Re: Enough with wedding threads!! Now who has bn Divorced

This is no laughing matter.

I know someone who got divorced recently. Total *itch fest if you ask me.

I can only imagine how worse it is when there are kids involved. My friend didn't have children. I guess I have to outline reasons to play up to the juicy gossip factor? Basically, she had problems with her mother in law - and her husband would be a lame duck when those issues came up. He also lied to her about his job status...i.e. that he had one when he didn't. He also lied about his degree status...ie. that he had one when he didn't. He didn't tell her any of this until after the rukhsati. She moved her job and career to a different city for him, gave up a pretty prestigious position too, only to wake up one morning and find him not getting ready to go to work.

There were many trivial arguments before this though. The entire wedding weekend was filled with petty arguments, like "Why do I have to wear this piece of crap of unpolished jewelry you call a family heirloom?" and "If I wear my own jewelry, his mother is just gonna tell everyone she bought it for me, even though she didn't, the cheap trash that she is".

Things like that.

Marriage lasted for less than 4 months.

What's worse is he took advantage of the divorce laws of the state, which allowed him to walk away with 50% of all she was worth, since he didn't have any income or equity. When pressed to get maulvi's involved and have Islamic law applied (which would have protected her wealth), this guy refused. What was worse, was his entire family was with him despite the fact they RUN Islamic schools and are a family filled with religious scholars.

Re: Enough with wedding threads!! Now who has bn Divorced

^ how can one expect anything fruitful to come out of something that began with a series of lies... this is really sad to hear.

Re: Enough with wedding threads!! Now who has bn Divorced

Wow---
an ANTI wedding Thread!! Cool!!!!

Re: Enough with wedding threads!! Now who has bn Divorced

That unfortunately does not mean the family will be noble and good. Some of the biggest hypocrites I've met have been people who are (or pretend to be) ultra religious.

One of my college buddies was hardcore Muslim, beard without the mustache, and those hitched up pants. He would always lecture me about not drinking, not smoking pot, etc.

Later it came to be known, that he had been dating a girl and he had already been married with his wife residing in Pakistan. After everyone found out about it, he left the school, never having the courage to show his face again.

Re: Enough with wedding threads!! Now who has bn Divorced

I wish all marriages were full of happiness, but in reality this is not the case.

In Western countries - nearly a third or more of the couples would go for a divorce within 5 years, some are nasty and some are mutually sorted out. As usual the children will suffer from this breakup.

In Pakistani & Indian culture divorce is frowned on, and even though the couple may be unhappy with each other - they just continue to live in this 'dikhava'.

I hear of so many cases in the Indian news(not sure about Pakistan) , where the brides are burnt or commit suicide. A divorce would have been much much better, yet our society is riddled with contradictions.

Re: Enough with wedding threads!! Now who has bn Divorced

Divorce was always allowed in islam.
Even women can initiate it.

Re: Enough with wedding threads!! Now who has bn Divorced

Are you talking about sati? I thought that didn't happen anymore.

Re: Enough with wedding threads!! Now who has bn Divorced

K_A: Yes divorce is not only allowed in Islam, it is so very easy - just say 'talak', 'talak' talak' three times - but the reality is very different.

In our kind of societies Talak is still frowned upon, also it is a bit one sided, since the process is simple for the man, but highly complicated for the women.

Also a man can remarry upto four times, without bothering to divorce anyone. Whereas, the woman has sever restrictions even to talk to another man.

So perhaps a muslim woman's prospective would reveal the true extent of these restrictions on their lives.(not mens such as K_A)
