U can get mini-mithai these days..mini moti choor laddo's, gulab jamun's and pateesa.
Re: Essentials to take to girl's mendhi
Oh yeah we did the toothpick thing -its great as it also tops people forcing whole laddoos into your mouth
Re: Essentials to take to girl’s mendhi
yea def. thinking of having cut up fruit and mithai on toothpicks…all the sugar in mithai dont wanna break out last min as i do if i eat too much sugar so am def. thinking of tht but even if u h ave toothpicks on all the edibles some one somewhere somehow finds a way to just feed it with theit bare hands and if tht happens i will just not open my mouth!!! :nono: im crazy sensititve about stuff like tht but will for sure make sure i have extra toothpicks just in case after personally sticking the picks in each mithai/fruit piece
also, **Bint **i think u can and should do the oil thing if u like the tradition and have all ur close grl friends/cousins/siblings pay close attention to all the ppl applying it…im just personally not a big fan of it since ive been to so many and its been a disaster and ppl especially older women just arent so careful when they apply oil so i wont be trusting them with it and just not have the oil rasam.
Re: Essentials to take to girl's mendhi
oh toothpicks is a better idea.. i've always seen spoons/forks. and seen ppl have a hard time even with that haha. even for the mehndi, i've seen applicators. so the guests dont have to dirty their hands. keep it cleannnn
Applicators sound cool Inta Habibi. So like regular mehndi cone?

Right. In my case people I have seen so far stayed in their limits. As I said just dab through your fingers & not a whole lot. A little. Even the women know its just a rasm. I'll get my sisters monitoring everyone :D
Will ask my mom's opinion on this matter as well. Mothers are the smart ones when it comes to these things.
Re: Essentials to take to girl's mendhi
^^ oh not actual cones.. but some typa stick you can scoop the mehndi to put on the dulhan for the rasams. aunties usually use their fingers, and some even missed the applicator and dug in their fingers in the mehndi hahah
Re: Essentials to take to girl's mendhi
I know I have a perfect thing in my mind now. Can't wait to see some faces already. Thanks Inta Habibi.

Re: Essentials to take to girl's mendhi
and what abt guy what do u give him on mehendi??
Re: Essentials to take to girl's mendhi
^ the guy gets an oil Maalish!! haha...i dont think the guy gets anything on mehndi but my mom and i were thinking of giving my fiance a nice mehndi day suit to wear (shalvar kamise) like his side will give me to wear on that day bt saving the rest of the gifts for the wedding day or whenever the gifts the grls side gives to the groom and his family.
Re: Essentials to take to girl's mendhi
we r planning to give all his giftso n mehendi as they will be giving my clothes n stuff on mehendi too but we duno wot we ahafto give alongwith the clothes n stuff :s
Re: Essentials to take to girl's mendhi
^ well how about u just give him all the clothes maybe some nice colognes shoes and on the wedding day where the grls side give s the guy watch th mom and sis gold or wutever u can do it tht way or wut we do in our family is give the guy all the clothes shoes and all a week before the wedding this way everyone from his side gets to see wut the grooms family got (not tht this should be a show and tell event) but i think if gifts are xchanged during events they arent paid too much attention bc everyone is so busy so instead of doing it on he same day make ur gifts stand out as ur inlaws gifs will stand out to u when they give them to u on ur mehndi...just a suggestion!! hope this helps
hahah oh i wanna knowww

Its hard to explain. If I find a picture of that little spatula looking thing I'll post it. Will experiment with it first & see how it looks. Thanks again for the wishes :)
Re: Essentials to take to girl's mendhi
Those plastic spatula things you get with ice-creams are good as mehndi applicators.
We'll be taking all the grooms wedding gifts to the mehndi, and they'll be bringing my stuff too.
We're giving him his Shaadi and Valima outfit, shoes, aftershave, all his toileteries etc and dried fruit and nuts.
Re: Essentials to take to girl's mendhi
hmmm i wanted to knwo abt the dried fruits and nutss ...mithai thingee larki walas also give em???
Re: Essentials to take to girl's mendhi
We are from the boy's family and need to know what to take to the girl's mendhi. We have the following:
Few thalis with mendhi, tealight and confetti A nice thali for oil, bride's mendhi and her chooriah. Also adding one cone of mendhi (do we need more?) A suit, shoes and handbag for her A red dupatta to put on her (sorry, not sure what it's called. Not v experienced with weddings!) We'll make garland of fresh flowers and 2 bracelets of flowers Trays of mithai, chocs and fresh fruit for when we feed her for rasms A basket of mithai for guests, bride's family A basket of fruit?
Is there anything else? Are there things in the list above that we shouldn't / don't need to take?
When we go in, my mum will put the dupatta on her and the rest of us will walk in with the thalis etc. Do we do a little dance first or do we go straight in to doing the rasms of putting oil on her and feeding her mithai etc and money etc. Thanks for any advice.

Clothes, bangles, flower jewellery and paranda and shoes
Mehndi, Oil, Paan, Glitter, Surma, Supari, Panjiri (it's done this way in our family)
Mithai, bangles to give away.
Those are very helpful lists. What else should be added? We are from the boy's side too and do not want to miss anything.
Also, what colour of flower jewellery should we take? I know it is mostly white with red, yellow or pink, so which one is more appropriate for a mayoun or mehndi.
Re: Essentials to take to girl's mendhi
^ Dry fruit/nuts for the goad barai (sp?) rasam.
I'd say yellow or pink flowers.
Re: Essentials to take to girl’s mendhi
At one of the mehndi’s I shot this year they had a tiny two pronged fork in the bite sized gulab jamun and that was really neat as it helped the bride and the guests.
*also saw the oil rasm and don’t agree with it. It’s not like the bride really puts uptan and mayun and all that over face and limbs so why ruin her clothes? The duppata is always wrecked and u cant blame people for dropping oil so there will always be oil stains…plus aunties and kids everyone touching ur hair with Oil!!! would drive me MAD. ![]()
Re: Essentials to take to girl's mendhi
use cham chams instead they are tiny and bite sized and come is lovely colours stick a toothpick in them and away u go :D
dont forget to bring a leaf thing for her hand so you can put the mehndi on it :D
Re: Essentials to take to girl’s mendhi
Ok, the oil rasam can be done in an informal ladies gathering where no one is wearing expensive clothes. What else?
I need some rasams. Have finalized these:
- Mithai, fresh fruit(bite sized) and M&Ms feeding. (one thing per person doing the rasam).
- Putting on garlands of fresh flowers and gajras
- Token of mehndi & Ubtan on the Pan leaf
- Sadqa money
What else should I add?
