England to Malaya, by road!

Heres the story guys i’m in the first phase of my mega adventure from England through Europe via France, Italy, Slovenia, Slovakia, Romania, Black Sea.

Into Asia via Turkey, Iran, Uzbekistan,Turmenistan,Tajikistan,Pakistan stop in Pakistan for a few weeks then head to, China,Tibet, Butan, India,Burma, Thailand, Malaysia. Finally getting the flight back to the UK.

Now it’s taken 3 years for me to ammass the funds for this trip but i’ve always wanted to travel the world and this is my journey for the next three months LOL

I’ve got three and a half months booked off from work and i’ve taken a break from education. This will be the trip of a lifetime.

Already i have reached Turkey, i set out on friday morning last week. I am due to purchase a motorbike from here soon, i’m in Ankara btw.

There was even a spooky night spent sleeping in the Transilvanian forest but to be fair i was probably the ugliest thing there so vampires stayed well away.

Next stop Hamadan.

I’ll try keeping you folks posted, but this is the first internet cafe i’ve come across and conveniantly it’s in the hotel!

Oh and if your wondering what sites i’ll get to see, keep watching this space as i promise to tell you guys about it so long as i can get hold of a computer.

Re: England to Malaya, by road!

Wow what a LUCKY guy :O
That's always been my dream but it's hardly gonna come true since i got married recently.
I hope you are carrying a nice camera to keep us all updated with that adventure.

have a safe journey!!!!

Presently i have left the *Kuddasiyah *it was a schooner like vessel. My trip was uneventfull from the Turkish town of Batman. I crossed Nrothern Iran through Tibriz and made my way to the port of Lavandvil via the Lavandvil wildlife reserve.

I did not see any trouble in Iran but i took no chances and being a foreigner here i decided to keep a low profile and get out of the major urban areas.

I originally planned to trace the length of Iran, but unfortunately i have split off from my friends who were planing to go to Karachi, they are now going on to southern Irans city of Kerman-Sha and will get the train to the Bam. from there they will face the tough journey of the Gedrosian desert to Baluchistan and thence to Karachi, May Allah guide them and get them home safe.

I still plan my northern journey through the steppes. But instead of making my way to Turkmenistan by land which would have taken a long time, i had hitched a ride aboard the Kuddasiyah across the Caspian sea. the voyage took less than tree days and a storm blew our little vessel ahead of it at great speed to the Turkoman port of Hazar.

I took a bus from Hazar to Mollagara Dhzebel right on the edge of the great Turkoman Steppes. This is the last major town and thankfully it has this little internet cafe.

I spent an comfortable night among the poor people at a place near an old Sufi Shrine. I spent the morning praying and exercising becuase tommorow i will go to meet some Naiaman Turk warriors out on the steppes, they will take me to Uzbekistan and i will join them on a pilgramige to Bukhara and then leave for the road to Tajikistan.

I don't wish to delay my journey and its already noon here now i am going to the market to buy some supplies, i will need a good strong rope, some felt lined boots and furs. I've purchased a rifle yesterday and i will see if i can get some more ammunition i also need to find a blacksmith so that i can get some things fixed.

Tommorow i wake up at 5 in the morning and walk eastwards towards the sun and the Altai Namian camp where among the tribesmen i will be formerly greeted and i will try to purchase a horse from them, i dare say they will try to force me to take it but i being a stubborn mule will try and make them take my money, they are after all poor people and i am thier guest i will also help teach thier children along the journey.

So i'm off to bed now and tommorow Insha-allah i will be meeting a tribe with whom i will ride to Bukhara.

Ya Ali madaad!

Re: England to Malaya, by road!

^ Good :k: .

You are going through the best moments of life anyone can imagine. I wish i could be in your boots, but nevertheless enjoy. But do remember me when you see something marvelous & out from this world or fantasy land… !

I've made it to Kerpichli! This is a town three days ride across the steppes form Dzehbel.

I made double speed by the kind permission of the Naiman elders. Since i am now part of thier tribe i have ridden on ahead amongst 16 other young men as an advanced hunting party. This way i can travel faster than if i was to trundle along with the tribes fammilies and children. I was shocked at first by the sheer number of horses, goats and sheep and cattle these people own the horizon was full of horses!

I joined my fellow brothers and dispensed clothes and gifts to all the families and children especially books and cd's as well as some money. In return i was given some native Turkoman clothes and some fur blankets and cloaks, as well as a rather nice dagger. :D

In three days my legs feel as if they will drop off, most of the day i've been riding at a comfortable trot along the vast steppes. Even when i want to eat i simple stradle the horse side fashion and have a meal. We only stop twice a day for rests and i am eating a few bread and dried beef slices and thats all!

Tommorow i will ride and by nightfall my Naiman bondsmen and i will have reached the Ammu Darya nature reserve. This is the a vast space of wilderness beside the river Oxus, it should allow me to spend a day there before moving on across the frontier and into Uzbekistan.

I am still three days hard riding from Bukhara. But today me and four of the stronger lads including Baharam (he's known as my shadow and since i'm part of the Naiman tribe he is like my bodyguard ;) )Who is a massive tribesman who has a reputation, strode into this small town to visit the internet cafe and to buy soem more ammo.

We are all armed becuase out on the steppes clashes with bandits and occasional tribal disputes are common. Also these rifles are perfect hunting weapons and yesterday i saw a thirteen year old lad wearing leggeings and a little jacket take a rifle and shoot a crow on the wing! He said it was to prevent a bad omen.

The Naimans are a very old tribe and part of the Tukic/Mongol nation. They are predominantly Muslim though they hold onto a few superstitious beliefs and are also deeply spiritual. Every morning Mahmood the leader of our party scatters some bird seeds on the high ground and prays. I asked him about this ritual and apparently he told me that they believe that birds like doves can carry a mans prayers to Allah if a man wants his prayers answerd fast he can pray and feed some birds or children or place flowers on a sufi-shrine any of these methods will ensure that angels present will vouch for the man before Allah.

Unfortunatley though some would see my Naiman brothers as barbarians, i still believe they are among the best of people becuase so far they have acted with great courtesy and are truly very noble people. Sadly though on tuesday we were reminded that some people are not this simple becuase there were signs of a Tartar hunting party on the loose as well. (Tartars are not Muslim and some are said to partake in cannabalism) There were carcasses of dozens of sheep just lying out in the open. We knew it werent wolves becuase the sheep had been shot.

Apparently tribes kill each others livestock these days to starve one another into sumbmission. Direct conflict between the tribes would be needless to say very brutal since everybody has guns these days.

Anyway i have no desire to pursue the Tartars since i am merely passing through. My brothers too merely want to go to Bukhara. So on we ride. Farewell.

Re: England to Malaya, by road!
