fear of flying

We’re going to Scotland next week…I was all excited about it but as soon as I heard we’re going on a plane my excitement turned into fear. I become highly anxious during the flight…I know it’s a short flight but still I’d like to enjoy the journey instead of dreading it all the way to Edinburgh.

Any tips to keep yourself calm during the flight?

Re: fear of flying

recite darood shareef u will feel much better

Re: fear of flying

I'm the same. The worst is take off and landing. As Arain Munda said, reciting darood shareef really helps.
Take a book with you? Or some magazines? Just to keep your mind off the fact your like a gazillion feet above ground :)

Re: fear of flying

I've just discussed it in my recent blog entry. I think the only solution is to just confront the situation and keep thinking that this isn't as scary as it seems. ermm.. I hope it works

Re: fear of flying

I hope MidnightExpress is at least giving his room to you guys

Re: fear of flying

Read GoT :D. Any other kind of distraction would work too.

Re: fear of flying

Reading books don't do the trick. I'd be reading darud sharif and ayat ul kursi constantly but even then...little bit of turbulence and my heart jumps up and down. I need someone to drug me for the 60 minutes I'd be spending in the air.

Re: fear of flying

The placebo effect of a Motilium Instant worked for me :rotfl:

I was having goosebumps in the plane last year, and I dunno why I asked for a motilium to my mom, took it and I was calmed.
Then the excitement took over me. I looove take offs and landing but the turbulences scare me to hell.

Re: fear of flying

Trust me flying at half so bad, its sailing and mountain climbing thats much more dangerous.

In fact apparently theres more danger on the roads than in the air so just relax and enjoy the views.

Best of luck with your journey and Insha Allah all will be fine.

Re: fear of flying

reciting the ayat ul kursi and the 4 kuls will help provided you have blind faith that they work as protection

but apart from that i dont really know never been anxious of flying myself in fact i love it but i do get motion sickness during a landing and if the plan passes trough a turbulent area :bummer:

what is the cause of ur anxiety anyways?

Re: fear of flying

If the anxiety is severe, is Xanax not an option?

Re: fear of flying

You should be fine as long as Pilot does not have anxiety :)

PS: reciting Ayat-ul-kursi and keeping the window covering down should do.

Re: fear of flying

Hanuman is the son of Vaayu, the Wind god. So you should be OK.

Re: fear of flying

print out some of your old (GS) threads and read it during the flight....
...or do something to keep your mind distracted during the flight... for example sleepless/hungry kid.. :-|

Re: fear of flying

i hate turbulence to i came bck on my own from pak to uk couple of months ago i was so scared 3 things i hate about planes take off, landing and worst of all turbulence 8 hr flight i was constantly reading darood sharif calmed me down , take sum mags or listen to music like a i pod mp3 ul be mashallah fine :)
