Fabric , what the heck are these ..

I am so confused…

So all these awesome Khaddar collections coming up , is khadder a warm fabric? washable? stiff? how would you describe it?

What about Corduroy suits , are they good material to wear in winter?

Re: Fabric , what the heck are these ..

Khaddar is warm but it makes you look huge :(

Re: Fabric , what the heck are these ..

Chiffon can one look bigger too. :/

Re: Fabric , what the heck are these ..

I've never really seen corduroy suits on anyone, mostly just the pants.
Tweed is warm and also looks nice as a suit. Give that a try?

Khaddar I believe is washable but gets very wrinkly so you would have to iron it out quite well after washing. Some people also find it itchy. But yes it's very warm.

Re: Fabric , what the heck are these ..

Cb khaddar is a warm on the stiffer side fabric, it has qualities and good quality khaddar like gul Ahmed and nishat is towards the softer side easily washable and ironed without creasing and doesn't crumple as easily as the ones available in local markets. Al Akram also has good winter fabric, not just khaddar and linen but other materials that are warm and I have forgotten their names. Personally I like the Ka-ran-di fabric of nishat since it's warm and soft.
Charizma has very warm marina, and other winter fabric clothes with shawls if you are looking for something super warm. You can also go for velvet as that is also warm.

Re: Fabric , what the heck are these ..

Another good winter fabric is thick cotton kar-andi fabric, especially the one that bareeze has. Pricey but really warm, their khaddar is good too.

Re: Fabric , what the heck are these ..

has anyone of you heard about Khaddar Silk from India?

Re: Fabric , what the heck are these ..

khaddar/khadi , at least in india, means hand-spun thread woven into fabric on hand looms, and is often promoted as village employment product. the threads are not as uniform or machine-made fabric even of the same source or cotton/wool/silk. the fabric is stiffer and has a more rustic look.

Re: Fabric , what the heck are these ..

Not heavy at all, it's cotton basically, very very comfy.

What about ironing, I dislike buying or wearing pure cotton due to ironing. Does cambric need heavy ironing or does it get wrinkled easily.
Sorry for so many questions I've never worn cambric

Re: Fabric , what the heck are these ..

erm , I bought cambric , its slightly thicker then voil but thinner then cotton .. if that makes sense and its a really soft cloth so I reckon it should do fine for ladies on the heavier side ..

Re: Fabric , what the heck are these ..

What does khaddar fabric looks like? I love fleece, cotton and chiffon fabric it keeps me warm during fall and winter season. I also like knit sweaters for fall and winter because it makes me feel cozy.

Re: Fabric , what the heck are these ..

khaddar is warm fabric its depends where u live like in khi it never too cold here. what is difference between cambric cotton and simple cotton?

Re: Fabric , what the heck are these ..

Do people living in the west really need thicker warmer fabrics for shalwar kameez during the winter though? Everywhere has central heating and I persinally get too hot in 'winter' fabrics.... I often wear lawn in winter too.

Re: Fabric , what the heck are these ..

I don't know any designer off the top of my head that uses tweed but it's just something popular that is good for winter.
It's not a popular in Pakistan as it is abroad for menswear simply because it doesn't get that cold over there, but I'm sure you can find it.

Try to hit up a shop with a wide selection of fabrics like Portia on Tariq Road. I don't know for sure if they carry it, but I remember they had walls and walls of fabrics to choose from. If you have a good tailor in mind, get it custom made. I know for sure though many fabric shops carry it.

Re: Fabric , what the heck are these ..

Cambric is a bit more denser than cotton and gives off a more "glossy, shiny" appearance when used for suits. Cotton is softer and a bit thinner in my opinion.

Re: Fabric , what the heck are these ..

If you're average or heavy built then dont wear khaddar. Prior to I had an idea what kind of fabric khaddar was, I bought one expensive suit for my khala who is quite heavy built. When my mom saw it, she almost fainted (I bet she visualized my aunt in it, teehee)... So then she got it exchanged for something else from the outlet of the same brand in our city. It's okay for thin / under weight girls to wear in winter.
