if they are coming over for dinner then why not? did your mother in law make food and send it over to your house if yes then maybe it's a trend they have at home just send some food over, i do not see the big deal to it.

we don't know that though.. maybe he just wants the girl to impress the mother in law before she gets married into the house, there could be so much more to it then just the guy demanding food from her..

i think that's reasonable i always cook something myself or buy something when i go to someones house for lunch or dinner it's like saying 'thank you' for having us.

Hmm, I don't see it as a big deal. You must have seen your mom (as a guest) bring a dish to the host's place....perhaps as part of a potluck gathering or maybe as a kind gesture to show appreciation for hospitality. Have some fun with this, don't overanalye it.

That's a weird request. What are his reasons for wanting you to cook for them? Does he want you to impress them, so they say good stuff about you? Either way, if you aren't comfortable with cooking for them, then don't. It's not the end of the world.
