Who are the female role models that you look up to ?
Some of mine are:
Mukhtaran Mai: A strong woman that fought the unfair hudood and panchayat system in her village and is a source of courage for oppressed women all over the world. She signifies that all you need to do to make a difference is take a step and not back down from what you believe is right.
Mother Teresa: Depended on no one (started helping the poorest in calcutta without any funding) and now her missionaries are spread all over the world running huge relief efforts. won the nobel peace prize as well as many other awards for her work.
Bilquis Edhi: Humanitarian and philanthropist. Runs the Bilquis Edhi Foundation catering mainly to women and children. Raises orphans and gets girls married.
Margaret Sanger: The woman that legalized birth control.
nia aunty, big difference between birth control and abortions.
my tiny list:
PT Usha : greatest athelete, male or female, india's ever seen. piled on medals at several asian games meets, lost an olympic bronze by a 100th of a second, mom.
Anju George : long jump and triple jump athelete, only indian to have won medals at world championships in atheletics.
Kiran Bedi: police officer who kicked some serious currupt butt.
Noor: Martha Stewart? Why?
i like strong women who don't give a damn about jealous (male) views, and can bounce back from any situation
margaret thatcher for same reason, she had opinions and defended them, sha may not have been right all the time, but she did her job nicely, she made mistakes like everyone
i do not favor those "icons" to me a role model is not an idol, a superwoman without (admitted) flaws...
to me a role model is a human who can admit mistakes and move on, and stay strong on opinions under critics
my role models are female politicians and business women, who proves that women have brain, not just look

gotta admit though...the woman DOES have a huge following. what a rebound!
i think we need some butt kickers in the police. i especially admire women that serve in the police in the USA....working shoulder to shoulder with the men....whereas in pakistan they work with women as a separate entity.
