I just found out that my NICOP is expired and i’m scheduled to visit Pak very shortly. How long you think it takes to renew the NICOP? A normal NICOP usually takes 8 weeks as per consulate website but will renewal take the same time?
Also since my trip is already scheduled, should I take a Pakistani visa instead?
Isn't there a way to give you some sort of a receipt/document or stamp to show that you have already applied for replacement allowing you to still travel as if a valid NICOP holder? Expired NICOP doesn't make you non-NICOP holder...

does it depend on how resourceful and/or how much 'ghoos' can you give...you canb have it in a day or two if you are close to PMLN or any of his goons. :)

i don't think so...this is the whole purpose of any government document to validate from time to time to make sure one still qualifies to to have that document.
circumstances can change which renders on ineligible to be given a particular document.

If that were true, Permanent Residents a.k.a. Green Card holders wouldn't be able to travel until receipt of new card. But USCIS will stamp your national passport with a Stamp showing that you have applied for renewal, and are authorized to re-enter the country, though it's usually valid for a certain period.

it's NOT the case in Canada. if our Permanent Resident Card [PR Card = US Green Card] has expired we can NOT re-enter Canada. however, if we provide proof of travel [a paid airline ticket] they will expedite and give us our PR Card within 10 working days or less.
we used to travel to the US with just Driver's license up until 2008, i believe. now, Canadian Citizens need a valid passport and PR Card holders need a visa to enter the US.
Actually thats a valid point. It can be way out. The only issue here can be if that’s acceptable to airport guyz over there cuz i heard they can easily twist things and give you hard time
Actually I know Pakistani consular general indirectly but i doubt if he can accelerate it so much so to get a 8 weeks job done in 1 week or so.
In two weeks and the card is already expired
Right now im thinking to get the visa which will be quicker but that takes a whole day and i wanted to avoid taking a day off from work rather save it for vacation
I may be wrong, but I think the reason for that transit time is that a big part of verification process happens in Islamabad. Whether documents are forwarded to Islamabad, and then returned with a new NICOP; not too sure.
yes, i agree. get the visa but it costs quite a bit now i suppose. a visitor visa for Pakistan costs us $75/person [regular processing]. urgent ones cost even more.
Take a day off work, and go get your visa + apply for NICOP on same day.
You can take a day off from work gladly when applying for American nationalities and passports, but all of a sudden "Can't afford a day off from work" to go apply for your documents because they're Pakistani documents ?? They should just let you on a international flight with expired docs?
Typical mindset and mentality. These people are the same ones who show up at the airports for flight and then get refused check-in because of expired docs. When I see these people get rejected, i always think its well-deserved.

Yes you are right, thats what they say for any processing
Just get the visa...best option at this point. Getting a NICOP is fastest when ur in Pakistan.
Agreed.. at this point that seems to be the option or I may apply for renewal at the same day

It costs $120 from here but they give in 7 days which is acceptable time.
wow bruv i hope you are kidding in the bold remarks. You sound like its a conspiracy against pakistani docs while US docs are taken days off for
Read my comments earlier and i said i dont wana take a day off cuz i want to save days for vacation. Where would I spend my vacation? Pakistan ofcourse.. DUH!!
I’d feel bad for people who get rejected anywhere in the world even though its their fault. We shouldnt rub it on.
I didn't read the full thread but get the visa.. You can drop off the passport at 9:00 at the consulate and pick it up around 2:00( our experienced in NY) we also went to DC to get visa and they stamped it within half an hour while we waited. ( having kids with us helped to speed up the process:D)
Nicop.. In their exact words "takes 7-8 months" yep no kidding.. We received our nicops in three months but only because we had a "contact" in Pakistan who helped to make it quick once it got there. I won't rely on getting a nicop if you are planning to go soon.. There is no such thing as urgent nicop.
