I agree. To keep the spark going you have to have more than just the cards, chocolates and candlelight dinners. I think practical love is the one that should be celebrated on V day and every other day. Doing something for someone they don’t expect. Trying to do something you’re not good at but that the other person will appreciate.
OP, if i was you I would say it is easy to say “I love you” to someone but harder to show it through actions and he should show his love is not typical love. He can show his love by helping you out or your family out when they least expect it. Calling you and talking to your parents, seeing how they are, enquiring about your siblings. If your family needs extra hands or help for some event or activity he can offer. If one of your siblings needs help with something and he has the knowledge to help he can offer to help.
Sometimes spontaneous hallmark romance is also good to have :)*
