What if the ‘man knocking on the door’, Imam Mahdi, turns out to be from a sect you don’t believe in? If I am not wrong there is one hadith that says Hazrat Imam AS will be from the family of Prophet PBUH (through Fatima RA). That would mean he will be very likely ‘ahle-bait’? Most sects believe each other to be ‘kaafir’, ‘khariji’… how would you ‘recognize’ him to be on the right?

Good point, isn’t the prediction that only the true hearted will recognize the mahdi. People will think Dajjal is actually the Messiah and they wont recognize the real one.
