A Musharraf loyalist, associated with the PPP and a Federal Minister in the previous Caretaker cabinet of PM Soomro. Seems to a joint choice of the powers that be, and one to keep the Sharif’s in check in Punjab.
Salmaan Taseer named as new Punjab Governor

LAHORE: Former Federal Minister Salmaan Taseer has been named as new Governor of Punjab. He is likely to be sworn-in as Governor on Saturday.

You got this news fast :) ... Well atleast he is educated (chartered accountant from Uk) , the biggest hope is that he would put a check on Sharif family's loot khasoot in Punjab.

Reza bhaijan. Why is the alleged illegal dictator still able to appoint people that are loyal to him? When will the new govt oust this alleged illegal dictator that has no power since he took his wardi off? The elctorate will not be happy.

Mr Taseer was the Federal Minister for Production and Industries in the Caretaker government that conducted the General Elections held on February 18. That Caretaker government was much maligned then by some in the PPP (publicly anyway), but now they have agreed to one of the ministers to be appointed as Governor.

TheRealDeal bhaijan. I agree. These Mush Wallahs don’t know anything. It won’ty be long before the EX CJ, with his full powers, is reinstated by the Great Zardari, and President Musharaf is ousted by Zardari and his good Friend Altaf Hussain. Won’t they?

No Aalsi bhai , i am suggesting that now a days Musharraf unkil has to take approval from Zardari unkil for many things…It’s the other way around.

Far be it for me to trash another Chartered Accountant, but ST does not bring any stellar public service record. He is an old PPP loyalist, so that probably got him this appointment. Good for him.
In any case, the post of Governor is largely ceremonial (he gets to live in a pretty nice house, by the way), so anyone thinking a lame duck Governor can put a check on any kind of loot khasoot by anyone needs to think again. The check on loot khasoot is independent media and independent judiciary. I have high hopes from the former and not much from the latter, though.

Mashallah. February 18 elections were the freeest and fairest elections in Pakistan history. Good to see Mr. Taseer played his part in these historic elections.

Yes Aalsi…and it shows Salman Taseer is not only approved by Musharraf but also Zardari…It also shows that Zardari has a very good connection going on with Musharraf, where he can get an approval of his own person, a person that also supports Musharraf…

LAHORE: PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday urged people to take to the streets for the restoration of the sacked judges. He told Geo News that he had only accepted the PCO judges under compulsion and would not do so in future. He said the PML-N had only joined the federal cabinet on assurance by PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari that the sacked judges would be restored on May 12. He said he would treat any conspiracy against Zardari’s government as a conspiracy against himself. According to some, Nawaz Shareef is the most popular leader in Pakistan. I am sure they will listen to his cries for anarchy in Pakistan.

Daily Times Editor Najam Sethi was thrown into prison by Nawaz Sharif for some articles he wrote about 10 years ago. Nawaz wanted Sethi tried by a military tribunal, but the then General Pervez Musharraf saved Sethi and told Nawaz to go take a hike. That is why Najam Sethi and Salman Taseer etc are indebted to President Musharraf.
