So this isn’t something I was brought up with (don’t have a clue which I came from).. Can anyone here list the different castes from high to low with a quick explanation of how it all works eg. if your dad is from one and your mum is from another which do the kids technically belong to?
Also do most Pak ppl (‘back home’ as well abroad) still stick to the same castes when marrying nowadays or is it half and half or even less common?
**i believe that ALL Muslims are EQUAL and there is NO Caste System in Islam ... these are the prime source of discrimination in any society which has it.

"O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted." [ch-49: v-13]
these were the castes in the villages. I guess urban places have different structures i.e Sheikhs etc..I am not too familiar with the system...I try to distance myself as much as possible!!!
Punjabis are more into caste system I've noticed..
Some of them are
Rajputs
Pothoris
Butt
Choudaries
Jats
Maliks
Then there is a caste system that actually have something to do with religion more than just the background
Syed
Sheikhs
Mirza etc...
Islam doesn't teach this at all. This is all very common in South Asian Muslims because of Indian influence. All of this should be just for our knowledge, don't follow this.
ok, so I belong to a Syed family, and there are certain members of our khandaan who think this puts us "above" others, as we're considered direct decendents of the Prophet (PBUH), but in my opinion, that is totally ridiculous. It is totally against the teachings of Islam, and this is a social evil that needs to be eradicated from South Asian mentatlity/culture!!
as I have been born and raised here in the US, i'm not completely familiar with different Paki "castes", but I know that my sister married into a "Delhi-Wale" family and they have different sub-castes/ "biradari" I guess you could say such as "Punjabi Saudagaran" (which is what my bro-in-laws family belongs to)..
Others I've heard of are Chiniotis, which I'm not sure exactly what/who they are..can anyone explain this one to me?
And then there are Khojas as well, if I'm not mistaken....
That's all the limited knowledge I have on this subject :p

i heard about dehli sodagran and many of them live near bahadarbad, karachi.
It's been brought up but I just wanted all the different names of the castes..
I know it's not Islamic, am just curious..
My parents don't really believe in this...at all. We don't talk to anyone who discusses caste with us because in their eyes...its unnecessary and makes 0 difference.
I think there are Syeds, Sheikhs, Ansaris, Mirzas, Siddiquis, Qureshis, and many many many more. I can't remember more.
