Female manager?

Is it hard to work in a team that is being managed by a female? are male managers easier to work with? Do you hold such preference?

I personally feel its easier to work with men managers then female ones. But that could very well be my personal experience.

Please share your thoughts.

Re: Female manager?

What were the differences you felt between male and female manager (style of management, supervision, etc)?

Re: Female manager?

nope...female bosses are as good as male bosses...i always had a female supervisor ever since i came to Canada and i think she is great and she is easier to deal with. men are bossy, i believe.

Re: Female manager?

Female mangers are Chir-chaari and too demanding as compared to male mangers.

Re: Female manager?

Mahool, In three cases , the style of management. Too much focus on tiny things like time keeping, attitude etc asking for pointless detailed reports , less of problem solving more of detailed analyzing , a bit too strong a reaction to failure etc

On the contrary, men managers seemed a lot more laid back and easy going in terms of day to day management. They seemed to be more focused on the end result and wouldnt hold warrants for the day to day ups and downs .

I myself have managed difficult teams and am wondering now if I was the same and somehow I feel my mood changes did have an impact on my decisions in the team. In my first ever management training , they did identify that I was looking at the detailed picture as well rather then being focused on the bigger picture and letting go of the useless knick knac . i had to make improvements in this area through conscious effort

Re: Female manager?

Women are naturally detail oriented as compared to men. You are right... I myself look bigger picture and end result rather than execution of task and process.

Re: Female manager?

How do you get the end result without a process in place. Managers can't simply stick their head in the sand. Got to pay some attention to details. Depends on how high up one is in the chain of command.

Not sure there r differences between men and women managers.

Re: Female manager?

With the WC going on I read it as Football Manager :hehe:

Re: Female manager?

LOL Shak, the football fever is on !

Re: Female manager?

What is WC? Women's Championship?

Re: Female manager?

I noticed glass ceiling because of gender bias (probably because of the same stereotype of the HR department that female managers are hard to work with). If I were to make any generalization in terms of good vs bad managers, it will come down to how good of training the individual received in their related field and specifically as a manager if the person has some mentor.

I report to a male manager. he's very keen on timing and schedules and all. Just like any manager would be. Male or female.

Im a teamlead myself for an all male team though :/

Re: Female manager?

I dont know, I cant seem to put my finger on it. But the last time I was job hunting , I was trying to keep away from a female manager , maybe if was coz of my own personal experiences . I know for a fact that a lot of extremely successful ladies are doing a brilliant job in known companies around the world. I just feel that both genders have very distinct management style which doesnt at all relate to their achievements in life , but generally speaking it has an impact on the team .

Re: Female manager?

Women can be b1tch ¥ to work with.
Men are rather disorganized.
So both have some pros and cons.

Re: Female manager?

I've had both genders as managers. Not being sexist but I just get on easier with the male managers. More relaxed, less uptight. The female managers have always wanted you to go "above and beyond" your job description. One of my last managers was female, she started shifting her work onto us, which when she approached me I refused and asked her to show me where it states in my contract the work she is asking of me. Needless to say she was fired a few weeks later for fraud :)

Female interviewers are the worst. It's like the expect you to get on your knees and beg for a job. Unfortunately for them, I don't beg and I don't kneel.

Re: Female manager?

If you (being a female) actually don't fit 'the profile' it takes extra efforts to first prove yourself against the stereotype before proving your real work related skills.

Re: Female manager?

Some think they don't fit the bill beause women are generally more mellow in nature, and the position requires a more authoritative assertive persona. Not my views.

Re: Female manager?

I have experienced of female bosses...former manager was as you explained

but the last one i had was really nice indeed she was really supportive and just like a friend...!!depends on nature nothing else..i heard there are male bosses make job miserable...as well..

Re: Female manager?

I had 2 female managers. The first one was the boss from hell, very catty and *****y. The other one was nice. I agree that a lot of female bosses can be very aggressive.

Re: Female manager?

OOooOooo this should be fun.

First job in college--female manager, then male manager. No issues with either one, but then it wasn't really a hard job at all.

Call center job--male manager. No issues. again, not a career job, just a timepass job, so hard to mess it up.

Job after that--female manager then male manager. Both were bad in their own way. The female was friendly to your face but ready to throw you under the bus. The male had a horrible temper and attitude, yelled a lot.

Volunteer "job"--small nonprofit organization at 2 different sites, 2 males and 1 female. No issue with anyone but it was also volunteer/part time.

Job after that--female manager. Started out great, but towards the end of my contract she completely stopped speaking to me. Very frustrating and unprofessional behavior.

a temp job in between the "real" jobs--female co owner of the company. Nice, but a little crazy. If circumstances were different (stability, consistency, the actual work itself), I think I'd have enjoyed working with her.

another temp job--owner of the company, whom I reported to, was a female. Nice to work with and I liked her. The other person I was working with OTOH.....very nasty.

Next job--male manager. He was pretty awesome, still miss him.

Current job--the owner of the company. He's OK except for when he's pretty volatile, you never know when he's gonna explode or be nice.

So.....I honestly cant' say if a male or female is better. I feel like the "bad" female bosses would be very passive aggressive, be nice to your face but then stab you in the back, whiel the "bad" male bosses even if rude or mean, were up front about problem or issues.
