Ok Girliez, CE need’s some Girly advice. Am getting engaged in a few weeks (officially tht is).
Im wearing an Anarkali (wasn’t looking to wear one, but I saw it an couldn’t resist). I have just ordered it today and hopefully if all goes well it should be ready for collection one day b4 the engagement:D (I knw I left it late:bummer:)
Ok so the colors are ivory-goldish with lil turquoise, I wish I had pictures but I don’t, so emm close ur eyes an imagine or something… It’s kinda simple the neck is like a coller which goes up, with a button at the top, but then has a whole below the button. Top is velvet with diamante’s going up to the coller, and bottom is plain with a few large flowers pattern…
ok so heres where im stuck:
~Hairstyle? Do I have my hair up or down
~Duppata? is the duppata meant to be on ur head on engagements:hmmm:
**~Make-up? **I think im gonna be doing the make-up myself, so should it be kept simple?
~Jewellery? Heavy or simple?
Im stuck ladies, bcoz a wedding has come after a long time in my family, so everything is all new again. So I need all advice…
This is so exciting...Mashallah! Hope you stay happy always, Ameen!
Okay, lets stay on topic...
Hair: in Anarkali I always imagined half-up and half-down do's but if you have a high collar, it might be too much. I would recommend a side part up do...you will need tons of bobby pins! lol
Dupatta: Yes, it should be on the head.
Makeup: Depends on the colors. It doesnt sound like your outfit has a lot of bold colors so maybe you should do smokey eyes with hints of turquoise? Keep the lips neutral or pinkish.
Jewelry: I didnt wear anything heavy on mine. I kept it very simple...light gold necklace, light earrings, simple teeka and chooriyan. But then again, I had only a couple of days to prepare for mine.
**Keep the things more simple... A lighter look on engagements would really look nice...
***~Hairstyle?* Depending on your duppata, your hair length... If the duppata isnt that heavy, which I'm sure wont be.. have the hair down... Or have lose curls (dpending on your hair type) or if you have pretty long hair, have a nice braid, taht would look traditional with anarkali... or i you have light fabric (like georgette see through) duppata, have a BIG jora**
~Duppata?Atleast I love duppata pinned up over your head
~Make-up? **Keep the makeup simple... Add golden highlighter below your eyebrow, add turqoise eye-shade.. keep the lips naturally glossed.**
~Jewellery? **SIMPLE SIMPLE SIMPLE! Dont wear too many rings (so taht the engagement rings would be highlighted) wear glass bangles... Light teeka... and light necklace (you cant wear big heavy with high neck)
Hairstyle: ** If our hair is longer than your shoulders, then I suggest you wear it down in loose waves. It just looks so feminine and romantic and graceful:) Use a ceramic curling iron and hairspray. Get your mom/sister/friend to curl yor hair with the iron.....cuz they can see/do the back of your hair better. And do the curling after you wear the dress.
Makeup: Keep it simple. You can do turquoise smokey. You can combine a darker and lighter shade of blue. A light blush. And go easy on the lips; like a light and natural pinkish/pinkish-brown/plum color. Plus, lighter/neutral lipstick colors make the lips appear fuller:)
Dupata: I say wear the dupatta on your head. I once attended an engagement party and it was hard to tell who the bride-to-be was because she wasn't wearing a dupatta on her head.....and the female guests were just as dressed up as the bride....so she didn't stand out as much. It's your special day, and anyone who comes to your engagement even a stranger gora should be able to look at the crowd and immediately recognize you as the bride-to- be! So keep that dupatta on, girl!
Jewelry: Keep it simple. Although the idea of simple varies from person to person. When my cousin got engaged she wore a simple teeka in her hair, simple pendant/simple long earrings and glass churiyan. And she had her head covered. It seems like a lot, but it looked very lovely and not overdone at all.
Thnx for the advice ladies, have found it all very helpful..:) someone mentioned hair braided, I have long hair, So what do u think of a poof with a long fish plait?
I dont think i've seen anyone wearing an Anarkali with the duppata on the head, will tht look right?
CE, congratulations!!! :)
i would do a sideswept part with n updo and nice dangly chandelier earrings with it. updos always look hot with a high neck/keyhole collar like you described. or you could do half up/half down but make sure to keep the hair away from the jawline and just cascading down your back. you dont want to interfere or mask the lines of the collar.
i think the outfit sounds really understated and elegant and anything more might take away from the look.
U know what makes it more weird for me, I still havent spoken to my fiance..
Im completely trusting my parents on this (and I can honestly say, reading ur posts, has helped me make this decision).
InshAllah after engagement we should get to know each other properly. Everyone keeps telling me “u don’t ever no somebody properly until u have lived with them” some people are telling me not to even bother speak to him, “keep it a mystery” they tell me. I dont know whats right..:hinna: for now its like im getting Married to “Mr Ajnabi”…
Thnx SGC.. sideswept parting don’t suit me much:bummer: thts why I was thinking about the poof, yes french braid sounds good. The focus of the outfit is around the neck area, so u have a point about the updo:hmmm:
