Exercise

How do people exercise for hours!!? I can barely do the cross trainer for 2.5 minutes before giving up :pullhair: I see people not only exercising for hours but loving it.

How much do you exercise?

PS : No, I am not obese:no: I am underweight.

Re: Exercise

I workout 6 days a week…soon to be 7…I’m a group fitness instructor teaching 2 strength training classes a week, 5 spin classes a week and 1 bootcamp class a week…I’ve started lifting weights again (no women do not get bulky naturally…just toned and more defined…that about getting “big” is a myth) and I’ve started running again…soon to sign up for my 3rd half marathon and a few 10k’s…
Exercise for me is life…it keeps me sane and feeling good…I like the feeling of torturing my body and breaking it all down so I can stay healthy…it also has a lot to do with family medical history…I want to do as much as I can to prevent a lot of the issues that my family members have…there is a little vanity there too, but it’s more if a side effect than actually being vain. So, I workout about 2 hours or more a day…depending on if I’m filling in a class for someone else…

Re: Exercise

Having completed a couple of half-marathons and one full marathon, I can tell you:

The first few minutes of every workout are always a bit difficult. But then your body gets used to it. Even when I was running the marathon the most difficult part were the first 4 kilometers and the last 4. In-between I was feeling really good.

So if you try not to give up after 2 1/2 minutes and keep pushing yourself to get over that difficult phase, your body will start adjusting to the exercise and you can go on for hours.

Re: Exercise

Basically to answer your first question, exercise is like an addiction. Once you get hooked up, you dont want to come out of gym. I have the same thing WHEN I start regular in gym. But the problem is, I’m by default, lazy. So I get off-tracked very easily. But when I’m actually into it, easily can do for hours.

And may be you are too weak since you are underweight. You need to pick the right diet to get some healthy fat. Dont go for cross-train, its intense. Focus on normal exercises that includes stretching, running, Cardio, spin etc. That should be enough

Re: Exercise

Since both of us are lazy, you’ll understand when I say cross trainer is easy. There’s no thinking which exercise to do or not do.. No jumping or twisting.. No counting… Nothing. It’s the easiest thing available.
And no, I can’t go on a diet. I’m irregular when it comes to meals. Eating is a chore in itself, let alone thinking of all the healthy things to eat. I have included a few easy things to my diet.. Like flaxseeds.. For omega3

Re: Exercise

I used to workout at gym about 10-12 years ago..

P.S: does hard working counts in ? which is physically more stressful and heavy?

Re: Exercise

If your hardwork is manual, then I guess it counts

Re: Exercise

yes it is…

what will you consider working for 21 hours once in a week and 12-13 daily without any holiday

Re: Exercise

Desk work or manual work?

Re: Exercise

manual and very tough/hard/heavy…

Re: Exercise

Then it’s exercise

Re: Exercise

okie dokie, thanks..

Re: Exercise

I’m too lazy to work out but I make sure that i have time for walking around the area for 3x a week.

Re: Exercise

Walking takes a lot of time. I’d rather do the cross trainer for a few minutes and be done with it.

Re: Exercise

Looking after yourself or not is not an option, it really is your duty to look after yourself and it is hard work. For a happy life you will need to make yourself a priority. New guidelines is 90 minutes activity per day. You can start with 15 to 20mins and work your way up. Many very very successful and horrendously busy people spend time to look after themselves. Islamically also the last Khutba mentions that your property and your body is sacred.

Re: Exercise

I look after myself by trying to eat healthier. No soft drinks or sherbets. No bottled juices except the sugar free kind once in a while. Been doing it for most of my adult life. But exercise! Not my cup of tea.
I think I’ll enroll in a gym for a month or so, just to get started. Will my body get worse if I exercised intensely for a month and then stopped all together? People say body gets worse if you start and then stop. I just need some toning.

Re: Exercise

God/nature has designed our bodies to require one hour, some say 90 minutes of physical activity a day. It really has to be a life long commitment. Merely eating healthy does not cut it. My doctor was saying that walking/running produces more endorphins than taking prozac. When i go to the gym it is swarming with skinny girls so it is not right to assume skinny girls don’t need exercise. You need strength and stamina for daily tasks anyways. Good for you for maintaining good weight and eating healthy.
