*"Giovanni Trapattoni's Italy will regard themselves as firm favourites to win this group and move towards their ultimate aim of wiping away the bitter memories of the Euro 2000 final defeat to France on the golden goal.
Trapatonni remains one of the world's shrewdest coaches, and despite struggling in their qualifying group, they can never be discounted and Christian Vieri remains a force.
The other qualifying place is likely to develop into a Scandinavian battle between Sweden and Denmark
Bulgaria look the weakest of the four teams, but there is little to choose between the other two.
Denmark showed their promise when they beat England at Old Trafford and AC Milan's Jon Dahl Tomasson is a goalscorer on the highest stage.
Morten Olsen is a clever operator at international level and the Danes know their way around this tournament.
Sweden, once again with the experienced managerial duo of Tommy Soderberg and Lars Lagerback at the helm, will be as stubborn and efficient as ever.
And with Ajax's gifted Zlatan Ibrahimovic leading the attack, they are not without flair. "*
VERDICT: Italy and Sweden to clinch the top two places.
Interesting match going on between Italy and Denmark. Both teams are eager to win. Let’s see what happens
EDit- First half just ended and Denmark had most of the ball posession. Italy hasn’t shown much yet except for the last few minutes of the first half where they had two shots at the goal (good saves by the danish goalkeeper)
I reckon girls should watch this game, cute italians
first half done, still 0 - 0...denmark seems to be putting a lot of pressure on italy, and had bout 65% of the ball posession in the 1st half...both teams got a couple of good chances to score, but the goalies at both ends made some magnificent saves to keep it at 0 - 0
I was watching the Italy v. Denmark game while on the treadmill at the gym. :p I watched the whole first half of the match.
The Danes possessed the ball most of the time. However, I noticed they kept passing it to each other rather than trying to actually score. When they did try and score, their 'headers' totally sucked cause it would send the ball in the opposite direction from the goal. sigh
Italy nearly scored twice in the last minute of the first half. That was the most intense part of the match. Anyway, all they have going for them is their looks.
Italy takes a little time to find their groove in tourneys. Lets see what happens next. today they were just average. if u looked at th teams on paper u would think that Italy would destroy Denmark, but in reality both teams failed at playing their game, they did succeed at a boring display.
So looks like Totti is going to be suspended for maybe 3 matches!!! He spat at Poulsen (in the face) - TV replays show it clearly. Poulsen claims he did it 3 times!
Tomorrow the UEFA disciplinary committee meets and will hear out both players and issue verdict. That's the end of the tourney for Totti (unless Italy gets to the semis at least).
UEFA has charged Francesco Totti for gross unsporting conduct and banned the Italy forward for three games after he spat at Denmark midfield player Christian Poulsen during the sides’ goalless draw on Monday.
Unavailable
Totti will miss tomorrow’s game against Sweden in Porto and the Azzurri’s final Group C fixture against Bulgaria in Guimarães. Should Italy advance to the quarter-finals, he will also be unavailable for selection.
Act of assault
The 27-year-old Totti had until midnight last night to submit a statement to UEFA’s control and disciplinary body after being charged yesterday. According to UEFA’s disciplinary provisions, spitting can be construed as an act of assault.
