Pakistan retain 160th FIFA ranking
KARACHI: Pakistan, who retained the satisfactory 160th slot in the latest FIFA World Ranking, have bright chances to further improve the world as well as in Asia rankings after participating in the World Cup pre-preliminary rounds matches against Kyrgyztan.
According to the world ranking, received from Zurich-based FIFA, the world soccer governing body, on Thursday, **Pakistan are the joint-holders of 160th position with Antigua and Chinese Taipei and moved 18 ladders since they were finished at 178th place till December 2002.
Pakistan senior team is to play two home and away matches against Kyrgyzstan for the first phase of FIFA World Cup 2006 preliminary rounds on Nov 29 and Dec 3 at Karachi and Bishkek respectively.**
As per the formula, FIFA World Ranking evaluates all matches played by senior national teams, which include World Cup final matches, World Cup preliminary matches, continental championship, preliminary matches and friendly matches between two countries.
Meanwhile, top trio Brazil, France and Spain maintained their domination while Argentina trailed thirty full points behind third-placed Spain. The big winners over the past few weeks were Asian teams, making their mark in the qualifying rounds of the 2004 Asian Cup in China. The top ten countries are Brazil, France, Spain, Argentina, Netherlands, England, Germany, Italy, Mexico and Turkey.
