**i heard the same but i do NOT think that his official court-poet Ibraheem Zauq wrote any kalaam for Zafar because he was an egoistic maniac who would have revealed the truth after the King was exiled. ALSO, Zafar wrote that famous Ghazal “lagtaa nahiiN hai jee miraa…” in Burma [now Mayanmar] during his exile and when he had NO contact with Zauq.

KKF, Zauq died in 1854 before exile of Bahadur Shah Zafar in 1957. I think William Dalrymple also discussed the doubts for originality of Bahadur Shah Zafar’s poetry in his famous book ‘The Last Mughal’.
