What do you guys think?
I think he is like Soieb Mohammed, who can stick on the wicket for 2 days and score only 50 runs. He could be a useful tool for test matches but for ODI, he is a big NO.
And also, I think he is getting chances in ODI just because of his Uncle Miandad, otherwise everyone is feels that he is not for ODI.
I agree the guy is not performing very well, but then it is the same case with Taufeeq Umar and previously with Afridi. The point being that just because Javed is his uncle we are very quick to point fingers. Who is forcing the inclusion fo Taufeeq Umar and who was keeping the ever failing Afridi in then? Any ideas?

Well first of all he is not getting chances just because of his uncle. He is one of the most consistent performers in domestic arena. Yes he hasnt performed upto his potential Yet in this form of cricket the way he should have.
Secondly he is a oneday material, takes singles efficiently, has most shots in the book. The main thing he needs to learn is his shot selection coz thats what has let him down.
Thanx in large part to Australia, even test players can't be too lazy now. Scoring 350+ on the first day of a test match is fairly normal routine for Aussies now. So I don't know if having a slow batsman is a good idea in either form of the game now.

Yeah I think this idea of having a batsman who score slow to play him in Test and somone who scores faster play him in ODI is totaly wrong. I think the country or the cricket board of that country should look for talented players who can play in both form of cricket no mater if its ODI or TEST they need to perform, that is it no ifs, buts, elses or anything just freaking perform if you can't perform than kick that freakin black or white a$$ out of the team. :)
Well i do on parts..but i think its still to early to judge...let them play a while and then we should start assuming.
How about that?
But I really cant understand and non of you could answer it why Imran Nazir and Misbah are not in the squad.
Any IDEAS?

He is certainly not an ODI player and only in countries with idiotic selectors like Aamer Sohail, he'll play an ODI.
I don't why this is so hard to understand for him.. To be an opener, you HAVE to do the hitting within the first 15 overs other you shouldn't open!

Teaser Bhai,
Let's analyze your response...... :)
You are right that who ever is the best player (Talented) should fulfill his role in ODI. Obviously since we are in the building process and this may take months & Years but I assure you that we are going through this process because of our domestic cricket. Once we re-shape our domestic circuit we will be able to produce solid players who will not need special attention and can perform good in both domestic and ODI.
Those who are crying about that Imran Nazir is not in the team, Imran inclusion inthe team will not make a whole alot of difference. His shot selection maybe better then Tufeeq but is he a team player? Last I heard that he decided not to participate in the trails in Lahore, was it because of personal issue? or does he feel taht he is better then other players and he doesn't need to go through trials?
Coming back to Faisal Iqbal & Tufeeq Umer, even though I have written extensively about both players (I am not a cricket/sports analyst, just expressing my opinions), I dislike the selection of both players but I can understand that management/coaches may feel that these players can become core of the team in the future. I think Misbah could have replaced Faisal & Humanyo Farhat or Imran Farhat (or even kamran akmal) could have replaced Tufeeq Umer (Just because we are going through rebuilding process otherwise i would sticket with opening pair Saeed Anwar & Saleem Elahi or I migth try Sleem ELahi & Moin Khan).
I think the reason they are keep having Tufeeq play is because he is backup wickkeeper since Rashid Latif had an infection and Javid Maindad thought that Rashid may not be able to play the whole match against New Zealand.
As usual we're subjecting a new player to criticism before he's even had a chance to prove himself. I'd say we should keep giving him chances.
Oh and we definitely need someone who is NOT an aggresive opener. We played with the anwar/afridi combo and we all know how succesful that was. I think hafeez/athar might be useful as openers.
(btw someone mentioned openers should be aggresive.. iqbal comes at #3 and not as an opener) Personally i think having a defensive player at #3 is a good move. Dravid played at #3 for a while and i think he did very well in stopping middle order collapses.
though i do agree that misbah is much better than faisal.
i also feel that faidsal iqbal is a very defensive batsmen who suits the test game a lot more than the O.d.i’s. He definitely needs to change his batting style and approach to the odi game in order to suceed.
Even now days in test cricket, aggressiveness is the key, All of the Aussies were aggressive against Windies.
Its not about how fast you score but how much you score.

juiper I agree with that our team is in the process of re-building and it will take time to pick the right talanted players. But I failed to understand our selectors how many chances they are willing to give to a player and what are the criteria for them to realise the right person for the right spot (opner, 2 down, 3rd down and so on). I can't understand why the heck they are still sticking with Taufeeq? This guy has been given so many chances and why they can't try some one else as an opner. I am saying why they can't TRY atleast in 1 or 2 matches a different opening pair.
