My engagement party is going to be held in a couple months and i’m looking for appropriate clothing. I would appreciate it if you could recommend any home-based businesses or stores which you think i should check out.
I’ve heard of a lady named Saira on Mississauga Rd, she’s quite busy and apparently very good. I’ve made an appointment for next Saturday, will let you know how it goes. If anyone has any experience working with her do share!
I’ve also been told to check out the following:
Paisley and Pearls - milton
Fariha Fashions
Nadia Lakdawala (need her # though)
Jamayz
If you know of any other stores, please let me know
Thank you!
Mara
jamayz has very beautiful clothing but I found her to be fairly overpriced. and she is also very snobby. If you go in and dont buy anything she shows her displeasure.
aghhhhhhhhhhh I just wrote a huge post with tons of numbers and places and it all went away :(
I'll come back tommorow and let you know hopefully!
lol sorry
i was at saira's to check out bridal....wedding is in june inshallah so im looking..i like her stuff..but she is also pricey....so you have to have that in mind...
i got my enagement outfit from her and also an eid dresss...inshallah wedding outfits from her as well...
If you want something made, there is a lady Fouzia, she said shes going to Pakistan in March and is willing to take your budget to make the dress you want. Her number is (905) 821 7478. I believe it's called Kashung Collection.
There is also Saba Apparel (905) 824 6720
I spoke to the lady os Sanam Boutique, her number is (647) 402 4100 - I didn't have a good experience with her but there is her contact number anyways
Shazia - (905) 542 2100
I haven't actually purchased any clothes from these ladies yet, but I plan to go check it out in this week or so. Hopefully you find something lovely!
Thank you guys so much! I really appreciate it!
So far i've contacted a few Karachi based businesses that i found on facebook: Visage and Azmeh couture
Haven't been to any businesses here. I'm trying to enjoy this process, but i have to admit it's definitely challenging sitting here in Canada trying to figure out what you want and not get ripped off! Even the most basic engagement outfit starts off at least 200...things are incredibly expensive!
@shoelover13 and bbb:
It's nice to hear that you had a positive experience with Saira :)
Generally speaking what is her price range for an average engagement outfit? How pricey are we talking? Is it outrageous or worth the work/design? Does she negotiate?
@hunted:
Thank you for sharing, please do let me know if you know of any other business :)
@madinahme:
Thank you so much! And thank you for re-posting, I know how frustrating it can be when you lose your data, i really appreciate it!
@komals:
Thank you for sharing, i will definitely check them out :)
hey Mara, I went through all this last summer for my bro's wedding so I'll share what I found:
1) Oriental costumes 905-569-1515 - LOVE their stuff! I bought all 3 of my outfits for the wedding from here and got lots of compliments. I thought their prices were better than Saira (who also has nice stuff). The older aunty is very sweet and more open to bargaining then her DIL whose store it is.
2) Abida Qureshi 905-472-0000 - gorgeous stuff and great prices (she is home based and I found her prices very reasonable, nice lady). Got many formal outfits from her as well. She lives in Markham so it was a bit of a drive... (not sure where you live though)
3) Saba Aparel - great stuff as well and lady is also very very nice. We actually got my bhabhi's valima outfit from there and a few suits for her bari as well. Do check her out!
Those are my fav 3. I did go to Saira - she does have a wide selection but both times when I went there were many other ppl there so it was a bit busy. I didn't actually buy anything from her as I found the other 3 options offered better value...
I would NOT recommened Jamayz for even a second. The lady is SO RUDE and snobby and her stuff is soo overpriced for what it is. I was trying on a suit on and was deciding on it with my mom and the lady said "if you are not sure if you will buy it can you take it off and then decide!!!!!" and it was a sample! (cuz they don't keep all ready to sell stuff it's mostly sample and then you order) I walked out after that.
I went to see Nadia Lakhanwala as well but she did not have much formal wear - more casual stuff and I found her selection limited.
I went to Oriental costumes for my engagement outfit - it wasn't very fancy but had a decent amount of kaam. I really loved it. They have nice stuff but are pricey. I think mine cost me around 300 and then an extra 60 to get it tailored from their tailor (she's pretty good!). They did have things for 200 something also.
I don't know if you're up for a bit of a hassle, but my friend went to a flea market in Scarbrough (I believe it's close to Abu Bakr masjid, if you know where that is). She bought really beautiful unstitched dresses from there and the kapra had a lot of kaam and amazning detail (something you can wear on an engagement or someone's wedding) and she got it sewn. I believe she got the dress for about $50 with some bargaining because it was a flea market. I assume you can get a simple dress sewn for $20'ish so you can maybe pay $40-50 for the sewing and have yourself a lovely outfit that would've cost you about $200-300 from a store.
I should take my own advice and do this, but I'm so lazy :P
Hi Everyone!
Thanks for sharing, I'll definitely check out the stores mentioned. :)
Madinahme, what's the name of the market in Scarborough? I totally can relate to the lazy part! But honestly, if you're able to save such a significant amount, why not eh?! If you end up checking it out, let me know how it goes. I live on the West end of the GTA so Scarborough is a bit far, but i will gladly head out that way if it's worth it!
P.S. Does anyone know of a good tailor in the area?
Thanks!
Check with Rukhsana- I believe she's newly back or coming back soon from Pakistan with her latest collection. I've always bought formals and semi-formals from her - she's priced around $300 upwards but her joras are very well made and she always has my size. She's in Richmond Hill.

There is a lady named Rubina Zaidi…I believe it’s called “Anna’s collection” She lives in Markham and just had a shipment in from Pakistan. The dresses start from $35 and up, but nothing above $100. She has some lehnga’s as well. If you have facebook, add her and have a look… Facebook
Kohinoor on Albion Rd just opened up another Bridal boutique which you can check out. And the owner is going back to Pakistan in February, in case you want something custom made. 416-742-5235
Has anyone been to Naz Fashion Bug? Milton is a bit a drive, so before I go I was wondering if anyone can comment on the quality of her fabrics and designs?
