**Ex-boyfriend of Laura Ashley girl is charged with her murder

‘The former boyfriend of a teenager stabbed to death on an isolated towpath has been charged with her murder. Part-time Laura Ashley shop girl Asha Muneer, 18, was killed in a knife frenzied attack as she walked home from work along a riverside path in Reading, Berkshire, on Monday night.
Her ex-boyfriend, Gulamyr Akhter, of Reading, will appear at East Berkshire Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

Miss Muneer, a talented student taking A-levels in English, sociology and economics, was walking to meet friends at a branch of McDonald’s on the outskirts of Reading when she was killed in the brutal attack. She was stabbed several times in the head and neck in the attack, which took place at around 8.30pm on a dimly-lit footpath running alongside the river Kennet.

An inquest is expected to be opened and adjourned by the Berkshire Coroner next week. Miss Muneer’s family paid tribute to her on Wednesday.

In a statement, they said: ‘Our family have lost a loving, beautiful daughter and we are trying to come to terms with how she died and the void that it has left in our lives.’

Miss Muneer lived with her parents, four sisters and one brother in a three-bedroom house in Whitley, around a mile from where her body was found.

Tim Royle, headteacher of Highdown School, which Miss Muneer attended, said: 'The whole school community is deeply shocked by Asha Muneer’s tragic and untimely death and all our thoughts and deepest sympathy are for her family and friends at this terrible time.

‘Asha was a much-liked and very talented student who will be greatly missed by all her friends at Highdown and by the staff who knew her and taught her.’ The footpath where she was found passes under the A33 dual carriageway and is popular with fishermen, cyclists, joggers and dog walkers during daylight hours. Dog walkers spoke of their shock at the death, but said the stretch of footpath was considered dangerous to walk along at night.’

these things were being boasted about, no1 wants their daughter/sister/neice to b dating or slping around at the age of 19 n that too with a non muslim do they? its called respect, maybe it was an honour killing kind of thing

Her having a non-Muslim bf doesn't make it ok to kill her, would these morons kill a boy for having a non-muslim gf?? Of course not, they just normally turn a blind eye.. Honour and so-called respect are equally applicable to girls and boys, I bet no-one is talking about her boyfriends' morals, are they..

Oh, and before ppl bring Islam into it to try and justify it, the punishment for sex before marriage (for either partner) is obviously not to be killed, I am so sick of the backwards izzat cr*p that so many ppl follow. Makes me sick.

The girl has now departed so whatever she may have done is now between her and her maker.

I just wanted to add that for some evil reason when a girl from a desi/muslim family is slaughtered we hear of 'sources' saying it was an inside job etc etc etc. What's with the 'bigging up'? Killing someone and playing God isn't right, and is not okay. Even if this happend in a Muslim country a trial would take place to see if someone was even guility of something noone would simply be killed.

The police are not stupid, noone is simply going to have this pinned on them for being an ex. As for the issue of she dumped the paki and moved onto a none muslim, can I just say as a muslim the whole dating spectrum is either an area of black or grey-in other words it would not be acceptable for the GUY to date so why not talk about him too? Islam does not give the right to date to guys just because they are a bloke?

Also, in defence of the young woman, in my experience of working within 'communities' young people learn from others around them. If a family has an issue with something a younger member does the inspiration can often be found in their family circle. Note how I said often, not always.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a boy or girl, whether you’re dating a Muslim or a Non-Muslim it’s equally wrong…

…But regardless of what she did, she is dead now, Islam doesn’t allow us to speak ill of the dead…

None of us are perfect and we will all die one day so we should pray for the forgiveness for our sinful brethren/sisterin who have died for we too are sinful…

Sweetu, it's the parents fault for not giving their children a proper upbringing and instilling the right values in them...

They bring their kids up liberal and then expect them to go back home and marry a FOB.. For some of us our parents' happiness is above our own and we oblige but not all kids should be expected to if they weren't taught Islamic values like obedience to parents, chastity etc. as kids.

Honour killings are against Islam, it's the last thing Muslims need, our image is tarnished enough..

the chances of her familly paying her ex boyfriend to murder her are so miniscule that we can say this theory is not true. the murder was a crime of passion, as anyone who watches Waking The Dead will know. hired hit men kill in a different manner

This is Britain guys not Pakistan.

The British police are neither stupid nor corrupt.

Justice will prevail, this is not Pakistan or India where police will arrest an innocent person due to their incompetence or because they have been bribed.
