Exorcism in Christianity ?

Now that ‘Mod Christians’ have finally decided to disown vampires, I wonder what is the stance on exorcism :expressionless:

Is there exorcism present in Christianity, is it any good ? Do you believe in it ?

Re: Exorcism in Christianity ?

yes excorsism is present in Christianity...

but i dont have time to write more...sorry

Re: Exorcism in Christianity ?

Wonder who these Modern Christians might be…anyway, back to the topic:

Exorcism exist and is practiced by some Christians denominations. Some people busy in the field of exorcism are amateurs, some have wrong theological base, some completely wrong methods. Those that do know what they do is good.

Re: Exorcism in Christianity ?

Mod Christians are those who consider Jinns (Demons) as nothing more than a joke :frowning:

And discriminate against vampires, and witches.

Thankyou for recognising the existance of exorcism :flower1: This is a step in right direction. :k:

Re: Exorcism in Christianity ?

Step in right direction?

Vampires = myth/lore/legend/day-dreams for Christians. Witches, Demons, Exorcism, Angels all form part in Christianity. Jinns as defined by Islam does not form part of Christianity.

Re: Exorcism in Christianity ?

Jinns as defined by Islam does not form part of Christianity

Would you like to elaborate your statement ?

Re: Exorcism in Christianity ?

In Christianity we recognise that God created various creatures other than man (who it seemed to be His latest creation).

There also exist a hierarchy for these creatures. One large group is called Angels. One third of these rebelled under an Arch-Angel called Lucifer and are now known to be “demons”. Lucifer is also known as Satan.

Christianity does not recognise a group that has interaction with humankind the way Jinns have, i.e. childlike, living with us, having families, etc. We in general consider such beliefs to be part of old myths and superstition.

Demons can possess, torment and influence people to do wrong. Angels on the other hand do the will of God always.

Re: Exorcism in Christianity ?

Thankyou for this explaination :flower1:

I think there is hardly any difference in defination of demon and jinn, both in Christian and Islamic mythology.

Few basics about jinn/demons

  1. They are creatures with ‘different’ ( not essentially supperior ) set of capabilities than mankind.
  2. They are capable of doing good and bad deeds
  3. They will be asked about their action on the day of judgment

There are more detailed characteristics in our knowledge and books but that would useless for almost all of mankind, because they are not likely to get in touch with them. (only very few people experience close encounter with jinns/demons)

I suppose that has something to do with long history of exorcism which has brainwashed Christians to believe that demons are intrinsically evil. Which is I am afraid is not true.

In Islam, We believe there are both good and bad jinns/demon. They can, but they do not interact with humans at free will, mostly. They avoid interation with human, because they (good jinns) think that humans are more powerful and evil, they(humans) might harm jinns or possess them for evil purposes.

Re: Exorcism in Christianity ?

The view that Christians have on angels and demons are the same as the Jewish one. The change/variation comes in Islam’s view.

Let me try and understand how Islam see the “supernatural”:

  1. Jinns=demons
  2. Good and bad Jinns/demons
  3. Humans can “possess” Jinns?
  4. Is Satan also a Jinn?
  5. What is the other Arch-angels Michael and Gabriel?
  6. Jinns/demons can have children and families?
  7. What are angels in Islam?
  8. In the Bible some other creatures are also mentioned (i.e. Cerubim, etc.). Does Islam also mention other creatures other than Angels/humans/Jinns/demons?
  9. From your answer it does sound as if you are negative to the concept of “exorcism”, why?
  10. Does the Angels/Jinns/Demons etc. from Islam have bodies same as humans?
  11. Can Jinns/Demons interbreed with humans?
  12. What is the purpose Jinns/Demons were created for?

And if you worked through all that, here is some flowers! :flower1:

Re: Exorcism in Christianity ?

Humans are indeed more powerful than jinns. why humans have fear of jinns is natural for anything you do not come in contact with much but know some strange weird stories from the old people. jinns sure can be scary to look at especially cz humans are not used to looking at God's creation which is a mixture of a human's and an animal's body. somewhere in between. humans being humans definitely are blessed with better intellect compared with any animals or jinns. jinns are not humans. they can never compete with humans intellectually. they can change shapes cz God has made them like that. and bcz there are various types of jinns, maybe this is why christians have different belief about them. There are different types of jinns. many do not appear to humans. only trouble them. i think just like and as you said, "only very few people experience close encounter with jinns..", i think very few jinns like to appear to a human eye. not all do. very few jinns do at their own will. most do not.

sometimes, the fear on seeing a jinn is mutual. i mean jinn also get that fearjust as a human does. Thank God, i encountered a good jinn cz he did not try to harm us. he disappeared. he came back. maybe he posseses that land we have our house at (not the house) and cant leave. but he does not try to scare us anymore. i think he has accepted to live with the fact that it is our house.

Re: Exorcism in Christianity ?

I'd like to answer a few to the best of my knowledge:

  1. Humans can "possess" Jinns?

    • Yes
  2. Is Satan also a Jinn?

  3. Yes

  4. What is the other Arch-angels Michael and Gabriel?

  5. They are angels and do only what they are assigned.

  6. Jinns/demons can have children and families?

  7. jinns do. demons, I dont know. cz as we know there are different types of jinns, i believe those other 'types' are demons. so i dont know if they can have families. but jinns can.

  8. What are angels in Islam?

  9. The good creatures who do not cause harm and can do nothing on their own will.

  10. In the Bible some other creatures are also mentioned (i.e. Cerubim, etc.). Does Islam also mention other creatures other than Angels/humans/Jinns/demons?

  • Not all of us have read Bible in details precisely cz of doubts about the 'changes made in God's words' and also bcz many many muslims are not too strong in their belief. They just follow it cz they were born muslims but hate it cz of what has become of it now in practice. there is a great chance of them disowning Islam. so can you please tell us what "Cerubim, etc." are as per Bible?
  1. Does the Angels/Jinns/Demons etc. from Islam have bodies same as humans?
  • Similar shape but not same. and they can change shapes. appear and disappear. i have only heard that angels are very beautiful. jinns are scary to look at so they, if they have to, do not appear in their original form. but I believe there are different types of jinns. I think we can take it as there are many races in humans. maybe that will make sense.
  1. Can Jinns/Demons interbreed with humans?
  2. There was a thread about this. I highly doubt this can happen.

  3. What is the purpose Jinns/Demons were created for?

  4. God knows..... But what is it according to OT?

Re: Exorcism in Christianity ?

How does it happen? What do you understand about “possess”.

So Satan was not created an Angel originally?

Does Islam make difference in hierarchy of angels or are all angels equal?

I understood from Code_Red that Jinns are demons, or what is the relationship?

I don’t want to go into too much detail on what the Bible teach but rather have a better understanding of what Islam teach. I therefor repeat my question: what creatures other than angels/humans/jinns and demons according to Islam were created?

According to your answer I therefor conclude that Jinns do not have the same bodies as humans since we can’t change shape, etc. Humans may differ in race but it is only skin deep (hair, colour, etc.). Humans does not differ in form.

 According to the Bible there are no Jinns. According to the Bible/OT demons are fallen angels. The angels were created to serve God in various ways.

Re: Exorcism in Christianity ?

Jinns=demons

what are the demons are??

jinns: creatures who are created from fire have their societies and tribes, they eat drink breed and all other stuff humans do.
they also varies in their believes there are muslims, christians, jewish, nonbelievers and many others, just like humans,

Good and bad Jinns/demons

good are jinns bad are "shiateen"

Humans can "possess" Jinns?

jinns can control humans but not completely- u can not distinguish the possessed people from normal ones by looking

Is Satan also a Jinn?
if u mean the one who lured adam and eve : he is Eblees(one of the jinn)

What is the other Arch-angels Michael and Gabriel?
angels are created from light and obay the orders of their creature ALLAH
allah seaid: "لَا يَعْصُونَ اللَّهَ مَا أَمَرَهُمْ وَيَفْعَلُونَ مَا يُؤْمَرُونَِ"

"O you who believe! Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones, over which are (appointed) angels stern (and) severe, who disobey not, (from executing) the Commands they receive from Allah, but do that which they are commanded. "

Does the Angels/Jinns/Demons etc. from Islam have bodies same as humans?
what do u mean by bodies???
sensed bodies??......... if so :
their normal formsallah created them on is not sensed by humans.
Can Jinns/Demons interbreed with humans?

never heared such a thing

What is the purpose Jinns/Demons were created for?

aalah said"
"وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِِ"
"And I (Allah) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me(Alone). "

that's all for now

Re: Exorcism in Christianity ?

I would like to make it clear that the detail about demon/jinn is not part of Islamic beliefs. The only requirement is to believe that jinns/demon exist and they are creatures of Allah.

The details discussed in this thread are all secondary and not part of beliefs, just like exorcism is a reality, but every Christian is not required to know about it or learn it by any means.

.....
The questions are answered by TheNewWannaBe, they are precise according to my limited knowledge. I will add just a bit more

  1. What is the other Arch-angels Michael and Gabriel?

There are four arch-angels in Islam, including the two mentioned by you.

Jibrael - he acts as messenger between God and his prophets
Izrael - He part the soul away from the body at the time of death
Israfeel - he will initiate the procedings of dooms day
Mikael - The one who is holding the highest skies

( I hope i am not messing with names and primary functions)

  1. In the Bible some other creatures are also mentioned (i.e. Cerubim, etc.). Does Islam also mention other creatures other than Angels/humans/Jinns/demons?

I belive yes, But as most of us have very limited knowledge, we assume them to be Angels/jinn/ humans etc.

  1. From your answer it does sound as if you are negative to the concept of "exorcism", why?

Not really, exorcism can save life ... but most of the time it is not required. Both in Islam, Christianity, it is fake mostly. Actuall possession by jinn/demon is extremely rare, most of the time it is mental and phsychological illness. So people who perform this so called exorcism give bad name to jinns and people see demons =jinn= evil
If the angels were created to serve God in various ways, I presume that they have no will of their own [as the Muslims believe], am I correct in this presumption?

If so, how can the angels fall (rebel)?

Re: Exorcism in Christianity ?

I think Christianity and Islam differ on this issue. Angels, according to the Bible, have their own will.

Re: Exorcism in Christianity ?

can u bring the leading quote from the Bible to this assumbtion??

Re: Exorcism in Christianity ?

Oldman, islam does mention other creatures aside from Jinns , Humans and Angels.

Jinns are fireborn, humans clayborn and angels born of light. (i think)

One other creature as far as i know is a giant animal that will come before the day of judgement and place a mark on the forehead of all people (attesting to them being good or bad).

Other creatures may or may not be Gog and Magog (they may be humans..they may not be...i dont think there is a consensus on this amongst the scholars).

Still yet there may be other creatures im not aware off.

All this knowledge in this post is partially theoretical based on stuff i read long time ago. I may not be 100% or even 50% correct..though hopefully i am :)

Re: Exorcism in Christianity ?

The Old man, sorry I cant quote you cz of my oh so efficient net.....

........ I typed a lengthy post to this, it disppeared before posting. This is sickening. Maybe I'll manage to regain the concentration to type the whole damn thing again later on but for now, I just want to say, please tell us what is "Cerubim, etc." Thank you.

Re: Exorcism in Christianity ?

I only mentioned the Cherubim as example. I don’t want to get too deep into the whole subject of other creatures we read about in the Bible as it digress from the main topic. There exist difference of opinions among Christian scholars which creatures mentioned in the Bible are fact/real and which fictional/symbolic.

The Cherubim (singular Cherub) are mentioned right through the Bible. First mentioned in Genesis 3 and last mentioned Hebrew 9. A detailed description can be found in Ezekiel chapter 1. In general their function was the protection of the glory and presence of God.
