It was named after a great swimmer, and that is historic and we rawalpindians like to keep it that way.

LB, a Ghakkar ruler named Jhanda Khan actually changed the name of the city from Pindi to Rawalpindi; Rawal coming from the Rawal village located inside it. It was actually after that the Sikhs took over, and thats when the city flourished with trade routes and merchants coming in. The village Rawal was named after an amazing swimmer, who was considered one of best.

I don't like the name of our capital either "Izlem bad", New-Pindi or New-Rawalpindi would have been smarter... Unless Rawal was an Angrez, I once heard this but don't know how true it is.

Whatever but the name of Faisalabad needs to be changed, I don't know why some Pakistanis are obsessed with Arabs.
