With alot of possible scenarios concerning these two, lets stick to one thread instead of opening multiple threads. I know there is another thread regarding Pakistan team development however this issue has become the single most important issue for Pakistan cricket and their preparation for World Cup.
Seems like ICC has decided not to leave any option for these 2. The latest development is the announcement regarding trageted testing instead of random.
Pakistan ponders whether or not to take Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif to the Caribbean, the ICC has refused to rule out the possibility that it may carry out targeted dope tests during the World Cup.
In a communication to the boards of all countries participating in the event, the ICC has said it will maintain its right to target test players at any point during the event, a PCB official told Cricinfo.
As per the communication, the ICC is likely to carry out testing in 16 matches with four tests (two per team) in each of the matches. It adds that while the tests are intended to be random and will not be announced in advance, the ICC will reserve the right to target test players.
Well we will know for sure by Tuesday 27 Feb which way the wind is blowing. My gut feeling is that neither will go to the WC as their second ‘secret’ dope test in London (? coming Monday) is likely to remain positive. Sami and Azhar Mahmood are likely to replace them in the WC squad http://www.geosuper.tv/news_detail.asp?id=3137
Guys i don't understand why winning is so important for so many of you even if it means we have to cheat.
What about morals and fairplay. If the guys tooks dope then they should be banned. We criticize Australia to no end but they made their best player Shane Warne sit out for a year due to use of drugs. On the other hand Pakistan knowing that Wasim is a freaking sattay baz made him captain of the side for they did not want to lose him.
Same thing with Shoaib and Asif. If they are guilty then punish them by not doing so we come across as cheats to the rest of the world. The whole nation gets painted as cheats. If we are to win the WC we will do so without these two and if it is not in our fate then we will lose. Win or lose at least we take the high moral ground.
The reason why we are so behind in this world is because the first thing we trade are our principals
Hope PCB gets some sense and take stands which are honest
I dont see this as cheating, why do you call this cheating? Yes they were tested +ively the first time, they are resting ... or working on getting rid of the dopey substance. The reason we are behind is we dont rasie the issue as "One" they were guilty, the way they were aqquited was wrong, I agree with you there but the case is pending at WADA. However if PCB is giving them time to flush out whatever traces are left in their bodies, its not against any rules laid by ICC or wADA or is it?
Acrobi123 what I am saying is that we tend to focus on winning only and not how we win. The point is that we need to play fair if we want to be respected internationally. Winning and winning fairly are two different things altogether. Shoaib and Asif should not even be in the squad.
They used drugs they need to be punished. They never were. As a matter of fact they are being shielded so that the traces get flushed out of their system. In the end these two took drugs. Ignorance is a pathetic plea. There are twenty other players in the same team and as illeterate (if not more) than Asif who did not take drugs.
I can bet you anything that if it was Rao or Hafiz or any other player not instrumental to Pak WC chances was caught PCB would have banned them for a year at least. Remember banning Saleem Malik and exhonirating Wasim and co. Saleem had overstayed his "use by" date while Wasim, Saeed Anwar and all were still in their prime.
We cannot be selective with justice. But then that would be asking too much. It is more a national trait where the rich and influential get away with bloody murder while the poor feel the wrath of justice for the most minor crimes.
Hope the point is clear.

I could not have put it any better! Succinct, concise and to-the-point brutally honest without cutting corners.
Oye, moral chachas, bakwas band rakho sab. It was an internal test, and it is no one’s damn business to interfere and give out Nehru ke lectures. And besides, for every positive dope test, there are hundreds of biased umpiring decisions, false tampering allegations, lame excuses for not visiting venues like Karachi, etc. etc. Fix those first before whining about how the “dopeheaded cheats” might probably get away with murder. Bunch of whining shmucks :o .
Never in the history of Pakistan cricket we have gone so low that we keep including our half fit and half moral players in our side because we have no back up bowlers who can win the game for us.Just imagine how much money PCB has invested in Shoaib and how much has he delivered. to my recollection he has not played a full series at least in the last five years. If we would have invested this much time and money in our budding youngesters we would be in a much different situation by now. thanks to our much conservative caption. I hope after the world cup all this crap will be cleared when someone else takes the captaincy.
I dont want to make it, socio-geo/political discussion here, I agree with you 100% only if this was a "perfect world" keeping it short; if you live in north-amreeka(kanada or amreeka)... you make every effort that you dont get a traffic ticket, coz it can have cause and effects (insurance, de-merit points...etc) and moral and ethics are flushed down the drain.
Speaking of Wasim, Saleem and Anwar, well those were the days, who had more sources would get his way, and that has been cut down to an extent considering present scenario. I can only recall Shane warne who was banned for a year due to dopey reasons. The reason you said that; if this was another player would PCB have gone to the same length, I think this PCB would have for any player's name that is mentioned in the WC squad/ they spend so much $$$ on Shabbir didnt they? and who did the drugs were in their system altogether, well that is another story; responsibility goes on the physio and team doc shoulder too.
As for the speculations that they are in England just to get the traces of drug(s) flushed, Do you have any concrete proof of that or its another newspaper report?

Acrobi123 I never said that they are in England getting their systems cleared of drugs. I said they are shielded by the board in terms of time so that the traces get out of their system eventually.
Anyways this is my take and everyone is perfectly entitled to their own opinion. I guess that is why we have this forum :-)
Ofcourses traces (and by that we literally mean 19-norandrosterone, a breakdown product of nandrolone which is measured in urine rather than nandrolone itself) will be found in their urine. The real bone of contention is the actual level of this metabolism product in their urine samples. A limit of 2 ng per ml of urine (set by the International Olympic Committee) is the maximum concentration thought possible to occur in human body by ‘natural means’, and if this is exceeded the drug test is considered positive.
