Re: Budget 2013

What different budget would have given by PTI for this unfortunate bankrupt country where from fakir, to chabrhi wala, to laborer to shop keeper, to safaee wala, to chaprasi, to taxi wala to rikshaw wala to truck wala to bus wala to police wala, to lower category government officials to bureaucrat to military official to judge to politician to businessman to etc to etc are all dishonest in their dealings.:)

Re: Budget 2013

5% decrease in corporate tax.
how useful this is to the local businessmen or friends of house of sharif?

Re: Budget 2013

Actually its a gradual decrease by 1% for each year (i.e. over the period of 5 years). For this year, it has been decreased from 35% to 34% for all companies except Banks.

Effectively, its not 1% decrease, as increase in Sales Tax rates by 1% will counter this deduction to great extent :bummer:

Re: Budget 2013

^^Thanks.

Re: Budget 2013

There was a symbolic gesture required. Cant believe I am saying that but PPP managed to do that almsot every year. If there was no money to do it then why make tall claims in manifestos? counter argument would be that they had no money but why fool people to get votes? Did they not know that 'khazana khaali hai'?

PMLN has won with a huge mandate. They have had votes from all corners of society. Why not increase tax base? They made such tall claims of tax reforms and what not? Why could they not touch the untouchables 'realtors, agricultures and businessmen'? They will NOT be affected with this budget. Yes they have conveniently made agriculture a provincial subject. Majority of our parliamentarians do not have to pay taxes because their income rely on untaxable incomes. And PMLN has ensured that it stayed the same. No wonder traders and business community love PMLN because they are the least affected from this budget. KSE increased by few hundreds points yesterday because our elite celebrated. Better enforcement will happen only with salaried individuals. No wonder our tax to gdp ratio stays at the lowest and I expect that to continue.

Now what was the need to increase RGST? when all over the world it is being reduced, we are increasing it. Yes major tax collection spree is required but why not increase the tax base? THIS was the time to do so. They have the mandate, numbers, but unfortunately NO political will to do so. :)

Yep. This is one great step. But why were there 120 billions rupees allocated for 'special initiatives'? Isn't it another name for discretionary funds? I expect more gimmickry from PMLN when going gets tough as time passes.

Excuse me brother if I dont share your 'excellent budget' sentiments. This is a much feared oft-repeated elitist budget that has spared our 'poor' elite from taxes and hampered our progress. Yes, tightening of belts was needed and thats what happened but not JUST to salaried class and the genuine poor class. This is 2013 & not 1997. MNS & Ishaq dar better come out and smell that same tax regime is NOT gonna work for Roshan Pakistan. You know even poor would have not complained this much if PMLN had the guts to increase either tax net or more direct taxes spread all across the population.

Re: Budget 2013

Some steps are nice and must be appreciated.

But moral of the story is: make tall claims in manifesto to get votes from awaam. And then tax ONLY the poor segments of awaam and do not disturb khawas or the rich. Awaam ka kya hai, bol bol k chup ho jayen ge khud hi :D

Re: Budget 2013

sher aye or khaal na nochay? Impossible.......... budget 2013

Re: Budget 2013

Do Pakistani politicians simply lack vision?

A budget of $35.5bn is roughly $170 p/c. Laughable.

Pakistan needs to be run by technocrats trained abroad. Until they stabilise the country...

Re: Budget 2013

Sorry brother, It's not about what pakistanis want.. it's all about what Pakistan needs..

The little I understand about economics and business generation.. without which we will end nowhere.. the budget is balanced and includes major surgery of the fiscal affairs. I do agree the real challenge will come through implementation of a lot of things. How the present government manages the corporations losing Rs. 500 billion per annum.. how they manage to curtail power sector losses exceeding Rs. 600 billion. If they manage to control these two segments with better management.. the interest rates will automatically come down curtailing our debt servicing which exceeds Rs 1500 billion yearly. With fiscal deficit at present 9% of GDP.. we are going towards bankruptcy at a very fast pace. it's simply impossible to sustain with this level of fiscal deficit. We need bitter pills.. rather a surgery to correct these imbalances. We may like our government to dish out a lot of goodies to the public.. but presently it's a question of survival..

Re: Budget 2013

Do you still have to drag him in every discussions?

Re: Budget 2013

Not exactly, but when each and every Pakistani was being called corrupt then why should spare him?

Re: Budget 2013

Can anyone justify the decrease in tax for persons having salary between Rs 2,400,000 to 5,600,000 whereas increase in tax for persons having salary of Rs 600,000 to Rs 2,000,000. Is this progressive taxation by Ishaque Dar? :nook:

Re: Budget 2013

While all the changes in Finance Bill are applicable w.e.f July 1, 2013, proposal for change in Sales Tax rate from 16 to 17% was effective from June 13, 2013 leading to increase in prices of Petroleum Products.

No tax before parliamentary approval of bill: CJP

Re: Budget 2013

In effect the Sales Tax has gone from 15 to 17 %, as it increased to 16 % only a few days before Sharif’s took over. I am sure it was desired by PMLN financial wizards.

Re: Budget 2013

It was 15% upto 2008. PPP’s first budget in June 2008 brought it to 16%. It was increased to 17% in June 2011 and then reduced to 16% in June 2012. Again its been enhanced to 17%. sukoon nahin hai manhooson ko ik jaga tik kar bethne main :bummer:
