Euro 2004 - Semi Finals.

PORTUGAL v DUTCH (30.06.04)](http://www.euro2004.com/Tournament/Matches/Round=1583/Match=1059192/index.html)

For one team, the semi-final heartbreak of UEFA EURO 2000™ will be repeated all over again. For the other, the pain of four years ago will be replaced by joy at making the final this time.

Epic matches
When Portugal and the Netherlands meet in Lisbon, they will inevitably remember what happened four years ago when France overcame the UEFA EURO 2004™ hosts and the Dutch fell to Italy. Both were epic matches, as indeed were their respective quarter-finals this time around which went to penalties.

Happy memories
But then both sides will have warm feeling towards the Estádio José Alvalade, the venue where each team’s quarter-final place was sealed. It was the location where Portugal beat Spain 1-0 to clinch Group A having stared elimination in the face, and three days later the Czech Republic overcame Germany 2-1 to ensure that the Netherlands’ 3-0 win against Latvia in Braga took them through.

First meetings
What is for definite is that this is the biggest ever meeting between the sides. Surprisingly, they did not play until 1990, when they met in a EURO '92 qualified, won 1-0 by Portugal in Porto. Crucially, though, the Dutch won the return the following year in Rotterdam and a month later claimed qualification.

Portugal’s revenge
That, though, is the only Netherlands victory against Portugal in eight attempts. In their other two competitive fixtures in 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifying, Portugal won 2-0 in Rotterdam and drew 2-2 in Porto, progressing to Korea/Japan as the Dutch were eliminated. They last met in April 2003, the friendly ending 1-1 in Eindhoven as Patrick Kluivert scored his joint-record 37th international goal before Simão Sabrosa equalised.

**GREECE 19:45 CZECH REPUBLIC **
Thursday, 01 July 2004

In the second semi-final at the Dragão stadium, Porto, Greece will play the Czech Republic or Denmark. As in all the knockout games, the match goes into silver goal extra-time if level after 90 minutes, and to a penalty competition if no winner emerges.

Holland all the way :k:

I predict Czech, even though Holland will be a very strong contender.

^ Holland-Czech final would be just :yummy:

Holland 3 - 2 Czech Repl.

:snooty:

Portugal goes through, along with the Czech Republic. Should be a great final!

Euro Final: Czech Rep 3 - Holland 1

 :k: :rotato: :hehe: :biggthumb

i tip the team of the tournament so far [CZECH REPUBLIC] to go all the way towards european glory.

final will be PORTUGAL VS CZECH REPUBLIC

and CZECH REPUBLIC will win :k:

Czech Republic vs. Holland 4-2

Winner: Czech Republic

The head says Holland but the heart says Portugal. I can’t wait for tonight’s match and after being astounded by the sexy footy played by the Portuguese against England I’m rooting for them all the way.

Come on amigos, sink the Dutch fleet tonight and bring light and joy to the world! :sunny:

Vive la Portugal!

Ok could someone tell me what caused this animosity between nistelrooy and kluivert. Is it because they both play the same position??

Portugal (unlike England) is still interested in playing offense, even though they scored. They're a complete team, they deserve to go through.

First half:

Portugal 1-0 Netherlands..

It was a portgual show in the first half no doubt. Figo is playing better than he has whole season. Pauleta has missed two three clear chances. Holland has one goal disallowed with a slender of offside decisions. But exciting end to end football. Lets see if Holland can come up with something in second half.

Portugal should have had this sewn up by now, a powerful first half which saw the Dutch on the ropes and struggling to contain them. Portugal have been transformed by a few very good players with some hunger to go with the flair. I like Deco very much, Ronaldo we all know about but this is a different team from the one which flopped at the world cup. All the idiots are gone which helps, naturally.

Figo has come to play tonight. He has an edge about him and that has resulted in the whole team playing with an attitude. They are really dominating this game though Holland won't go quietly but go they shall.

Dutch are getting embarrassed, one gets the feeling the Portuguese aren't done yet...2-0

Technically portugal has scored 3 goals

Who needs Kluivert when you have Andrade?! Why take off Ronaldo?
