There is this series of 'azeem sey azeem" posts going on in the General section. I just thought they would fit better in the culture section. And how about everyone do a write up about their native city. We can try and get info on as many Pakistani cities as possible, gather it up, and market it in book form :)Ok the last sentence was a joke, but I think it would be a great source of well needed info for lots of people, because there are lots of guys/ gals in the US/UK etc, who claim nativity in some Pakistani city, but either have never visited, or havent visited for long, and hence dont know all there is to know about it. So some info from others who DO know about it will be great help to such expatriates.
akif
wonderful idea..
I unfortunately have never lived long enough in a city to consider myself a native of it.
There are always others who have experienced more of it. So I will sit back and learn :>
Fraudia, same's the case with me. I have spent considerable amounts of time in 4 different places, so i am hoping to do a write up on all 4. But by native, i meant, the city that u call home...home is where ur ancestors are from. where ur family home is..or where u go to relax etc. u know what i mean. A place which we will call home no matter where we move to :)
Hmmmm only 4 cities my friend?
and that is the difference.
I have never been to the city that my ancestors are from.
I go to relax in 2 different cities that I can call home. I have not lived in either of them in over 12 years.
and in the last 12 years I have lived in 5 cities :)
so...I have no city that I consider home..really.
The closest would be London UK, but then there are others who are currently there who are better prepared to write about it.
Personally, I wish I had a bond with a single city...which I dont...
One point that might or might not be of interest to people...i think readers would prefer to know what you yourself know about ur city based on what you have seen and experienced, not what you cut and paste from some website. I mean, who cares about the area of a city or its longtitude and latitude.
Haa
I feel so tanha tanha, you could have wrote “Everyone write a post about your native city or GaooN”
Btw great idea I’ll for sure read all the posts :)It would be zaberdast if you guys could attach some pic’s of your city when writing about ‘em, and plz write a lines or two about the culture too. :)
Well that will be difficult for me to say which is my native city, my mum is from Sailkot and my Dad was born in Jalandhar (India) migrated to Pakistan (Loyalpur, now Faisalabad) but then my Grand Dads` job forced him to move to Lahore.
I was born in Ras Tanoorah (none of u would know where it is), in Saudi Arabia. I have lived my life in three main continents, America, Europe and Asia. I have spend cosiderable time in a Saudi Cities, Ras Tanoorah and Dammam. Then moved to UK and then USA and then Lived in Lahore for few years now I am living in London for the last 8 years. My next destination is Amesterdam.
In Pakistan I say I am from Lahore, in UK its London so I am not sure what is my native city. I think it should be Lahore because my ethnic origin is Pakistan.

Najim...Sialkot here too. Both my mother and father are from there. And yes, have heard of Raas tanurah. Lived in Alkhobar. was born there. Dad worked in Aramco.
Saba....gaoons and pinds are more than welcome. Actually, i believe stories from pinds are much more interesting than those from cities.
Dear Najim and Akif,
I surely have heard of Raas Tanura and Al-Khobar, and Dammam, in fact of all of the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. I worked for a company that worked on Ag Development Projects in Kateef and Al-Ahsa cities of the Eastern Province. The reason I know about Raas Tanura is because it is the starting point of the Trans-Arabian Pipeline (TAPLINE) that goes from KSA to Jordan, and reaches Mediterranean via Syria. This is a very important lifeline for many Middle Eastern countries.
It will be nice to hear if you could describe a little about these cities. I am totally fascinated about that part of the world and one day I would like to go and see these places. I have read that Taroot (a city near Raas Tanura and Al-Jubail) is a protohistoric city and it is said that it is home to one of the most ancient civilizations of that region, matching that of Mesopotamia. Have you guys ever visited that town. Please write something about that.
To all those who say that they don’t consider any city in particular home. You are not alone. Many people are in the same boat. Just pick up one and call it home. Fraudia, man, do you have ants in your pants? That you can’t stay in one place?

pathwari, Whooya daddy? :)
Well my father was there from '54-'79. I didnt spend much time there, and was just a kid when we went back to Pakistan. However, all my bros and sis, who happen to be older than me, are alumni of the Pakistani community school. I heard Apa Ji is still alive and kicking :)Allah un ko salamat rakhey. And then there is Mrs. Rathore. I might be talking to myself, but do let me know if u know this school. Maybe we can find a common lead :)
NYA. Unfortunately I personally cant tell u much about khobar and the surroundings since i was just a kid while there. However, i remember one extended vacation that we once took, where we drove from saudi arabia to kuwait to bahrain to iraq and iran. It was lots of fun from what i remember from the photos that i see :)
Well I know Aapa ji very well, I attended the party for the marriage (not wedding actually, wedding was in Pakistan) of Mr. Malik Abbas and Mrs Rathore Abbas, Mr Abbas was the friend of my DAD. I studied in that school too. But before going to that school I was student of Aramco Academy in Ras Tanoorah and then Dhahran, I was the member of Aramco-brats but then I didn't bother to renew the membership. I remember Head Teacher was Mr. Masood in those days then I heard he got his retirement and went to live in Pakistan.
If anyone knows guys called, Nadeem Muiz-ul-din, Idreen Muiz-ul-din or Anwaar zia-ul-din from Hyderabad (Dakkan, India) please do let me know. I am trying to trace old friends.

I call many cities home each holds a special place in my heart ![]()
my beloved is Abbotabad where my gran lives now …
its heaven on earth with its lush greenery surrounded by high mountains …
the one peak that we can see from my gran’s garden has “Labek” written on its top …
its a small place no taxis no rakshaws and no buses in the city only buses are on the outskirt that just pass the main road onto other cities or towns
so basically ppl walk and who wouldnt want to walk and smell the greenery and see the mary queens blooming in the summer …
the night time view is breathtaking …from my gran’s roof you can see the paharain and since its night the homes have all their lights on and its like kinda looks like small lamps burning all over the paharis …
then there is Kissimmee, Orlando …aaaaaah my bachpan and my jawaani i have spent there …schools, malls, and who can forget Disney
http://www.pak.org/gupshup/biggrin.gif
we used to skip school to go to Disney and since we were all high schoolers five six of us used to get in with two passes ![]()
Kissimee is veeeeeery greeeeeeeen with its golf courses, swamps and ofcourse gators
http://www.pak.org/gupshup/biggrin.gif

my feelings are kinda mixed right now …at times i hate it and at times its beautiful ..
