world-beaters Brazil, whose substantial lead shows no signs of subsiding. Changes elsewhere in the top-50 are slight.

Afghanistan (198, up 5) make gains to justify their inclusion in the ranking since their re-emergence on the international scene in January this year in the SAFF Cup. Their 2-1 victory over Kyrgyzstan on March 16 constitutes their first international win since they rejoined the fold. Following are the world’s top-10 football nations:

Football requires LOTS and LOTS of hard work. Honestly, how many of us ever played football in Pakistan?. The answer is overwhelmingly NONE. It's just not Pakistan's cup of tea.

Idiot.

That's somethin' you should be proud of. Without much sponorship and support, Pakistan Football team able to moved up in FIFA and Asia rankin'. Why? 'Cause they played hard!

junkman, I hear you.......

Pakistan isn't good at soccer for the simple reason.......... lack of talent, passion and like every other sport in pakistan, coaching (ofcourse)
Though we are slooooooooooooooowly improving, that's nothin to be happy abt. we didn't even win in SAARC. and we r not the only one who are improving. the rest of the countries aren't sleeping. i doubt that we'll ever make it to the WC.

but then again, there's always a ray of hope :)

Good job. They might not make it to the world cup, but they they will gain confidence and support with each win.
Pak is at 164th and India at 123rd.
