Their former chairman recieved a $400,000,000 retirement package not to long ago.

Exxon Mobil Corp., the world’s largest oil company, reported Thursday the fifth highest quarterly profit for any public company in history, posting gains from higher oil prices that were likely to stoke the furor over outsized oil company earnings.
Despite the 7 percent gain in earnings to more than $8 billion in the first quarter, Exxon Mobil said its earnings came in below its record fourth-quarter because all three of its business _ exploration and production; refining; chemicals _ didn’t perform as well.
Re: Exxon Mobile 3 month profit: $8,400,000,000 (That's Billion)
Its Mobil, not Mobile.
From consumer's standpoint, its frustrating and maddening. But from a Corporate standpoint, you gotta give it to these guys. They are doing a fantastic job. Look at all the effort they have to go through to earn so much: buying all the politicians, hire the best lobbyists, making so many underhand deals to keep the red tape of the bureacracy working in their favor, not to mention the efficient way in which they must be running the actual business too. Phenomenal. This should be an HBS case study.

Heard of “price gouging”? What happened in aftermath of Katrina? I saw gas was selling for $8 for no apparent shortage in Atlanta, not Dallas, not Houston, not New Orleans… ATLANTA
Re: Exxon Mobile 3 month profit: $8,400,000,000 (That's Billion)
Oh the big bad oil. Hey UTD, how many people do they employ? Have you looked at the benefits they provide to their employees? They are in the market to make money and that is what they are doing...there is nothing wrong with it. You want the price of gas to go down than go ask your lefty liberals to allow drilling in Alaska and oh while we are at it...lets lower that Federal Tax from 63 cents /gallon to say 15 cents/gallon. How does that sound? No but you libs do not want to talk about the real issue ....Why would you..when you can blame the "big bad oil companies"....
Re: Exxon Mobile 3 month profit: $8,400,000,000 (That's Billion)
Lower the tax? Hell Kaleem I want the tax to be increased by a $1.00. Drilling in ANWR isn't going to make a lick of difference in gas prices, there is simply not enough oil up there and it wouldn't start flowing for another 10 years anyways, it's simply another reward for oil compaines something Republicans love to give.
You want to talk about the real issues, great. How about removing the billions of dollars in tax breaks and subsidies that the oil companies received in the Republican energy bill signed by Bush just 8 months ago? Yes I know that might hit directly at home where Sugar land is the benefit of such subsidies but do you really think the poor lonely oil companies need these donations by taxpayers? How about a real energy bill instead of the one signed by Bush that creates an aggressive program for R&D of alternative energy sources. We spend hundreds of billions on Bush's Iraq war why not a 'war' on the addiction of oil instead of lip service? Exxon’s chairman retired last year and received a $400 million retirement package, you don't think that the situation at hand is in need of reform?
