Daily Times Editor Najam Sethi was thrown into prison by Nawaz Sharif for some articles he wrote about 10 years ago. Nawaz wanted Sethi tried by a military tribunal, but the then General Pervez Musharraf saved Sethi and told Nawaz to go take a hike. That is why Najam Sethi and Salman Taseer etc are indebted to President Musharraf.

suhaib, dont kid yourself or give assurances, the point remains, even the Shujaat League couldnt get the governor of their choice, Musharraf's playmate Maqbool (boy was he an embarassment) after so many years has been shunned. I dont have a problem with the PPP getting their man in, be it Taseer or Khaseer, they have the people's mandate to do so, unlike an unpopular dictator who'd sell his soul for kursi.

Far be it for me to trash another Chartered Accountant, but ST does not bring any stellar public service record. He is an old PPP loyalist, so that probably got him this appointment. Good for him.

In any case, the post of Governor is largely ceremonial (he gets to live in a pretty nice house, by the way), so anyone thinking a lame duck Governor can put a check on any kind of loot khasoot by anyone needs to think again. The check on loot khasoot is independent media and independent judiciary. I have high hopes from the former and not much from the latter, though.

Faisal bhai he is the Taseer in KPMG-THK (founding partner of Taseer Hadi Khalid) right or is that some other Taseer? Any info on how/when he became a siysatdan and media mogul?
On a side note I hear his wife is Sikh and his son is marrying a British royal.

Maqbool the one being replace, was Musharraf's man in Punjab for all this time. He was also one of those kaura jahil ex-generals who spoke like Pervez Elahi. He was the one who apparently came up with the idea of having a paid rally in Islamabad on May 12th, 07. It must be painful for Mushlads to see him shunned off.

Mashallah. February 18 elections were the freeest and fairest elections in Pakistan history. Good to see Mr. Taseer played his part in these historic elections.

The Caretaker govt of which Mr Taseer was part of was accused of being an extension of the previous PML Q led government, and one that would rig the elections etc. It is good to see people finally recognising the fact that President Musharraf appointed a broad based and neutral govt, which delivered the most free and fair elections in our history.

Federal Information Minister Sherry Rehman, however, has denied reports that the PML-N leaders were not consulted for the appointment of the new governor. Talking to Geo News, Sherry said the PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif was consulted before the appointment.

I believe with the appointment of the new governor, PPP is trying to undermine PML N in Punjab and trying to strengthen its position. While Zardari talks of friendship with NS openly, he is at the same time trying to undermine him secretly.

Yes, same guy. He is the T in THK. I guess he liked politics and got involved with PPP a long time ago. He is not a practicing Chartered Accountant for a long time. He is quite wealthy and ambitious, so that explains his politics and media business.

Well is Nawaz Shatif trying to create another issue by opposing the appointment of S Taseer.

I guess this is the time that we should all reconcile and work for the betterment of the country. Everyone is trying their best to bring this country back to normalcy but Nawaz Sharif is burning in the fire of revenge which would not bring anything to Pakistan except might help him in creating more anarchy.
