Fard-Al-Ayn Part 1: Introduction

:salam:

Scholars recommend all Muslims (business owners, lay folk, commoners, etc) to complete the Fard -al-Ayn these are as follows:

  1. Tajweed - Learning to correctly pronounce the words of the Qur’an
  2. Aqeedah - Study the basic creed of the Ahl-us-Sunnah wal-Jamaah
  3. Memorisation of Qur’anic verses - 1 Juz
  4. Basic Fiqh - Purification, Prayer, Fasting, Alms-giving, Pilgrimage
  5. Basic Arabic Grammar - Learning Arabic with some grammar
  6. Basic guidance on good character - Ayyuhal-walad, Imam Al-Ghazali

These elements help make a well rounded Muslim out of all of us … and are generally considered necessary in order to complete our obligations in Islam as precursory to our social obligations.

I propose that we work through these collectively … what do you say?

Re: Fard-Al-Ayn Part 1: Introduction

وعليكم السلام
It does not include reading Quran for comprehension?

Re: Fard-Al-Ayn Part 1: Introduction

@psyah, Why only juz 1? Why not all the 30?

Re: Fard-Al-Ayn Part 1: Introduction

Peace ajazali and Sady

The Fard-ul-'ayn is different to the normal faraid that we have in our normal walks of life … First to answer Sady’s question … Our own Shaykh has required us to memorise up to 1 juz of the Qur’an if we have not already done so … Technically you need to memorise around 4 surahs for prayer, because no prayer extends beyond 4 rakahs, but its a target to keep. It can be any juz or collection of surahs around the Qur’an … My personal goal is to complete:

Surah Baqarah, Surah Kahf, Surah Yasin, Surah Waqiah, Surah Rahman, Surah Mulk, Juz 'Amma … and then may be Surah Mujadilah and then Surah Hadeed. I have got may be 15% of this total amount so far, Alhumdulillah.

Brother ajazali

The Fard-ul-Ayn are structured as a target level and then to maintain that level … in a way it does include Qur’an for comprehension - through the learning Arabic requirement. But you may notice it is not about the cyclical state - which would warrant Salah more than anything … Reading Qur’an is a cyclical thing … It is a habit like prayer and not really an achievement as such.

So the Fard-ul-Ayn are identified as a minimum qualification for a Muslim individual to be equipped in his or her Islam. Whereas ongoing routine based rites and rituals are to be done anyway. If you notice these are all knowledge based, basic fiqh is not about doing the Salah, but knowing how to do it, etc … I hope that makes sense.

Re: Fard-Al-Ayn Part 1: Introduction

Islam is about ACTION … But in order to make the actions we do count … we need to have:

a) The Knowledge of how to do them
b) The Knowledge of how to direct them
c) The Knowledge of the how to let the actions affect us for increase in piety

The Fard-ul-Ayn is about enabling, unlocking the secrets of Islam such that when we do the motions they affect our hearts in turn and our hearts fine tune the actions and so on …

Arguably for an adult Muslim the Fard-ul-Ayn is more important - because they contextualise the whole of the Islamic experience for the Muslim in the correct manner.

Re: Fard-Al-Ayn Part 1: Introduction

@psyah

I think the 2/4 sunnat units of the prayers which come before the 2/4 farz units of prayers in Fjr, Zohr & Isha are also obligatory. So, we need to memorize more than just 4 surahs also because we should not repeat reading the same surahs in all the units.

And about memorizing, I wanna memorize the entire quran. I’ve been thinking about it for a while now. But have not so far because not sure if this will be easy. What a shame a muslim thinking that. I think all the muslim parents should ensure their children memorize the entire Quran at a young age.

Re: Fard-Al-Ayn Part 1: Introduction

And Im still confused about the ‘Witr’ prayer in that whether it is obligatory, how to read and what the significance of it is.

Re: Fard-Al-Ayn Part 1: Introduction

I’ll check … but I believe - 4 Surahs because the repeating is only not allowed for when we are within the same prayer unit, but when a new unit begins after salam, like a different set - you can start again.

About memorising Qur’an … yes please make niyyat to memorise whole Qur’an - and start to learn bits everyday … if your life is taken in that state then may be you will be raised among the huffaaz …

Re: Fard-Al-Ayn Part 1: Introduction

Yes … it needs to be prayed and it has qazda too (Hanafi Maslak) … but having knowledge in this matter is exactly what Fard-ul-Ayn is all about.
