Fasting in hot and sizzling summer is really very tough. I hardly see any of the people who work in the open in hot sun and humid wind, ever fasting. Even people working in the offices avoid fasting.
Re: Fasting in summer
I spent the ramadan of 2004 in London. I never felt if was fasting over there. But who can dare to fast on a June day in Karachi? Yesterday it was very very hot here.
Re: Fasting in summer
When I started keeping fast the first time in life, it were during May-June months... it used to feel a day too long...
Re: Fasting in summer
Were you working the construction of a road then here in Pakistan?
Re: Fasting in summer
My experience has been otherwise. During my job on the construction of motorway, I have seen in Pak most ( alomost all) workers working in hot sun do fast. Those in the office also fast.
Re: Fasting in summer
And it will be back in June after 36 years.
Re: Fasting in summer
It started on May 8 in 1986.
Re: Fasting in summer

Re: Fasting in summer
It will again be in May in 2020.
Re: Fasting in summer
But if you were working on roads then, would you have dared to fast?
Re: Fasting in summer
Ramadan takes 6 years to pass a solar month - first three years in head and later three years in tail.
Re: Fasting in summer
The longest roza in Pakistan on a summer day is in Gilgit and the shortest roza on the same day in Pakistan is in Badin.
Re: Fasting in summer
Sialkot is the first major city in Pakistan to undo fast and Gawadar is the last.

No one among us can dare to do so in such conditions, only if Allah bless us with the strength and patience. (But we must also make our sincere efforts)

Which part of Pakistan did you live? I had been through all Sindh during Ramadan and I always saw resturants open there.
Re: Fasting in summer
Indeed it was Zia's Ahtram-e-Ramadan ordinance which forced people to shut food business during Ramadan. Before his rule - all the foods shops and resturants used to remain open (with a purdah then).
Re: Fasting in summer
I think Roza is only for rich and the middle class.
Re: Fasting in summer
And at the same time, it is the month of low production and high expenditure in Pakistan as working hours are drastically cut. And I think this cut is against the spirit of roza.

Let me correct you, if you are mentioning the motorway between Lahore and Islamabad. That was constructed during 1995-1999 and Ramadan were then in Feb to Dec then.
