Re: Fancy Abayas for weddings
Ooh yeah the arms look a little too crazy, I'm not a fan of batwing or puffy arms :/

Re: Fancy Abayas for weddings
MH - does she only want a black coloured abaya?
is the wedding segregated? is it possible for her to wear an abaya overtop her outfit and then take it off when she is in the venue?
this is the outfit that I wore to a religious function. It came with churidaar, but I opted to wear it with my black pallazzo pants instead.
its a pretty long kameez, and it really does look like an abaya. In my opinion, looks better than those bedazzaled abayas you see these days. It’s more elegant.
Nonetheless, another company to consider is Wahat Aljalabiya for Casual, Occasion, Traditional, Luxury Jalabiya, Jilbab, Kaftan, Abaya Fashion Online Shopping Store
Re: Fancy Abayas for weddings
She wears all sorts of colours, we're (the sisters) are all wearing a midnight blue so she'll be wearing the same colour. The think about kameezes is that the fit of it can be different (plus she hasn't got your figure :p) to an abayah, and she's
Wedding's not segregated, we're having a girls only mehndi so she's gonna go all-out for that. But the other thing is that my sister's expecting as well so she wants something thats loose and easy to wear.
Thanks for the links though, appreciate it
Re: Fancy Abayas for weddings
ah i see. I like the midnight blue. Maybe she can get it custom made from Pakistan. An abaya with matchign kaam/embroidary as the rest of the sisters.
Is that possible? Or even buy the material in the UK and have it sewn to her liking. Even a plain abaya could look pretty and elegant with right accessories.
A lot of Gujrati girls I know get their abayas from India..and they are soooo nice!
Re: Fancy Abayas for weddings
Yeah we’re getting our outfits from pakistan but needed pics to show the designers, my mum’s in Pakistan at the moment so it’s easier for her to get images copied cos she doesn’t always know what we want etc etc.
My sister liked the idea of making this into an abayah cos it’s cheap and simple, the only down side to it was that when you wear a hijab, a lot of the neck/bust area can get covered and would kinda defeat the point of having work around that area:
Heh, funny you say that about Gujerati girls, one of my best friends is one and I always get her to order me clothes cos they’re much cheaper than India. I did ask her to look at designs but the style of their kaam and material didn’t appeal to my sister as much. Plus I tend to find that the designer my friend uses can do saris/anarkalis really well, but can’t get the cut of the abayahs quite right ![]()

that’s gorgeous! maybe she can get a similar kaam more on teh sleeves, the back of the abaya and the bottom of the abaya. . I really dont like it when the top only has the kaam either. No point for us hijabis. And then the hijab gets ruined by the kaam ![]()
i love this company:
simple abayas, but the cuts are gorgeous, and again, easy to jazz it up with accessories. But they are so expensive! would rather show a tailor in pakistan to make the same abaya for me ![]()
Re: Fancy Abayas for weddings
Hello! My cousin recently got married. And we got some designer abayas replicated in a more desi style (and budget :p) for her pregnant SIL. I don’t have permission to post pictures of the abayas her SIL wore. But we took inspiration from these lovely formal abayas (DAS Collection) that I’m attaching pictures of .. She didn’t want the all-black look so we introduced a LOT of color!
For the mehndi, this abaya was replicated in a sea green crepe with sea green batik print silk being used instead of the print in the original abaya. Also, instead of the high-waisted belt, we got one of the beautiful crystal brooches that are so easily available in the market. The scarf was a darker sea green than the abaya and had a one-inch patti of the batik print on all four sides.

For the shaadi day, we got the cut like the abaya on the left but the embroidery like the picture on the right. This was in a light grey georgette material with silver threads running through it. The embroidery was done in a slightly darker grey and pale pink metallic threads. The scarf was also light grey like the abaya and had a 1 inch light grey banarsi patti on all 4 sides plus pale pink banarsi piping.

For the walima day, we got her SIL this abaya style but in a gorgeous deep purple crepe - the gold and silver embellishment on the sleeves was breathtaking. And I particularly liked her scarf because it was the same color as the abaya but had the only one row each of the gold and silver sequin work - very delicate!

ETA: These abayas were all made under PKR 5000 each. And the finished look was really elegant. Her SIL said she plans to get a lot of wear out of them for the duration of her pregnancy ![]()
Re: Fancy Abayas for weddings
She could try having the work done lower, and having a more open collar instead of a fitted one. But if she’s really strict about covering her bust area, it won’t work. Still really pretty though!
Re: Fancy Abayas for weddings
I love them tooooo! but they are so expensive. I agree with you it’s better to buy the material here and send it to Pakistan or India to have the work put on it. and then getting it sewn into an abaya. That’s what my cousins do. I really like that outfit idea you posted by the way, you may have inspired my Eid outfit! Thank you!

Re: Fancy Abayas for weddings
hey MH, I just found this one via the akhawat face book, it’s a new design, take out the puffy sleeves and I think it’s lovely. Plus it’ll accommodate your sister’s growing bundle :). I’m kind of in love with it.
plus, with the slit the way it is, she can put midnight blue in their if she prefers to keep her usual black.
Re: Fancy Abayas for weddings
Oooh I like that one. It's actually quite chic, I'm pretty sure she'll like it! I was just checking out the Akhwat group on Facebook so will defo bookmark it for her. Thanks Asiya!
We've place a couple of orders for my sister now so hopefully she'll get something she's happy with. I'm speaking to my friend who orders outfits from India to see what they can come up with to and how well they can copy designs

Let us know how things work out! When my best friend got married I had to wear an abaya and I was so pregnant and it was so hard to find anything! I practically cried cause I'd been looking forward to her wedding and then I had to be a pregnant bridesmaid, you know? Khair, alhamdullilah, it was worth it in the end. I hope your sister finds something she likes.
Re: Fancy Abayas for weddings
Will do!
I think she's feeling the same a little bit in that she wanted to be able to run around for the wedding, this is the first girl's wedding we've had in the family for a decade (since her own!) so she wanted to wear something pretty and now it's just more work for her to find something that she likes.
