Can anyone think of the names of any female prophets? Religious/spiritual literature usually tends to portray “respected” women as goddesses, saints and/or scholars etc. But I have yet to come upon any religion/philosophy that was actually founded by (and came to light because of) a girl/woman. Is this because there never have been any female prophets OR have there been some, but male prophets have been emphasized more (for whatever reason)? Discuss!

I don’t think Islam has any female prophets. I might be wrong though. Christians have a few I think ..

all Religions had Male Prophets (Islam, christanity, jews e.t.c). And Christanity has only one Prophet and his name is Jesis Or Essa (A.S)

i am talking from Islamic angle. Acording to ISLAM, there was no female Prophet in CHRISTANITY AND JEWISH religion. Thousand yearz back, these religions were a part of Islam, but their teaching expired later. Acording to QURRAN, there is no female Prophet in any Alhami Religion. Even Mariam (A.S) was not a Prophet. She was Pious and the Mother of Prophet Jesis or ESAA (A.S)

I know that there are many female saints in Christianity, but have never heard of female prophets.

there is no mention of any female prophets in Qur'aan or aHaadees. however, there was one woman who falsely claimed prophet-hood right after the passing of our Nabi-e-Kareem [saws] and she was duly killed.

Scholars have debated this thing and infact certain scholars were of this opinion as well.

Moulana hifz ur rehman was a big scholar from deobandi intrepretation of hanafi fiqh.

i think the reason for not having a female prophets is obvious...those reasons being:
-parda
-going out on preaching missions for long period of time
-pregnancies and children
-torture by opponents
-future husband may come in the way for propagation of the message
etc

most of the "founder" of religion, stayed on the brink of execution all their life, even being very talented individuals , were striped off their potential good lives
(by the message they wanted to deliverer). Lived poorest of the lives.

Well looking kpersad's comment give impression that, that prophet hood is some kind of crown to wear. Some kingdom to enjoy....
As a matter of fact...smartest people with best character were chose to God's messenger,
then they were put through some of the toughest path imaginable.
They suffered a great deal.
Look on the hardships of:
ayub(job)
essa(jeus)
yahya(john)
musa(moses)
muhammad
PBU them all.
Such all life long ordeal, hardships torture by the most powerful in society/of-time.
I guess God did not want women to suffer through it.
My fav example is,* fira'aon* most powerful king looking for mosses, and mosses is asked to go TO him, in his kingdom, in his palace and give him messages.
And the concerns of mosses..etc...
i think women were not put it in this ordeal. You need to look at the struggle and environment around prophets life.

No she was not. She had a brief 3 day marriage with another 'kazzab' Musaylimah , and then was ditched with style. She went back with her limited number of blind foolish followers to where she came from, thinking she will get rewards for her new allegiance... but in the next few days saw Musaylimah killed by the hands of Wahshi in the battle of yamama. She then had no choice so eventually she came back to being a normal remorseful lady.

Why don't men commit sati? Why do religions only prescribe corporal punishments for women only? Are men perfect? Why do women have to cover up? Why can't a woman have multiple husbands simultaneously? Why honor killing of women, and not men?
P.S: Yes all religions were created! As for whole armies and intellectual force, please just take a look at the wars happening in the middle east. All over the same mythology....
