***I know this is a topic that been debated to no end…but still has not arrived to any conclusion…
Thread is as harsh as waxing for the sensitive skin of the face…so out of both evils…which is less damaging in long term???
I was always told that thread decrease the facial hair this is quite contrary to the truth…over the course of years I have NOT noticed any difference…I would imagine waxing can lessen hair…as it does on rest of the body…
Gina you are the expert of these sorrta things…any comments??
And all you beauties out there, please share your views and experiences…
how about neither :D i prefer bleaching :) cant really put myself thru the torture of getting the whole face waxed. Also, the fact that my skin is quite sensitive wouldnt help.
If you're looking for long-term hair reduction, the best option is laser hair removal. Yes it's more expensive, but it's more permanent and can do a great job for facial hair.
I wouldn't recommend bleaching, since it has Hydrogen Peroxide which accelerates hair growth.
Laser hair removal is a good option, but has several problems:
1. During treatment, you cannot remove hair from the roots so your only option is to shave or clip- a not so attractive option for your face:S
2. Laser hair removal often leads to changes in skin's pigmentation. Patients either suffer from hyper pigmentation(melasma) or Hypo pigemenation. These changes are typically uneven so you may end up with a blotchy face
3. Despite what the laser clinic might tell you, laser hair removal is NOT permanent. FDA has not approved it as a "Permanent' solution. It is however very close to permanent.
4. Some lasers work better than others depending on your skin type(I am using IPL for my treatments). Quality of the laser machine is also a huge factor in the effectiveness of a treatment.
I am currently undergoing laser treatment as i have severe ingrowth. I am aware that once my 2 year treatment is over, I will need to do follow up treatments as the results are not permanent. I thought i should share that information with everyone too as many clinics operate under the pretense that laser hair removal is permanent. Also
Threading is slightly better than waxing/sugaring... threading grasps the hair by it's root and doesn't damage the skin. Wax/sugaring on the other hand tends to tug on the skin.. and can make it lax over the years. For eyebrows stick to threading..for the sides of u're face, bleach!
It's a myth that bleach accelerates hair growth..it just strips the hair of pigment and that's about it.. it has no effect on the root or hair follicle. In either case always follow-up with a toner so u don't breakout.
you know, im in the same situation. Im sure many people have a little bit of facial hair. THe lady who did my engagment makeup threaded parts of my face-without my permission. And it hurt like hell. My clear face was not so clear after the threading. I broke out and looked HORRIBLE. so my experience with threading isnt so good. As for waxing, My aunt bought me one from pakistan and i use that its great. You heat it up in the microwave put it on and peel. Thats it. I dont break out, and its not as painful. The only bad thing is that my hair grows to fast. So in about a month i usually have to do it again. But even after the waxing i still sometimes bleach too since i dont wax my entire face, my face after waxing has different pigmentations so i just bleach afterwards.
I have been told by many people that bleaching doesnt cause any harm. So inshallah nothing bad will happen. I just dont wanna have ugly skin when im old. Mashallah se, its so nice right now i pray it stays this clear and soft all the time.

well i'm glad someone mentioned the downsides to laser.
but the face is certainly not a good area for laser treatment, especially for asian skin.
IPL is also not Laser (Laser's work between specific wavelengths, IPL is full spectrum), although clinics would like to have you believe it is. IPL is slow and it's effectiveness is debatable. The cynical view is that clinics chose to practice IPL as the equipment is much cheaper and requires less skill to operate but still lets them get away with calling it 'Laser' and charging way too much, while telling you that you're not seeing results yet because you need more treatments.
p.s. I'm no laser hater. I've had successful treatment on my underarms and am currently having my bikini line done.
In the past year or so, I feel as if the hair on my face has increased-esp around my chin and sides...i dont want to thread it or wax it as I dont want to be doing this for the rest of my life....I would like to bleach but everytime I use it my skin becomes really irritated and I start getting big blotchy spots on the face....I use Jolen....What am I supposed to do in this situation?
Tabu if it's dark/coarse hair then most likely it has to do with hormones..specifically u're thyroid function. Please have that tested.. laser for thick/coarse hair is effective.. bleach won't really bleach think hair.. but do lemme know if it's fine (downy) hair or thick/coarse hair.
its thin hair....not thick...i bleached 4 my wedding day...and that was such a pain and I beared it..but its causing too much blotchy skin if i try now..so am too scared 2!
If it's thin hair then laser won't be effective Tabu, try and switch to a milder bleach. Andrea, (for the face) is pretty mild.. when mixing u're bleach mix-in more cream than applicator (instructions usually ask u to mix in a 1:1 ratio.)
TabuB - it could be a hormonal disorder as Gina suggested but it’s known that a lot of women develop more hair (as a natural process) on these areas as they become older.
i would try bleach again also as Gina suggested. stay away from Jolean though. i noticed that you are in the UK, so try boots hair lightener, it’s really easy to mix (two creams 1:1 ratio) and i find that it’s quite mild. also a tip that i picked up in pakistan is to mix some instant milk powder in if you have sensitive skin.
if it’s really bothering you though, try electrolysis. it gives fantastic results but only if you go to a properly qualified electrologist. the registered ones can be found here: BAIE Directory
I used to bleach my upper lip, but last time when I removed the bleach the corned or my mouth were very dark - like brusing, even though I left the bleach on for the minimum amount of time required. It went down after an hour or so, but was a scary experience.
Stoppit the only issue is that electrolysis works well on stubborn/thick hair.. Tabu leave the bleach on for the same time..remove a little after 5 mins and check leave it on for longer if need be.
Jolen is pretty strong.. before bleaching always apply a face cream to u're face this way the bleach doesn't harm the skin (acts as a barrier) and only the hair gets bleached. A mild cream like baby johnsons.. nothing with too many chemicals.
Gina - not at all, the whole advantage of electrolysis is that it works with any kind of hair on any kind of skin. hence being the only method of 'permanent' hair removal that works for blonde haired people. in fact, it works better on finer hair with weaker roots. stubborn/thick hair would take many more treatments to kill the follicle completely.
skausur - i wouldn't say it's not good for asian skin then, just darker skin tones. i'm pretty sure there are GS members covering a whole spectrum of skin tones.
i dont know if this happened to anyone else but using bleach changed my skin color. it became darker and uneven. Its been 5 years since i last used it and my skin is better but still not like before. I have no issues with being darker but it looks odd cause its different from the rest of me heh reminds me of those people tht put on lighter shade foundation to look fairer.. in my case its the opposite.
