Re: Fate of Shoaib and Asif

o yaar samjha karo, Ganguly wapis aa gaya hay naa... ab agar Shoaib bowling karwaye ga to Ganguly kaisay khailay ga??

Re: Fate of Shoaib and Asif

^ Shoaib is 2nd malinga on our planet Maharaj  he deserves rank 2 in batta bolwers list since pidyaish :cb: don’t forget to look at his bowling action using ur binocular

Re: Fate of Shoaib and Asif

so what is happening, I don't get it, Pakistan team is flying to WI for WC07 and shoaib and asif will fly back to Pakistan (Thurdsay and Friday). When are they planning to join the squad? they have to pass fitness test and that dopeY test.

what is the test result processing time? 48 hours?

Re: Fate of Shoaib and Asif

Good point. But to be honest, how much good can dope do in this sport anyway? As opposed to football (soccer) for example, cricket is much more of a skill game than hardcore stamina. Even fast bowlers bowl limited spells and then rest in the sun. Akhtar has passed ICC-conducted dope tests before, and he bowls the same amount of overs in a spell that he did when he was ten years younger. I do not see how he could have used drugs intentionally to “enhance” his performances.

Re: Fate of Shoaib and Asif

My friend, as an Indian - there is nothing like beating a full-strength Pak Side (Circa, March 1st, 2003).

That said, I stand for Cricket without filth - match fixing, chuckers, dope and things of such nature.

Re: Fate of Shoaib and Asif

Bus peyshaab ka siwaal hai

Re: Fate of Shoaib and Asif

No wonder boolteee-baand ho gaye thi when you blue bhindee's were told to play in Sharjah :p hiding behind a lame excuse.

Match fixing biggest pool is in your own backyard, now go and clean the drain of BCCI.

Re: Fate of Shoaib and Asif

Game Saheb...
When you allow dope in Cricket, the repurcussions are huge.
For example, what you are saying is that players can now use banned substances not just for "perceived" performace enhancement but also for health reasons(suppress pain etc).
Now certain steroids can have severe side-effects and can even affect longevity of a player (through organ enlargement and all) . An injured player who does not want to take it will be at a disadvantage as compared to another injured player who will gladly consume it.

Re: Fate of Shoaib and Asif

We also brought it to the lime-light.
I remember Delhi Police being ridiculed in South Africa and elsewhere when they first came out with Hansie Cronje's name. The South African ambassador said the accent of the person supposed to be Hansie Cronje on the tape was not South African.

Give our thulley log some credit.

Re: Fate of Shoaib and Asif

Credit for what yaar? making the Int' players be a part of match fixing first using your ex-players and then recording them on tape.

Re: Fate of Shoaib and Asif

There is no zero-tolerance policy for dope test and Cricket is no exception. Cricket officials and lovers try to play the clean part for God know what reason, but the fact is performance enhancing drug is a new phenomenon that majority of sports is having difficulty handling.

Re: Fate of Shoaib and Asif

LMAO

they are suppose to fly back to pak (asif - thursday, shoaib - friday) do the tests, and fly back to the west indies in time for saturdays practice session.

fingers crossed

Re: Fate of Shoaib and Asif

This is PCB's gameplan IMO

  • PCB is doing its best to help Akhtar & Asif. Remember Nasim Ashraf is a medical doctor, a nephrologist (kidney or renal specialist) by profession. So he's gambling on giving Asif and Akhtar more time in order for levels of nandrolone metabolite/break down product/traces (19-norandrosterone) in their urine to come down below 2.

  • The team is due to fly out to the Caribbean tomorrow (1st Mar). Both Asif and Akhtar could join the team later also (cf. Gilchrist and Symonds). Which means that Inzi will have 13 players to pick an XI from for the friendly games.

  • Asif and Akhtar are due to return to Pakistan on 1st and 2nd March respectively.

  • Since there is NO deadline for team players to be in Jamaica (March 2 deadline is only to announce replacements for injured players), the PCB could say to the ICC that Shoaib & Asif are in the UK to assess injuries

  • Meanwhile, if in repeat secret dope tests it becomes clear that 19-norandrosterone has come down to legally acceptable levels, they can join the team in the Caribbean in time for the first serious game against WI on 13 March.

  • If the levels cannot come down by 13 March, then they will return to Pakistan stating they are injured and it will then be upto ICC's technical committee to allow replacements (since the deadline of March 2 would have passed by then)

PCB's official position till uncertainty remains over their repeat tests: ''They are both undergoing assesment on injury in the UK & can return anytime they are "cleared" to be fit''

wait for some more TAMAASHA

Re: Fate of Shoaib and Asif

I think Australians have every right to be upset. Imagine Brett Lee and Glenn testing positive and then playing in the WC against Pakistan and beating Pakistan. The same guppies who see nothing wrong with Shoaib and Asif playing today would be screaming on how big a CHEATS the Australians are. I can bet you that. We talk about the West double standards when I see the same being done by many of us on this very forum
BTW Shoaib is not what we make him out to be. In his total career he has taken some 200 odd one day wickets. With the exception of the England tour in the past two to three years we have won most of our matches without him being in the team.
Asif on the other hand is a great test match bowler but as a one day player he is decent. The problem we have is that our cupboard is so bare that we cannot even replace a one day decent bowler like Asif with another decent bowler.
Guys as I keep repeating. We have a very slight chance of winning the WC even with these two on board. We had both of them in England but failed to win the one day series in not too distant past.
Let us play fair and square and if we lose we lose with dignity. If we win now with these two in the team there will always be questions about our integrity

Re: Fate of Shoaib and Asif

I am sure it was a great pleasures for many Indian to beat a country 1/10th of your population and who was keep beating you for over 56 years. I am sure it was sweet, but unfortunately it didnt last too long even though Pakistan visited with a weak side in next tour.

Shoaib to delay World Cup flight!

Re: Fate of Shoaib and Asif

I have to agree with Rational2, you can argue all day about how trivial this issue and pcb is trying to send bowlers only if they are dope free but once Pakistan start doing good in WC with shoib & Asif in the team there will be many more haydens pointng fingers at them.

I think this issue is getting murkier everyday and looks like it only gone get bigger and nastier.

PCB was given lot of credit when they come open with the dope test results, they could have put end to this issue if they have curbed their sentiment and stick to the initial punishment, they could have risked the worldcup but instead they would have gained lot of respect and credibilty from the cricketing circles all over the world. I think PCB has scerwed up big time handling this issue.

Re: Fate of Shoaib and Asif

Everything said and done, the secret and unscrupulous machinations by the PCB with regards to Asif/Akhtar is in very poor taste. A professional national level sports body should not stoop this low.

I mean, how much does it take for the PCB to clarify the situation with regards to Asif/Akhtar. Their silence on this indicates that they are hand in glove with whatever is going on.

Re: Fate of Shoaib and Asif

agree with rational2 and sarkar123 on things potentially getting murkier and uglier with each passing day. You make very valid points. Even if fresh secret tests in UK were to show that traces of nandrolone had come down to acceptable levels (i.e. <2) and ICC tests later confirmed the same, the issue is not going to just die down and people like Symonds and Hayden won't stop pointing fingers at Pakistan esp. if we start doing well in the WC. So PCB really is in a no-win situation.
