Fair & Lovely or bleach to lighten your complexion?
Have you seen those ridiculous ads on TV? I had a friend over for eid, and they were showing it on one of the many indian/pakistani/desi channels my mom watches all the friggin’ time.
The ad was about a girl who wanted to be a sports commentator but couldnt get an interview cuz she was dark. But thanks to the magical elixir called “fair and lovely,” she finally got the job. Everyone was proud of sonu, cuz now she was white..
Afterall, you cannot be lovely if you are not fair, right?
I wonder how many young girls’ self esteems have been demolished by ads like these?
Actually a friend of mine once gave me a cream she was using. She wasnlt even dark but she just wanted to be snow white or something and the cream did wonders for her so she gave me a tub too. Now i used it for a week and a couple of ppl told me i was lookign whiter so i stopped using it cos i thoguth it would be very embarassing to say that it was the result of some cream and there could be no other possible explanation to it. So I quit. Besides I dont really really need it either, i have quit a nice complexion :halo:
It wasnt F&L though, it was some ameircan cream and this was when I was in pakistan and now that i am in america i do not even know what cream it was. These other girls n college used to use some cream called archies which looked orangish on their skin. This one girl in my class had it on 24/7 and i know 24/7 cos she lived in boarding school for some time too. Whenever anyone asked her what she had on her face all the time she would alwyas say, nothing at all by the time we graduated her face was probably 4-5 shades lighter but her hands
Actually yeah I use fair and lovely, after washing my face at night (in teh daytime I use Dove facial moisturizer), but only coz of the smell, I think my skin color/texture is fine (and lets hope it stays that way :halo: )… the khushboo reminds me of Pak
my grandma used tibet snow on her hands and feet every night and told me to use it too.
i never did since i hated the smell…
i used F&L for a while in college in karachi when we moved there. i thought its a kind of a sun protection. but after a while my whole face broke out in pimples that went away after like 4 months!
FF, so wait, you are saying that these things actually work?
What was the name of the cream that you used. I think you know, but you wouldn't share with us. You dont want us to be light-complexioned too?
they do usually work but not without side effects. I heard archies would make ur skin all blotchy if u spent time in the sun after using it, some others make ur skin even worse then it originally may have been if u quit using them.
There was this one girl in my sisters class who was pitch black, really bad polish hui hui type dark and after one fine summer vacation the girl returned to college and she was as fair as could be! No I don;t know the name to that one either, i dont think my sister ever asked. I can try to find out the name of the one my friend used if u really really want to know. it was a white plastic little tub with red/orange writing on it.
i use lemon juice with besan and sandalwood powder and it does wonders for my skin. Make sure you use honey so the acidity in the lemon juice wont sting your face.
tibet snow is one of the oldest fairness creams used in pakistan. my grandma tells me that when she was younger, every other woman used the cream but later on people started making fun of those using it. and whats wrong with a granny taking care of her hands and feet?
