Female genital cutting (FGC), also known as female genital mutilation (FGM), female circumcision or female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C), refers to "all procedures involving partial or total removal of the external female genitilia or other injury to the female genital organs whether for cultural, religious or other non-therapeutic reasons. The term is almost exclusively used to describe tradition, cultural, and religious procedures
i would like to hear and share your views although it is not practiced in the pakistanis but it exists and practiced in many muslim and non muslim countries
I believe that its done in the African countries more and mostly due to cultural reasons, however its also done on religious basis but on a very low scale.
This ill practice is still carried out in Egypt and Sudan. Main purpose is that girls should not have sexual feelings so their sensory part is removed.
I don't know how would they cope with G-Spot or the inner desires!
ironically, a few days ago i was looking through some old uni papers of mine and came across a paper I did on this very same topic which i entitled “sanctioned violence against women”. I had to do a 15 minute presentation on this in front of a class of 200.
anyway that’s besides the point…it’s a cruel cruel world we live in.
people just dont know better.
This horrific practice is common among the 'Nilotic' cultures: in Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, and other nearby countries----and in every one of these countries, every religious community, whether Muslim, Christian, or Jewish, claims that it has a religious basis. Another example of people not being able to separate cultural norms from religious requirements.
I used to know a girl whose mom was Egyptian; her dad was Palestinian. She got pregnant out of wedlock, and when her parents found out her dad chased her with a knife to try and kill her, and her mother screamed that she should have had her cut when she was a child in Egypt.
That's right, Spock, and it's also practiced in some remote areas further west---I have heard of it being done in West and North Africa as well. I wonder if it was an indigenous practice or if it was spread there by some early Muslims who believed it was part of Islam?

Muslims never believed in female genital mutilation. It is an African practice and predate Islam and even Christianity.
I understand the practice itself predates the religions, however, members of these religions often believe it is part of their religion----including Muslims. Especially where illiteracy is an issue Muslims often believe there are verses in the Quran, hadith, etc., sanctioning the practice (just as Christians believe it's found in the Bible, etc.) My guess is that the problem is compounded in cultures where Arabic is not the common language so even with memorization of Quran people often have incorrect interpretations or understandings.
It is a sick, shocking cultural practice that many people do and believe that it is what their religion asks!
Over 100 million women have had it done worldwide, 2 million get it done every year and it kills thousands of women every year as a result of septicemia, shock, haemorraging etc. Girls as young as 3 years old get it done! Anaesthesia is rarely used! Makes me cringe at that thought! If only there was some way to ban it!
Some say this ensures that a wife-to-be is faithful to her future husband. Some ppl' consider girls ineligible for marriage if they have not been circumcised. It is an oppression of women!
well i think it shouldnt be allowed in any case but it is happening in egypt sudan somalia moroco etc. even in uk there has been few cases.
main reason to start these topics is to bring these to light to stop happening i didnt realise how people are narrow minded to face the reality
Please pardon my naiveté and enlighten me , how is this discussion on Pakistani Boards going to help in stoping this from happening ? You yourself said that it does not happen in Pakistan.
We are not America, Europe , who can exert pressure on the government of those countries where it happens to stop it from happening.
