Re: Favorite Mughal Emperor
Aurangzeb was the best mughal emperor
Re: Favorite Mughal Emperor
For me it really depends on what you consider as "Mughal" becuase the word Mughal is merely a Persian rendering of Mongol. The Mongols predate the Mughal empire and by that period there where many Khanates and Sultanates across the former lands of the unified Mongol people. That said it is hard to surpass the achievments of the first in line. Therefore by a long margin I rate Zahir Udeen Babur as the greatest of the Mughals who ruled Hinustan.
He had far less resources and faced far superior struggles to establish his empire. However unlike Akbar or Aurangzeb who came to the throne with a mass of loyal followers and a treasury and pre-established command structure, Babur had merely his bondsmen and close friends when he started out... thats not to say he had nothing at all, far from it but he was a mere chieftain of a backwards and small colony of a Khanate. To have conquered Hindustan with what small resources he had at his disposal was a brilliant achievement. All the Mughals were great but the first of the line was the one who established them and so in my opinion Babur wins this by a long way.
Akbar is probably the most well known, Aurangzeb was probably (if some accounts are to be believed) the most bloody, Sha Jahan was perhaps the most artisitic... but without Babur none of them would have been there at all... Babur led a rag tag bunch of tribal warriors and small time chiefs to the hieghts of glory... he built an empire from almost nothing and therefore thats why I think he deserves the recognition.

I think Babar had also good writing skills. Tuzk e Babri is a treat to read.

True !!! But Urdu Literature N Works More Respected During Reign Of Bahadur Shah Zafar
Re: Favorite Mughal Emperor
Yes linguistically and poetically Bahadur Sha Zafar was in his element. Unfortunately he was unlucky that he came to rule in such troubled times. Had someone like Aurangzeb or perhaps even Babur then the Mughals might have saved themselves from the terrible death of the empire... but to be honest the Empire was dead a century before the British arrived, its millitary had decline since the 1750's
Re: Favorite Mughal Emperor
True, bcoz before that Persian was the language of darbar and mahal. BTW, I heard most of poetry which is being called poetry of Bahadur Shah Zafar is not actually written by him. Whatever the fact, I like following poetry of Bahadur Shah Zafar:

Thanks For sharing !!! Mohd Rafi`s Song Was The Best !!!
Re: Favorite Mughal Emperor
**i heard the same but i do NOT think that his official court-poet Ibraheem Zauq wrote any kalaam for Zafar because he was an egoistic maniac who would have revealed the truth after the King was exiled. ALSO, Zafar wrote that famous Ghazal “lagtaa nahiiN hai jee miraa…” in Burma [now Mayanmar] during his exile and when he had NO contact with Zauq.
vaise, wallaho 'aalam bissawaab! ![]()
i LOVE this ghazal:
