^ Disagree. Unregulated capitalism is as bad, if not worse, than communist dictatorship. Thats why all civilized western countries have anti-trust and anti-monopoly laws. You can't just allow capitalism to romp over regular people in search of profits.

PBH, I agree with you for the mosr part. The point I'm making by bringing up Exxon's chairman’s pay is that this country is far too dependent on these companies and real change needs to forged. It's laughable that the Republicans respond to the outrage of gas prices by offering up ANWR for drilling, what for? So oil companies can increase their profits? It's not going to lower gas prices and to try and slide that across the public that it would is outrageous. Even Bush said not so long ago that the U.S. addicted to oil, if that's the case then the solution isn't tapping into environmentally protect wildlife areas for oil but rather creating programs on mass scale that get the country of the addiction.
The addiction of oil should be deemed a national security issue and receive funds as such. The best preemptive strike this country can do is R&D in the energy sector this has not occurred and that's why Exxon is retiring off its members with $400,000,000 in compensation.
