Sethi, Hussain enter into legal battle
Karachi: Geo TV anchor Najam Sethi has reportedly served legal notice on Dawn TV anchor Talat Husain for leveling false allegations against him.
Talat who appeared very frustrated in his show which he conducted on Bahria Town property tycoon Malik Riaz the other day he took on Sethi for his relations with Riaz.
Out of sheer frustration he directly accused Sethi of taking favours from Malik. He said Sethi’s chiria (sparrow) in fact is Malik Riaz from whom he takes all the information of the power corridors.
Talat did not stop here. He said like Sethi many others anchors and journalists would try to absolve Riaz of the scam because they had a lot of favours from him.
In his ‘professional’ reporting Talat in his hatred of Riaz and Sethi he had established that poor Dr Arsalan Iftikhar (CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry’s son) was trapped by Riaz by giving Rs400 million or more.
The poor baby of the CJ came to know his mistake after spending half of the amount in European destinations and their colourful night clubs. All evidence is with Riaz, believes Talat.
Sethi rebutted Talat’s allegations in his program saying “he is jealous of me and Geo” . “Talat’s program rating on Dawn TV is very low and to raise it he is taking on personalities like me,” Sethi said.
Talat believes that Sethi and adviser to interior ministry Rehman Malik had gone to London to give evidence they were provided by Riaz to journalist Christina Lamb who is going to publish the real story in British press in coming Sunday.
Riaz reportedly will continue to feign his ‘illness’ in London to avoid appearance in the Supreme Court.

ISLAMABAD, June 8: With the Supreme Court seized with the allegation of a business deal between real estate tycoon Malik Riaz and Chief Justice’s son, Dr Arsalan Iftikhar, a new request was filed on Friday demanding production of an agreement between the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and the Bahria Town (Pvt) Ltd.
Filed by Advocate Tariq Asad, who had taken up the issue of missing Adiyala prisoners, the application urges the Supreme Court to consider him as a party in Dr Arsalan’s case.
He has requested the court to summon full record of expensive gifts and huge kickbacks given to important state organisations and officials allegedly by Bahria Town to influence them.
He has asked for an investigation to find out how an ordinary clerk of Military Engineering Services (MES) became a billionaire within a few years.
“A commission be appointed comprising retired judges and army officers of high repute,” the petition said, adding the commission should also take over the management of DHA and Bahria Town projects so that the investment made by ordinary people could be protected.
He also highlighted the bribe given as gifts, plots, lands, houses and expensive cars to retired and serving army officers, bureaucrats and lawyers to influence the government and the judiciary.
“He gives them jobs with salaries of million of rupees and high perks without any assignment only to influence the civil government to legalise the illegal acts,” the petition alleged.
He said Malik Riaz had several retired military generals on his payroll which was humiliating for the Pakistan Army.
The petitioner alleged that Bahria Town had grabbed Rs62 billion of people of the middle and lower middle classes and that Malik Riaz helped Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to launch the Ashiana Housing Scheme for political objectives, whereas on the directives of President Asif Ali Zardari he gave a donation of Rs130 million to be paid as a ransom to Somali pirates who captured the MV Albedo’s crew.
The petition said that serious cash flow problems have forced DHA Islamabad, to seek a two-year moratorium on repayment of over Rs10 billion loans taken from a consortium of commercial banks.
The authority landed in financial problems because of mismanagement after it had made heavy payments to third party contractors for acquisition of land, the petition said, adding the documentary evidence indicated that a formal request for a moratorium had been sent to the banking consortium.
The petition said that Bahria Town in connivance with the DHA allegedly grabbed a chunk of land of Dadhocha Dam and then sold it under the name of DHA Phase II extension. The same land was again sold under the name of DHA Valley and again as revised DHA Phase II Extension.
Dadhocha is the place where the Punjab government had asked the Small Dam Organisations in 2002 to conduct a study for the dam because the Rawal Dam being the only source of water for Rawalpindi had almost outlived its utility.

At the moment I think Malik riaz might be thinking all the consequences of his court appearance.

If he comes to court and presents evidences against the chief justices son, and if he is punished in that case, in pursuing that all the internal working of bahria town can come to light. After punishment to his son I think bad time will start for all the corrupt individuals of the country.

What if Malik riaz turns the tables and says to the court that there was no dealing between him and arsalan, family gate would close and a few anchors and their media house would be in trouble but still the cases against him would be in the courts.

Under all circumstances I feel bad times for the tycoon and good times for the country have begun, may Allah help us all in this.

Majors or Captains or even Generals getting jobs after retirement, we have seen likes of Major Gen (R) Abdul Qadir heading steel mills and many other examples are there, but can some quote an example of Ex-DG ISI working for a Real Estate Developing company, the company which to most is involved in many scams???

As far as the missing person issue is concerned I do not believe what dr shahid believes. Picking up people and keeping them under custody for prolonged periods without trial cannot be allowed under any circumstances and the issue has already caused a lot of damage to the country. No state can be allowed to use heavy handed policies similar to the terrorists, the people if they are militants need to be tried in courts and punished there. As far as missing person case of balochistan is concerned the chief justice raised the case with vigour this year after activity related the province started in the united states, and I believe that's the favour of the chief justice to the whole nation. The army also needs to understand that Their actions are deteriorating the situation of the province.

Arsalan denies links with Malik Riaz family | Saach TV

Islamabad: Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry’s son, Arsalan Iftikhar has denied any association with business tycoon Malik Riaz, Riaz’s daughter and son-in-law.

Arsalan submitted his five-page statement Saturday in the suo moto notice case of alleged Rs 300-400 million scam involving him and business tycoon Malik Riaz.

The statement said that Arsalan had never met with the aforementioned individuals in any business-related capacity.

It moreover said that statements attributed to Riaz were contradictory.

In his statement, Arsalan moreover said that for his contradictory statements and for attempting to bring the institution of judiciary into disrepute, legal action should be taken against Riaz and that he should be punished accordingly.

It further said that statements given by television anchors were mainly based on hearsay and that until Riaz himself recorded a statement in court, no allegations would hold meaning.

He requested the court to reject the anchor persons’ statements on the issue and said the statements were based on memory and therefore held no legal significance.

He further said that he had travelled to London in the years 2009, 2010 and 2011 using his own finances.
