Fatima Bhutto fears she could be prosecuted...

So much for democracy. One dictator comes and another arrives. The nation trusted these politicians yet they prove to be know better than who they replaced. Theres taliban in the north-west, and now so-called liberals in suits bringing into place draconian laws.

The internet was one of the few places where one could discuss issues and now that will go soon. I wonder if sites will be banned in Pakistan like in UAE/KSA?

Fatima Bhutto fears prosecution -DAWN - Top Stories; February 13, 2009

LONDON, Feb 12: Fatima Bhutto, niece of the slain former premier Benazir Bhutto, fears that she could be liable for prosecution for her writings criticising the government, under the ‘prevention of electronic crimes ordinance’ introduced in the shape of a bill before the parliament recently.
Writing in the Guardian on Thursday, Miss Bhutto said Pakistan’s ‘so-called democratic government’ had introduced the bill “to censor our already frightened media”.
According to the bill, she said, anyone found guilty of “cyber terrorism” — an undefined crime — is liable to face the death penalty.
She asserted that the government’s vague bill threatened anyone guilty of “spoofing” or “spamming” or the “character assassination” of any member of state with prison sentences.
“Any of the articles I’ve written critical of my country’s role in the war on terror or questioning the corruption of the state could constitute “spoofing” (the bill doesn’t elaborate on whether it is satire that the PPP government is fundamentally opposed to or simply jolly fun-making).
“The bill is an escalation of intimidation from the state. In Oct 2008 the government announced that the terrorism wing of the country’s Federal Investigation Authority would be tasked with hunting down the “anti-democratic” forces that were circulating YouTube videos and text messages aimed at discrediting the ruling party’s politicians.
“Because the press is muzzled, no voices were raised in protest at the announcement that text messages had become treasonous devices in Pakistan. So now we have an actual law about to be put into place, farcically silencing those of us who are not afraid to speak. I’m almost certain I’ve assassinated some characters in the process of being a journalist — Pakistan is, at present, the only country in the world run by two former criminals.”
She said that “another odious bill, the National Reconciliation Ordinance, already passed in parliament had cleared Pakistan’s politicians of 20 years’ worth of corruption cases against them and includes a stipulation that would make it virtually impossible to file charges of misconduct against any sitting parliamentarian. “The NRO was used to clear Pakistan’s ruling party members of other crimes, surpassing our already crippled judiciary, and placing those in power above the law. Criticism of the NRO was unsurprisingly muted in the Pakistani press. Did you know that these 403 words could land me a jail sentence? I’ve spoofed, I’ve defamed, and I’ve disseminated, all deadly crimes.”
Meanwhile, Fatima herself fell a victim recently to alleged ‘spoofing’, ‘spamming’ and ‘character assassination’ by a US tabloid, The National Inquirer, which linked the otherwise very correct Miss Bhutto with many years her- senior- in- age Hollywood heartthrob George Clooney.
Without quoting any source, the NI report says that the two had dated after meeting at some international conference (no date, no venue and no title of the conference). The story also carries a video clip showing the two in separate frames which totally contradicts the implied claim of the NI that Clooney is all set to woo Fatima if she agreed.

Re: Fatima Bhutto fears she could be prosecuted...

Come on , these Poltical Orphans like Ghanwa Bhutto and her dating love lil who cannot even win a single seat in elections post something nonesense on and off to keep herself in lime-light.Afterall who cannot even speak Urdu , would we people in Pakistan even give a damn to elect her or even think about her.

They should enjoy dating and Lebanon and Paris hotels , in politics they are always be kicked out in past and as in future. Her mother was shamelessly beating and slapping Nisar Khoro on 18 Feburary,2009 while all men were watching her what this mad woman is doing. This sweetie should enjoy her dating and drinks , Pakistan and its politics is not for those who even cannot speak thier native language or have spend thier whole life abroad.

Re: Fatima Bhutto fears she could be prosecuted...

^Very sad and disturbing comments.

Re: Fatima Bhutto fears she could be prosecuted...

But quite true :(

Re: Fatima Bhutto fears she could be prosecuted...

^Apparently the news of her affair with the hollywood actor was a hoax.

Re: Fatima Bhutto fears she could be prosecuted...

But they have no political support not even from Sindh

Re: Fatima Bhutto fears she could be prosecuted...

Never liked her, and never will. She is an impressive writer but shes just all talk. Her step mom is also a 'ghunda' and she will never ever get votes. Fatima, quit whining and keep a lid on it, you are hardly the woman your aunt was.

Re: Fatima Bhutto fears she could be prosecuted...

p.s. clooney prolly hates whiners like her.

Re: Fatima Bhutto fears she could be prosecuted...

I would be willing to be her bodyguard.

Re: Fatima Bhutto fears she could be prosecuted...

Yeah that's quite true....she's a whiner and no one likes whiners.

Re: Fatima Bhutto fears she could be prosecuted...

come on guys, don't be mean. we are the ones who are always whining about the dearth of intelligent and young leadership in Pakistani politics and yet when a relatively 'unseasoned' politician enters the scene (including imran khan) everyone starts complaining about how they are all talk, can't win any seats blah blah

i'm no PPP fan, didn't like Benazir much either but this girl I respect because she has been quietly getting her point across and remaining active in the socio-political scene through her writings, not empty rhetorics on a podium. I cannot believe this ridiculous bill has been passed, curtailing the freedom of media and she is the first one to say something about it! where are the rest of the 'seasoned' journalists who were having conniption fits in the past over this issue under musharraf?

being prosecuted by the zardari govt i'm sure is a real fear for her, i'm sure zardari does not want a real bhutto threatening his take over of PPP, who would know him better than this girl, whose father he openly executed.

I dont have problems with Fatima protesting against the bill, its her right, but when she over glorifies herself, gloats about how its introduced just for her, thats where I see a problem. Her mom cant even win a single seat and its quite obvious who Fatima's trying so hard to imitate. Yes, we need young aspiring leaders but NOT ones that are using their aunts, chachaz, abbas or dadajees to parle sympathy votes for themselves.

Re: Fatima Bhutto fears she could be prosecuted...

She doesn't have the qualities of a leader....she's just a child [though she's in her late 20's] and comparing her to Imran Khan is just not fair.

Re: Fatima Bhutto fears she could be prosecuted...

How much the Bhutto's get attention! What have they actually done for Pakistan, I mean the Islamic Republic of Pakistan? She she fear she gets prosecuted, that makes the headline. It's Bhutto, but the cup of death put upon the 4 innocent Ahmadi children is not worth being discussed here @GS or in general. Wasn't it Zia who put Ali Zulfikar Bhutto on the rope? Contradicting isn't it? Disgusting isn't it? Naare Taakbeer, Allah Hu Akbar! The same Zia-ul-Haq who placed a fatwa like command "Erasing Ahmadiyyat from the face of the World" Was he successful?

It's not all about Ahmadiyyat, but all four corners of Pakistan are burning. Methaphorically. Poetic like!
This is the truth, Deny it if you dare...

you are right, she has an axe to grind with zardari and i’m sure she’ll use every opportunity to put him down, but she does seem to condemn birthright politics

“I don’t believe in birthright politics,” she says, adding, “I don’t think, nor have I ever thought, that my name qualifies me for anything. I am political through my writing. I have no interest in parliamentary politics for now. I’m too young. There’s a lot to learn”.

source: ‘I don’t believe in birthright politics’]('I don't believe in birthright politics')

thats exactly what Imran khan’s critics say about him. the comparison was meant only in terms of experience with politics not a personality comparison.

[note]This topic has ZILCH to do with Ahmediyat, please do not drag your personal agendas into places where its not needed.[/note]

true I agree, and personally as much as I despise Zardari, I dont think he offed Murtaza, it was the agencies which wanted a regime change in the country.

Trust me, when the time is right for her, she’ll come and claim her ‘birthright’.

Imran was kept in jail for absolutely nothing, beaten up, manhandled, his sisters were beaten up brutally by the last regime. The man has been through alot and has sacrificed alot too; even his marriage fell prey to his political career. Fatima on the other hand lives and enjoys her cosy comfy life. Its an unfair comparison, IMHO.

Re: Fatima Bhutto fears she could be prosecuted...

Also, a poster made comment about her not being able to speak the national language, on the other hand Imran is able to speak more than few languages and that's a plus point for leadership. I don't think she can speak Urdu even as much as her aunt did.

It has,

if you waste your time on persecuting Ahmadies and hanging Politicians. Mother killed, granfather hanged...Great Stage Pakistan has to beat. Don't tell me what to say and what not...

To care for others is A Personal Agenda, don't be so offensive towards me. I have not done something wrong to you...I do not only care for Ahmadies, I care for entire mankind and not like those who differentiate and draw lines...

We need ONLY ONE TOPIC to show what's going wrong and not plenty of them!

Re: Fatima Bhutto fears she could be prosecuted...

Numb I am not going to argue with you, but consider this a polite request, do not drag this topic here in this thread any further because quite frankly it has nothing to do with whats being discussed. The topic pertains to Fatima's account of how Zardari is trying to victimize her based on the fact she writes against him ardently. What happened in 1970s about what you are trying to relate has nothing to do with it.

As for your personal agenda, every single post you have on here is pretty much concerning the same issue. When you bring it into threads which have nothing to do with that, everyone will think you are trolling, and thats not meant in an offensive way, atleast from my side.
