is there any basis of female circumcision in Islam? I’ve read countless articles that it’s strictly a cultural practice among Africans and Middle Easterners mistaken for religion (much like the honor killings in South Asia and the Middle East), but then I also heard it’s sunnah to do that…any replies wud be appreciated, thanks
Its a cultural --- not a religious practice.
^ Thats correct.

I would like to know more about female circumcision in Islam. I have read the ahadith where the Prophet told a woman how to perform it. I would like to know if it is optional or obligatory, and - if it is obligatory - whether there is a certain way to do it (what part should be cut?).
Answer :
Praise be to Allah.
Ibn Qudamah (may Allah have mercy on him) said, in his book al-Mughni: "Circumcision is obligatory for men, and it is an honour for women, but it is not obligatory for them. This is the opinion of many scholars. (Imam) Ahmad said: For men it is more strictly required, but for women it is less strictly required." (al-Mughni 1/70).
Circumcision of the female consists of the removal of a part of the clitoris, which is situated above the opening of the urethra. The Sunnah is not to remove all of it, but only a part. (al-Mawsu‘ah al-Fiqhiyyah 19/28).
In this matter, it is wise to follow the interests of the female: if the clitoris is large, then part of it should be removed, otherwise it should be left alone. This size of the clitoris will vary from woman to woman, and there may be differences between those from hot climates and those from cold climates.
A hadith on the topic of female circumcision has been attributed to the Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon Him), according to which he said: "Circumcision is a Sunnah for men, and an honour for women," but there is some debate as to the authenticity of this hadith. See Silsilah al-Ahadith al-Da‘ifah by al-Albani, no. 1935.
How circumcision is to be performed is mentioned in the hadith narrated by Umm ‘Atiyah, may Allah be pleased with her, according to which a woman used to perform circumcisions in Madinah. The Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon Him) told her: "Do not abuse (i.e. do not go to extremes in circumcising); that is better for the woman and more liked by her husband." (Reported by Abu Dawud in al-Sunan, Kitab al-Adab; he said this hadith is da‘if).
The scholars’ opinions cited above should be sufficient explanation. And Allah knows best.

yes i am
No wonder we see people wishing all the bad things to muslims and degrading Islam.... cz we have people like him who actually think these kinds of BARBARIC acts may have some origin in Islam.
I cant believe this much extent of jahliyat prevails among "muslims" even on GS.
The spread of these kinds of psychopathic bullsh!t and naming it "AHADEES" is what driving NORMAL muslims away from trusting even the authenticated ahadees.
I do not understand how in the name of God we muslims tolerate this kind of sick sh!t posted on GS??? No one to question???
I swear we need some religious education here. Ban these mullahs and their sickening opinions and beliefs.
SICKENING JUST SICKENING and then they wonder why people think ISLAM is a CULT religion.
F*CK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm presuming al Albani concluded that it is not authentic given that the reference is to the collection of books in which he analyses weak hadith

"he said this hadith is da‘if"... meaning he concluded it is a weak report... not sure what other hadith scholars said
A more sound report according to hadith science is the one in Sahih Muslim (3/684) containing the words, "and the circumcised parts touch each other," understood to mean the male and female circumcised organs, but few scholars have understood this to indicate any kind of obligation for a woman to be circumcised.
Attia's earlier description doesn't appear to refer to female circumcision...

THERE IS NO SUCH BARBARIC PRACTICE ENDORSED BY ISLAM
^ Qouted hadiths are weak and unauthenticated
through Quran aur Hadiths. Naozbillah for attributing such a practice to Din and sunnah.
Though its a good example of how Islam and It's cultural values are being degraded systamatically and shall continue to be bombarded with facination and elusions.

Before getting you brains popout of your watermelon, read this again, and try to figure out what it really means. It means that Circumcision is a Sunnah for men (actually it is Sunate-Ibrahimi) and it is an honor for women (that their men are circumsized). Nowhere this Hadis tells women to go and get circumsized. No woman in Prophet Mohammad’s family was circumsized. Only a Jahil idiot will think that it does.

Firstly female circumcision is not required it is only preferred.
There are different types of female circumcision and Islam condemned the barbaric types, these may still be practiced by some Muslims in Africa/Middle East in the name of Islam but they are not Islamic, we learn from Traditions that our Prophet (salallahu alayhe wassallam) did not approve of them.
The female circumcision, which Islam condones, is where the prepuce/hood of the clitoris is cut off which is exactly the same as cutting of our foreskins/hood of the penis (male circumcision).
There are a lot of people who would be against male circumcision too and think it to be unnecessary and barbaric but we know it’s benefits and it’s a part of our religion so we here and we obey.
