Eyebrows ~ ~

Ladies,

How old were you all when you actually started doing your eyebrows? I don’t mean like just “cleaning up” from the bottom and stuff… I’m talking about like getting them shaped and everything.

I first had my eyebrows threaded just a little bit like last year. My mom said if I got them shaped and stuff, I’d look like an auntie. LOL hahah.

Anyways, I don’t like very thin eyebrows. I think it looks fake and, well, scary. I started actually doing my eyebrows just recently. Before, they didn’t really have any shape - I just used to pluck and thread whenever I felt like it a little here and there. So I shaped them completely just a few days ago (all by myself  ). My mom freaked out. Any desi mother would . But she’s fine with it now. She keeps telling me that now that I’ve done it, I’m gonna have to keep doing it routinely otherwise it’ll look bad. :bummer:

Yea, okay. Back to the original question.

How old were you all when you first started doing your eyebrows?

Re: Eyebrows ~ ~

My eyebrows were shaped naturally...nope not bragging. I start cleaning them up when I was about ur age.

Re: Eyebrows ~ ~

I dont, I have nice arse brows naturally alhumdullilah  :mash:

Re: Eyebrows ~ ~

sigh Thanks for making me feel feminine, guys :bummer:

Re: Eyebrows ~ ~

I was 15. Best way is to keep them thick but still slightly shaped.
DO not make them thin and too much arched, yes it will make u look older.
I didn't make them completely shaped till I was 20.

Re: Eyebrows ~ ~

^ Yea yea mine aren’t that arched but I hardly ever keep a straight face, you knowhumsayin :phati:

Re: Eyebrows ~ ~

my eyebrows were always nicely shaped (as well as my mom and sisters..) but when i had my facial and stuff in pak for my wedding (i was 21), the lady made my eyebrows more neat..since then i've been doing my eyebrows....but honestly im not addicted to it..only when theres some big get together, then i get them threaded..otherwise why bother...thank god i dont have a una-brow...

Re: Eyebrows ~ ~

^ Yea same. And I usually don't do it unless there's some get-together or people are coming over. But now that I've done them, I'm thinking about actually doing it ever 3-4 weeks.

Re: Eyebrows ~ ~

for me its like every 2 months or something..lol..im lazy..he he..usually when i get them done, whenver i see some little hair growth, i would just pluck it at home...and actually, i never really like the jobs of those indian ladies taht do my eyebrows..they make them way close together and a little thick (i have small eyes, and keeping them thick makes them smaller)...so i alwasy go home and make them further apart and a bit thinner)....

Re: Eyebrows ~ ~

I used to do them myself, started when I was in grade 10. I completely messed them up obviously ... eventually regrew them by the time I was in college only to have them shaped (and destroyed again) at the desi salon.

Find a good salon and stick to it. Now, my eyebrows are decent. I keep them more on the thick side cause pencil thin eyebrows make me look weird, even though I had them for a while.

Re: Eyebrows ~ ~

yeah i hate these desi aunties...the only reason why i go to them is that they are cheap and close to my work....and everytime they ask me if its fine, and im like, yeah its fine....but inside im like no no..they should start from my nostril to my outer eyes ..lol...but for some reason i never tell them...i feel bad tellng them what to do, so i come hoem and fix it myself..im so pathetic...otherwise i'll tell my bhabhi to thread them...at least i could tell her how exactly i want them done....im pathetic and picky..lol.ah well, thats me....
mehnaz...where do u get them done?

Re: Eyebrows ~ ~

You need to find someone good. There is this salon by my house that I go to once a week to clean them up. I don’t touch the shape at all now. I will PM you the name/address. Don’t let the owner touch your eyebrows though … there are 3 people there who I will trust my eyebrows with … definitely not the owner though.

Even the owner at Pinky’s Beauty Salon by Sheridan College is crap. She destroyed my eyebrows once many years ago, made them two completely different shapes … and she owned the salon.

Re: Eyebrows ~ ~

Yea I’m in the 10 grade right now and I just started..

I do them myself. I got them done a little bit from a salon a while back and they turned out pretty nice. I think I’ll stick to doing them myself for now. My mom would tell me if they looked bad. :cb:

Re: Eyebrows ~ ~

i got my first brow wax when i was 17 for my post HS graduation party and the lady did an amazing job. my aunt dragged me to her and made sure she didnt make them thin but still gave them some shape.
afterwards i tried to maintain it now and then with threading but threading didnt really suit my skin...i got rashes and the darned ladies would make them too thin. so i stopped going to them and now just use a tweezer every few weeks for maintenance. Sometimes aunties tell me to "Shape" them thinner but i dont like the thin arched look on me. it looks too 'done'

Re: Eyebrows ~ ~

^ using tweezer is the best way. Threading is also non-suitable for my skin..

Re: Eyebrows ~ ~

Threading is easier to get the finer hairs. I used the tweezers first and then if there's any thinner hairs, I use threading.

Re: Eyebrows ~ ~

i used to have really thick bushy eyebrows that met in the middle. I got them threaded for the first time about 3 years ago. The lady made them look very weird kind of like the area had been shaved. About a week after i'd had them done someone told me that it not permissable to do so. So i don't do them anymore, although i do clean up the middle so it doesn't look like a monobrow. I don't know if just to me but they don't look so bushy anymore.

Re: Eyebrows ~ ~

ok hate me now

But as for plucking the eyebrows, it is forbidden and not permissible in Islam, according to the Hadith: ‘May Allah’s curse be inflicted upon women who pluck their eyebrows, and women hired to do this.’

According to a group of scholars, shaping one’s eyebrows is considered forbidden, and they cite the following statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): “Allah has cursed women who tattoo their bodies, wear false hair, those who pluck their eyebrows, and those who artificially widen gaps between their teeth.” They say that shaping the eyebrows or trimming them falls under the same rule.

In light of the above, according to these scholars, it is considered permissible to shape or trim one’s eyebrows if they are excessively long or thick for the purpose of appearing neat and tidy.

Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, who states:

“The word used in the Hadith is nams in Arabic, which means plucking the eyebrows. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) considered plucking as distorting the creation of Allah. This was the practice resorted to by prostitutes in the time of pre-Islamic jahiliyya (ignorance) and it is still used by women of loose morals.

However, scholars who have studied the issue in detail have concluded that if a person’s eyebrows are unusually thick or unwieldy, then he or she can straighten them out.
