Factory owner killed by mob on false blasphemy charges...

Najeeb Zafar owner of Eastern Leather Muridke was killed by a mob on false blasphemy charges by angry mob yesterday in his factory. Eastern Leather is one of 2/3 top leather exporters of Pakistan and is known for their products globally. Eastern Leather is also known for their environmental compliances for which company has made a lot of capital expenditure and efforts.

Najeeb was a hard working Pakistani industralist striving hard to maintain his leather exports. He was a five time Nimazi and a very mild guy. He was known for his hard work and honesty. It may be noted that 2 years ago he spent nearly two months in the custody of kidnappers who kidnapped him when he was going to his factory and was released after paying a very high ransom.

Local mullah declared him wajibulkatl when he changed an old calendar for a new one. This mullah incited local population to kill Najeeb from his mosque’s loud speakers. It may be remembered a couple of months ago an angry mob attacked another industralist in Faisalabad when local mulla announced from mosque’s loud speakers that one of the prints being made in his factory had a design which if seen inverted resembles the word “Mohammed”…

Industralist fear for their lives from kidnappers and mullahs in Pakistan…and face problems like law and order, power shortages, etc. etc. With this kind of situation who is going to invest and work in Pakistan…

Factory owner, worker killed in Muridke ‘desecration’ riot

By our correspondents

MURIDKE/LAHORE: A factory owner and a labourer were killed and dozens of workers injured in a leather factory on the Muridke-Sheikhupura road near Kathiala village after a factory official allegedly incited labourers by accusing the owner of desecration of the Quranic verses.

The riots broke out at 3am, when the factory workers were incited by a factory official to demonstrate against the desecration allegedly committed by Mian Najeeb Zafar, owner of Eastern Leather Factory. As a result, the labourers blocked the Muridke-Sheikhupura road, damage the factory and are reported to have resorted to firing. The deceased were identified as Mian Najeeb Zafar and a labourer Muzammal. All the injured persons were shifted to the THQ Hospital, most of them stated to be in a precarious condition.

DPO Sheikhupura Rai Tahir and SHO Muridke Sadar police station reached the spot and calmed down the labourers and manage to reopen the road after three hours.

DPO Rai Tahir confirmed the death of two persons including the factory owner and a protester. The DPO claimed that a factory official, Qasim, had provoked the workers against the factory owner over the alleged desecration of the Holy Qura’an to further his personal interest.

He explained that the factory workers confirmed that the owner had only disposed of a calendar, which had no Quranic verses, to paste a new one published for the month of Ramazan. Rai said the accused man called the Imam of the factory mosque and made announcements about sacrilege of the Holy Qura’an which led to the clash and protests.

Asked about the arrest of the accused, Rai Tahir said the protestors had fled the area. However, raids were being conducted to arrest them. The DPO said the case would be registered only after consulting legal experts.

Kuttey key bachey

My blood boils to hear this, i hope these dogs are caught and executed soon.

totally agree with you.

these scums whoever they are must be caught, and given the most severe punishment law holds.

^^^^

I think these local mullahs who use mosque loud speakers like this should be publicly hanged !!!

Re: Factory owner killed by mob on false blasphemy charges...

now you're just painting everyone (every mullah/molvi/maulana) with the same brush. not a wise idea :)

it's simple, have a law, enforce the law, and expect others to follow the law. everything will be alright. when there is a law, one or another break it and get away with it, and that sets a trend for the rest. that has to change. No connections allowed once a person has been arrested, process him/her according to the law.

make example of one and everyone else will be telling tales. (and no, not Lal Masjid style).

a wider, more concrete effort is needed by the Govt to have religious bodies onboard when domestic laws are passed, and propogate them properly and educate people. Pakistani masses have a strong tie to the place of worship and their imaams, so if the imams are teaching the right things and proper way of life, everyone will go home with that. it's a tideous process, but it does bear fruits.

just to discriminately kill anyone with a beard because he was inviting people to masjid is like putting your hand in a hornet's nest and then pretending you didn't expect what's coming next.

Re: Factory owner killed by mob on false blasphemy charges...

To yazdi

^^ Totally agree, these local mosques should be under govt control, No one should allow to build any mosque anywhere, Govt should do it and they should appoint Imams in these mosques and pay them salary, these mosques can also be used a community/social centers , no more CHANDA muhims no more building the mosque on QABZA and/or Govt Land...

Yes not all Mullahs are the same but the who knows who is good or bad, these mullahs who called the industrialist Wajib-ul-Qatl might have lots of respect in the community, hence they are good guys.... this Mullahism getting out of hand, it need to structured right before the masses of Pakistani people go against it, the govt and the Ulema should play a role and centralize the system...

Does any mullah of any mosque have the right to incite people to attack and kill anyone like this...with or without any evidence against the on being accused...

With your wise ideas I think saner people will just run away from the country if these things are not dealt with iron hands...

Re: Factory owner killed by mob on false blasphemy charges...

@hanibal: yes, i agree with you on that. Masaajid and other religious institutions should be under Govt. supervision with state sponsored teachers/tutors who get a proper salary, and the institution's funds are regulated.

that is why i said there ought to be an example made out of those who take law into their own hand and hurt anything or anyone.

i don't claim to have wise ideas, but i'm afraid your "iron hand" if it refers the indiscriminate killing of both culprits and innocent in the hopes of displaying a showdown of State vs. Mullah (Lal Masjid style), will only reinforce the mindset the people have right now. there is a time for firmness and then there is a time for mild mannerism and education. Pakistan needs both. One extreme does not justify another extreme. both are just as bad.

I never said that the mosque should be attacked Lal masjid style...I just said mullah who incited people on loud speaker to kill factory owner should be charged with murder and should be hanged if found guilty!!!

Re: Factory owner killed by mob on false blasphemy charges...

my misunderstanding then. apologies :)

No hard feelings...

Sorry if I sounded a little harsh...I feel really down at the moment from the incident!

Believe me this kind of incidents are becoming a regular feature now...a couple of years ago Irfan Textile was gutted down when local madrassa students attacked the factory when the management fired a mullah looking guy on some disciplinary grounds...The owner of Kamal Textiles narrowly escaped an attack by an angry mob of mullahs a couple of months ago in Faisalabad because the print on one of the bed sheets if looked inverted resembled the word "Mohammad"...

Not to mention that all these jihadi mullahs regularly kidnapping industralist for ransom...and telling them that they are contributing to a noble cause!!!

Enough is really enough now...something must be seriously done before we are really thrown in to stone ages...by these scums who are using religion for all sort of criminal activities!!!

Who can work with this kind of fears in Pakistan????

Re: Factory owner killed by mob on false blasphemy charges...

examples can be made by exposure of their crime. the idea is to make it socially unnacceptable to commit such mob justice by highlighting these incidences over a period of time. bullets will not work, social engineering will

Until then let the industralists get killed or kidnapped ???

Re: Factory owner killed by mob on false blasphemy charges...

Mullahs give these rulings because there is a power vacuum that needs to be filled which the establishment cannot.

It is very sad to hear such incidents happen. IMHO the state should ban religious clergy's giving out messages through these annoying loud speakers. In the modern era there are so many other ways of giving news to those who need it via appropriate methods.

These criminal mullahs have become black mailers...minorities, industralists and society at large have become victim to their hostilities. They preach hate and intolerance amongst public at large and have large number of violent volunteers at their disposal to carry out their criminalities.

Suicide bombers, angry violent mullah mobs, kidnappers, abducters, general public property damagers are painting a very negative image of Pakistan. Government seems to be reluctant to act against these mullah style criminals. General law abiding citizens specially people from minority sects/religions, industralist, businessmen have become special target of these mullah type gangsters.

People should not sympathize with these gangsters at all, otherwise as a country we will pay a very heavy price!!!

Re: Factory owner killed by mob on false blasphemy charges...

These types of incidents used to happen in Sindh only in the 70's or 80's. Sadly now Punjab is qucikly taking up these things.

Mostly these belong to a particular sect. I do not want to name.

Re: Factory owner killed by mob on false blasphemy charges…

what i said here.

these incidents are common in karachi. i refere you to the murder of a christian only last year in a factory of karachi.

generally karachi is as backward as a place can get if you just judge by the news and then generalise like you are doing for punjab
