Interesting! remember it was against NZ when Mike Atherton was caught using mudd on the ball.

But i wonder if that player is not wearing a pant from his county. now i know they have all different kinds styles in pants in county cricket.

with as many as 89 overs left in the 5th. days play ENG romp home by 9 wickets and take the series with an unassailable lead of 2-0

Kiwis exposed their weakness against Fastbowling when it's well directed ....... Shoaib and Sami had them on their knees in NZ and Harmison and Hoggard did the trick for England

Bowlingwise the Kiwis were harmless !!!!!!!

England crush New Zealand to take series](Yahoo is part of the Yahoo family of brands.)

LONDON (Reuters) - England skittled New Zealand for 161 runs in their second innings before completing a nine-wicket triumph in the second test to seal the series.

Matthew Hoggard, with four wickets, and Steve Harmison, with three, ended the tourists’ resistance after an entertaining opening to the final day before England knocked off their target of 45 on an erratic Headingley pitch.

Marcus Trescothick (30 not out) pulled a four as England won in the run-up to lunch, securing an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Andrew Strauss was the only man to go, caught by Nathan Astle at slip for 10 off Daryl Tuffey.

The tourists had resumed on 102 for five, still 15 behind, and, with the bounce increasingly unpredictable, opted for all-out attack as their only chance of defence.

Within 45 minutes, however, it was all over.

Jacob Oram (36 not out) did his best to set a target with some explosive hitting but Hoggard made the early breakthrough when Scott Styris edged behind, Geraint Jones taking a diving one-handed catch.

The Yorkshire swing bowler then trapped danger man Chris Cairns lbw for 10.

Harmison joined in after a poor opening spell when Michael Papps, coming in at nine because of a broken finger, played a rising delivery into the hands of captain Michael Vaughan at silly mid-off.

Daniel Vettori was unable to bat after tearing his hamstring on Sunday. Chris Martin was the last man out, run out by Jones after Oram tried to steal a bye to keep the strike.

England have now won five of their last six tests after winning the first test at Lord’s and clinching the series in the West Indies 3-0.

The final test begins at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Thursday.

Well..I am not really a big fan of Nasser as a bastman because I think technically he is a very mediocre batsmen. But he is good fighter and usually delivers when needed.
But Bothan sure has big mouth and that was good reply.
[/QUOTE]

well yes - Nasser is not even come up in my book if you ask me all-time Top 10 batsmen...

however - he has been a great servant for English team - which is why i have liked him...

aha aha :dhimpak:

another test series win in England’s book - England has lost only one test series after world cup - this is definitely a good sign - however i’d have like to see how English batsmen would have react if they face Shane Bond…

all in all - it’s better - Flintoff, Strauss and Trescothick did what they suppose to do… Hoggard and Harmison are bowling good…

i don’t know if England’s able to sweep the New Zealand side…but at the moment i definitely like England’s chances…

This English team is good. In past they had serious problem with Battinbg lineup but this batting lineup is best English batting lineup in last 15-20 years. Look at it..Trescothik,Strauss,Butcher,Vaughan,Thorpe ,Flintoff and Jones.
With emergence of new bowlers like Hammirson they are gonna be a force again.
:k:

NZ has won the toss and elected to bat in the third and final test against England. Can they save a whitewash? I don't think so.

Vaughan eager to inflict whitewash](Yahoo is part of the Yahoo family of brands.)

NOTTINGHAM, England (AFP) - England captain Michael Vaughan has insisted that there would be no let-up from his side as they chased a 3-0 series clean-sweep against New Zealand in the third Test at Trent Bridge.

“We definitely want to win 3-0,” Vaughan said. "We had an opportunity to get a whitewash in the Caribbean (where England beat the West Indies 3-0 in a four-Test series) but we missed out in that last game.

“Over the last few years this has been a result pitch so it’s up to us to try to play good cricket over five days to make sure we win 3-0,” Vaughan also told reporters at Trent Bridge.

“It will be hard because the Kiwis are a good team and they won’t die down and give us the series 3-0. They’ll make it very tough but, as we’ve shown in the first two games, if we produce the same manner of performance and the same attitude we can definitely beat them here.”

England won the first Test at Lord’s by seven wickets and clinched the series in emphatic style at Yorkshire batsman Vaughan’s Headingley home ground on Monday with a crushing nine-wicket victory.

And Vaughan said that with his side in such form, they needed few pep talks from their captain. “I don’t think I have to stress too much to them. The focus is there. All players are working hard on their own game and collectively we’re playing as a team.”

Last year at Trent Bridge, Vaughan won a toss and batted first on a pitch that deteriorated sharply, England eventually defeating South Africa by 70 runs.

And having had a look at this year’s surface, Vaughan said: "It looks pretty dry. It will probably do a bit over the first hour and then no doubt over four of five days it will get a bit worse.

"But for three-and-a-half days it will be a good batting pitch. Generally here, if the clouds come, it’s like Leeds and it starts to swing about.

“It’s a fascinating place to play because you never sure what’s going to happen with the weather.”

England added James Anderson to the team that won at Headingley after the Lancashire swing bowler was forced to withdraw with a heel injury.

His injury, and that of Simon Jones’s, opened the way for Martin Saggers to play his first Test in England, the Kent seamer taking two for 91 in Leeds.

Vaughan, who said that left-arm spinner Ashley Giles was likely to play, said no decision had yet been taken on whether to opt for Anderson or Saggers.

“Jimmy is in the squad and is available for selection. We’ll have a meeting about it this afternoon,” said Vaughan.

"Martin Saggers came in at Headingley and did a good job. When the ball swings he’s a huge threat. It’s a headache we’re happy to have.

He added: “I haven’t really spoken to the selectors but I would have thought the spinner will play.”

But the star of England’s bowling attack has been Stephen Harmison, the Durham fast bowler taking 15 wickets in the series so far at a mean average of just over 22 apiece.

And Vaughan said that England might consider resting Harmison from matches in the upcoming triangular one-day series in a bid to preserve his fitness.

"Having people like Stephen Harmison in our team is a massive advantage… I think with the amount of cricket we play it (resting Harmison) is an option we might have to take during the one-day series.

“We’ll have to manage him the best we can to keep him fresh but also you’ve got to win games of cricket and Harmison is our number one match-winner at the moment.”

Fleming and Mark rose to the occassion… at least a draw will be fine. i don’t want England to lose this test match… :nono1:
