English Language Accent complex

Re: English Language Accent complex

I don't see why we haven't gone all English yet. I just don't see the point of learning Urdu. Nothing of significance is in Urdu. Schools are not in Urdu, Jobs are not in Urdu, lifestyle isn't in Urdu.

Re: English Language Accent complex

Here's what I have realized

In Canada and USA people learn a foreign language as a subject or extra skill......

but in Pakistan its more of a social status type of thing.... Say that if i were the captain of Pakistani cricket team....then instead of speaking English like Inzimaam ul Haq , I would rather prefer to speak my own language Urdu........and let the translaters do the job for newspapers and media reporters.

its true but let me give yiu one example, in karachi the urdu dictionary board has a big sign that says urdu dictionary board both in urdu and english. Now I am a farangi yet even i know in urdu it should be somethign like idara-e-urdu lughat or isara e lughat e urdu.

I am not a stickler usually but the fact that it was the urdu dictionary board made it ironic.

anyway here are some old threads you may find interesting

it seems like you are going to the next phase in those discussions and looking at desis in the west..or east if we count australia :slight_smile:

Very interesting threads, I am still reading it!..good one

and Yes I agree Lughat is proper urdu word that means same as dictionary in English!

Bhai G...Jobs have no language...schools are non living creatures they dont have a tongue...

You can give them any tongue , any language u want.....

In German they have german

France they have french

China they have Chinese

Spain has Spanish as official language....

Even countries like Denmark, Norway, Sweden that are 2 hours away ( Airplane) then don't speak English...but we....are continent away ( thousands of mile) and take extreme pride in our english expertise.

Here's an example of what i said....Mr Queer 's perception is a practical demonstration of what i tried to discuss

That's because their economies work in their language, ours works in English. Any job or significance is in English. Ever seen a Calculus or Physics book in Urdu? I have seen a Biology book in Urdu, it was full of English words. Might as well learn English.

Re: English Language Accent complex

actually speaking english especially in a Uk or US accent is pretty prized in china, korea and japan. studied with students from these places, worked with them, and have been to these countries for work, so familiar with it. accent reduction classes are in vogue etc.

I am actually thinking of learnign chinese the way things are going :D

Re: English Language Accent complex

Result of not learning English

This is the Language of the future . Listen to it!

Re: English Language Accent complex

Lol.. :rotfl:

care to tell me … why their are so many english words in your own Bashan (speech) .. for example: :slight_smile:
record, topic, conclude, immigrant, background, complex, host, nation, superior, refuge, centuries, under, mix, English, polished, educated, language, Chinese

..And if you feel too bad about English accent, next time when you speak try to follow urdu-english accent instead of trying to speak in native accent.

Technically, there is no such language as ‘Chinese’… It’s mandarin, or cantonese… or any of the other small district dialects :snooty:

I can’t remember the question from the original post… :hmmm: but southern asians are coconuts :hehe: :wink:

Re: English Language Accent complex

check post no 18 and you will find the answer

lol… dude let it go: ..

Do you seriously believe all of these words are same in urdu too .. you are a laughing stock :hehe:

record, topic, conclude, immigrant, background, complex, host, nation, superior, refuge, centuries, under, mix, English, polished, educated, language, Chinese

O bhai u r not the first one who noticed it…i already said this in post no 18

Did you see? or do u need reading glasses?

I already said that Urdu has accquired a lot of words from English and many english words have become part of daily urdu conversation.

You acted as if you found something new and started shouting Eureka Eureka…lol O bhai take it easy…dont get over excited

Re: English Language Accent complex

i dont knw y but i feel ickified after reading alot of comments here :bummer:

must be hormones,eh? :vivo:

Dude no one is stopping you from using the real actual words, .. which you used in your bashan (speech)..well some example:

complex = Markab (مرکب)
background = Peechey, Pusht (پُشت)
nation = mulk, sultanaat (ملک)
mix = milna, milana (ملنا)
host = mehman, mezbaan, lashkar (میزبان)

...you have to leave this notion behind that you are only full-brain dude here. Get over it.

Urdu is created by the mix-up of other languages specially: Persian, Sunsikrat & other local language. The word urdu came from Turkish.

As far as mix-up of other words concerned with urdu, this is happeneing in every single language of the world after the Internet boom. If you are so concerned try to work on your skills then start giving a Bashan (lecture,speech) .. that what we are doing is right or wrong !

That's a generalization. I grew up in the middle East where i attended an American school. Hence.....I speak English with an American accent. But growing up,......every weekend........my mom would teach my brother and I how to read and write urdu. My mom got some urdu lesson books from the local Pakistani School and would use them to teach us.

We then moved to the USA. Since I attended an American school in the Middle East.....adjusting to life in the the US was not too hard. And as an adult...I have pride in the fact that not only am I proficient in English......I can also speak, write, and read Urdu as well.

Believe it or not....I have cousins in PAKISTAN who can't even do basic counting in Urdu. And their parents soooo proudly say that "hamaray bachon ko to urdu ki ginti aati hi nahin, woh English main counting kartay hain". They have this kind of attitude** while living in Pakistan**. And MY PARENTS.....living in the US....are so proud that I know basic urdu counting and can also do a bit of urdu time-telling as well. Ironic isn't it?

So........what do you have to say to that Bitter_Reality? You are making a generalization here about desis who were raised in the West. We may not realize it, but sometimes our complaints are a reflection of our subconscious insecurities.
