Etiquettes of pedestrian crossing

Im so annoyed with pedestrain crossings.
There is one at the end of my street with all those pretty white and black lines and the other one at the end of the next street and it doesnt help that there is a mosque right across it and a high school on the other side.

Every morning I have to wait atleast for 5 minutes waiting for children to cross the road while my kids sit in the car complaining and whining bout how they are getting late.

The high schoolers are so annoying esp the girls, they’ll walk slowly all matak matak kay being all chamak chaloos while I sit and wait 'em to cross the road.

So lately Ive started being a desi and crossing it while its half empty.

This morning a woman (im guessing a parent) went off at me for doing so :frowning:

Im guessing thats not the right way is it. You gotta wait till its all empty before you drive through it :frowning:

Re: Etiquettes of pedestrian crossing

The first thing it says on Ontario's Drivers Handbook.. Driving: A privilege, not a right.

Re: Etiquettes of pedestrian crossing

Walking should also be a privilege too :snooty:

Re: Etiquettes of pedestrian crossing

Jee, it is.. in Pakistan. Driving is a right there. :)

Re: Etiquettes of pedestrian crossing

change ur timings :smilestar:

either leave early or late but not on rush hrz.

Re: Etiquettes of pedestrian crossing

I sense your frustration ardi, downtown chicago its a pain taking a right turn because when u have to turn its green for pedestrians too..sometimes I just want to run over the clueless tourists walking at the speed they usually walk in dubuque iowa...

Re: Etiquettes of pedestrian crossing

Back in the days of PTV-2, they used to have that Green Parrot who used to teach the nation how t o cross the road:

  • PehlaY daayeN dekhaiN
  • Phir BaayeN dekhaiN
  • Phir daayeN dekhaiN
  • Abb saRak cross karaiN

baychaaraa - yeh bataanaa bhool jaataa thaa kaY traffic ko bhee dekhaiN.

Re: Etiquettes of pedestrian crossing

was there a parrot that also told ppl not to pee in public? like u see those gusy sitting by walls and trees..or was that only broadcast after 'khabroon'

Re: Etiquettes of pedestrian crossing

u need a journal.

p.s yea it gets annoying but think if ur kids were crossin the rd n someone else drive away same way as u did ... what will be ur rxn?

Re: Etiquettes of pedestrian crossing

tell me about it...

downtown is the worst part of town to take a right or left turn unless they have a turn light...

the pedestrians are suppose to stop walking once the don't walk sign comes on and if they're in the crosswalk to quickly clear it but u see ppl just running half a block away to get their foot in the crosswalk before the traffic light goes orange. So while you're sitting there waiting for them to clear the crosswalk, they just keep going and going... most don't even look at the pedestrian control, instead they're looking at the traffic light and stop only if they see it turn orange. The result is that with each green light only one car can legally turn and a couple other frustrated ppl turn on a red light without stopping. Traffic authorities are now coming to their senses and are installing both left and right turn signals at most intersections.

Re: Etiquettes of pedestrian crossing

I remember how the parrot was parodied by 50-50.

  • PehlaY daayeN dekhaiN
    • Phir BaayeN dekhaiN
    • Phir daayeN dekhaiN
    • Abb saRak paar karaiN aur gaaRi kay hub-cap nikaal lain

Re: Etiquettes of pedestrian crossing

I dont remember this green parrot

Re: Etiquettes of pedestrian crossing

Crossing the newly built fast roads in Karachi has virtually become a great threat to the lives of pedestrains. Everyday at least a person die here on road while crossing the road.

Re: Etiquettes of pedestrian crossing

think if you are a padestrian, then what you would like other drivers to do.

sometimes at an intersection, green traffic lights and white padestrian walkway lights turn on simultaneously, you simply have to bear with it.
you can't take your car through people esp kids, can you?

but i agree, as a driver, following traffic rules, you get frustrated with this as in Manhattan.
just have to be careful.

Re: Etiquettes of pedestrian crossing

I agree…but at the same time when u r late…there ae like a trillion other things that are making you more late:bummer:…I simply hate the morning rush and shifting like 20 mins helps a lot…which has only happened once …once to me:bummer:…
..which reminds me…i was stuck in between the walking masses in NewYork…and all the profanities I saw and thanks god didnt hear:cb:…keeps me away from driving in downtown newyork hopefully for centuries to come…and btw I was lost!=the mistake:rolleyes:…Lost for 4 hours:crying:

Re: Etiquettes of pedestrian crossing

u guys r lucky.. in montreal ur not allowed right turn on red light :(

Re: Etiquettes of pedestrian crossing

i actually slow down when i am crossing. I pretend to be in slow motion
when i am driving i put the car in neutral and rev the engine to "speed up" the pedestrains.

try it... its fun being an a$$hole

Re: Etiquettes of pedestrian crossing

I have a solution.

Use this next time ----> :gadha:
very environment friendly and gets his way easily.

Re: Etiquettes of pedestrian crossing

yeah that is the situation I am talking about, both teh cars and the pedestrians have a green and go light respectively. it becomes a mess.

Re: Etiquettes of pedestrian crossing

and there is also a thing called right of way…

and some common sense.. if the ped is dead slow.. u go with a hand gesture saying thanks for letting me go … or hey wait im gonna go first ..

if the ped is like WTF u drivers wanna kill me or what .. u just wait and let them pass.. giving you looks like.. why are you touching the white crossing mark on the road..

:hehe:
